Granted, we were at Falco between Christmas and New Years Eve, when the A Team in restaurants tends to be on vacation We have been to just about every highly-rated restaurant in Leipzig. Max Enk (good wines, but just OK food), Mifune (novice, if not incompetent, Teppanyaki), etc. Sadly, there aren't a great many fine dining choices in Leipzig. Leipzig appears to be a culinary wasteland. Or so I thought. C'est la vie showed creativity and flavor that will hold up anywhere. I use Yelp a lot, but I don't write a lot of reviews. This restaurant wasn't even in Yelp and it most positively deserves a review. The foie gras, one of my staple dishes, was inspired. The pheasant cooked in spiced milk was prefect. The amuse bouche deserves an honorable mention. The sommelier was knowledgeable and patient. The potato essence soup was plain divine. Never had anything like it and I have been to more Michelin stars and Top 50 restaurants than I can count. Minus points for the bread and the first wine, both of which were boring. The latter might be due to the fact that our group had a bottle of Champagne prior, but the sommelier needs to take prior beverage consumption into account when selecting wines. Bottom line: clear Michelin 1 Star performance and utterly incomprehensible that this restaurant wasn't even listed on Yelp. Fixed.

This huge restaurant seems to be an institution in Halle. Decorated with all sorts of memorabilia…read moreof past days, it is a real treat for the eye. Take some time wandering around and exploring pictures and objects of the old Halle dating back to horse and carriage times. The menu is traditional German cuisine, with a special seasonal menu for the likes of Christmas, 'Spargelzeit' etc. Most dishes can be had either as a regular or a small portion, with the small portion being big enough to feed the average adult. I had the horse goulash with red cabbage and potato dumplings, amazing! They do brew their own beer on the premises and have a good selection of German and other European wines. All this counts up to 4 stars, the fifth star is for service and price. The staff was lovely, welcoming and straight away offered an English menu. My main meal cost 9.90Euro which I still can't believe as it was amazing and so much food, I couldn't fit a desert in. And that was the small portion! If you ever find yourself in G.F.Handel's home town, try this place for a proper German dining experience with a bit of history on the side.

For starters we had the garlic bread and a portion of the oven-baked goats' cheese with apple and mango sauce. Both dishes didn't require any cooking skills at all but took a while to arrive. Our mains were okay. The monkfish sadly was overcooked and didn't really work with pasta and tomato sauce. The service was alright. We were served by 2 different waiters, the female waiter was attentive and friendly, her male co-worker....well, not so much. For the prices they charge, which are slightly above average, we did expect better service and better execution of the dishes. We probably wouldn't pick this place again.

Recognizing my German was bad he brought an English menu. I selected a starter and main Goat cheese- plating was nice and taste were excellent. Thick balsamic vinegar with a local type salad. Accompanied by a local fruit and liquor chutney. Is this in one bite with the brûlée goat cheese made an great taste. Veal schnitzel - no surprise here. Well cooked and crispy. Taste was great. Sides were asparagus local grow. White asparagus with a sauce. Very tasty. Also some home style potatoes. Everything taste perfect and well seasoned. Double expresso- in typical German fashion excellent strong expresso with as side of water.
