They obviously have books, of all genres, but they have so much more than books. They have board games/card games and they have toys too, including Celestial Buddies, which are plushies of planets, moons and all things, well... celestial, lol. I especially liked the Saturn plushie. They have "Every Child Matters" stuffed bears as well. They have really cool bookmarks (I especially liked the Spaghetti and Meatballs bookmark). They have earrings that are book covers! Perfect for the bibliophile in your life who also loves jewelry (and has their ears pierced). The bookstore is very open and not cluttered at all. They had some shelves still empty when I went the first week of November 2023, so I think they will be getting more merchandise. Prices are comparable to other regular bookstores. No bargain basement prices, but no huge markup for being in trendy Westboro, lol. Staff are friendly and pleasant. They leave you alone to browse, which I like, but seemed helpful with other customers who needed help (I did not need help, so did not interact too much with staff). Great place to pick up gifts. Though French is my second language, I have found the staff very friendly and patient with me and with my accented French. It does have many stacks of books, and vertical stacks are not a convenience in a bookstore. Some of the stacks reach almost to the ceiling, so if you want to flip through - or even buy - a book midway or (heaven forbid) at the bottom of a stack, you are pretty much out of luck. Nonetheless, this used bookstore has an excellent selection, and the prices are fantastic. It was our favorite bookstore in Ottawa.

Since I play the oboe, this is really the only place in the city where I can come to buy music. The same can be said for advanced harmony instruction books. The Leading Note also carries many scores and lots of music for choirs. I also especially like their section with more worldly piano music. As I have recently started teaching piano in French (my second language), the staff at the Leading Note were extremely helpful in telling me about French beginner method books and comparing them for me. If you are looking for a teacher, there is a bulletin board full of cards from teachers around the city. There is also a section on their website where you can find teachers. The staff are friendly and are all musicians themselves.

But smells ok. Even a partial inventory online would be nice. Complete with suggested retail price. But the owner seems computer-averse. It is indeed a treasure trove, but buried treasure, moldering away in piles of trash. Everything there, except Harlequin romances. Putting the priced inventory online would possibly wipe out half the stock in a month. And would still leave the problem of finding the listed book in a random pile. The main issue for me is price. Some oddball oxidized third rate Sci Fi paperback is listed at $5. An old water-stained and crumpled 5 kg surgery textbook is $50, and took some ironing to make it readable. Service? Owner seems to know where everything is, and people seem to like the hunt. As for me, there was little parking space, and I got a $70 ticket. Read the signs! Patrols are frequent. In parting: come with an agenda, but browse. Be prepared to respectfully haggle. Dress down (easy for me) and mess up your hair. Dont rub the belly of the cat: he bites at that. He followed me out of the building onto the sidewalk. Let me know if he came back. Nearby Goat cafe is very natural and nice. Quiet, funky and calm. Dont miss it.
