Champion Windows & Home Exteriors of Colorado Springs - Test results + for black mold

Champion Windows & Home Exteriors of Colorado Springs

(42 reviews)

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly…read more The Good: Triple pane windows reduce the street and wind noise in the house dramatically. The coating on champion windows works as promised by sales people. It reduced our air conditioning costs during the summer months, though at age 70, we'll never see a return on investment for energy costs. Perhaps if we were in our low to mid thirty's, we would, but at $2,000 per window, I doubt it. Still, we're hoping to see a small drop in our heat bill this winter?? The Bad: We use our attic fan in the summer evenings when the temp outside is cooler than our thermostat is set at. The main reason we went with Champion instead of Andersen is because Andersen didn't have upper operable window panes and Champion did. That way we can open the top of the windows a few inches to allow outside cool air to enter the home in the summer to reduce our air conditioning costs. However, when we do, there is a 3/8 inch gap that allow mosquitos, fly's, and other insect pests to freely enter our house. If Champion "sales person" would have told us this, we would have ordered full sized screens. A day after the install, when I called the Champion Colorado Springs office to ask for full screens, they told me, "You should have ordered full screens originally". You expect at $2,000 per window, Champion would want to keep you happy and just replace the screens....But no, they wouldn't even let us order new full-sized screens??? Doesn't bode well for their "lifetime glass replacement" warranty..... The Ugly: Our home has brown stucco on the outside. The installers used white caulking on the exterior of the white windows. That would have been fine if they were trained to lay a clean bead of caulking around the windows. But instead, they used their finger to "smooth out" the sloppy bead. On a clapboard sided home, that would work, but with stucco it makes for an uneven, sloppy presentation around all the windows of our house. It looks terrible, but there isn't a way to fix it now...... The Conclusion: Knowing what I know now, I may have gone with Andersen windows instead of Champion windows, even though Andersen windows were more expensive, since we can't use the upper pane to open anyway (Andersen windows have fixed, non-operable upper panes). I think that Andersen windows were better built windows and except for the sound deadening aspect of triple pane windows, there isn't a quantifiable difference in energy efficiency unless you get down to -20 f much of the winter, which we don't in Pueblo, CO. Perhaps with the higher window cost, Andersen windows would have tried to keep their customers happy and address their concerns........But I guess I'll never know 'cause we're stuck with Champion windows now. And, Andersen windows may have been as unresponsive to complaints as Champion is after the sale?????

Scam and over priced, charged way too much to fix their own product. Would not recommend.read more

RC Home Improvements

Through Rafael, Jenni, and Simon, along with the help of a great Public Adjuster (Compass…read moreAdjusting), my wife and I truly got the most done on our home with the least amount of stress. The work was performed as scheduled and to our expected quality (that, coming from a finicky engineer). There were no surprises at all. I cannot express our gratitude for RC Construction. We are thrilled with our house remodel! Our home suffered hail damage to the roof, windows, doors, decking, and stucco. We filed a claim with our insurance company. The insurance company only offered to replace some windows. Like most people, my wife and I did not know what our insurance contract actually covers and how to deal with insurance companies. Rafael knows this well, studies it, has personal consultants, has years of experience dealing with insurance companies and has a good relationship with Mark at Compass Adjusting. Together, they explained the policy and expectations. One phone call and one meeting later and we had committed with one rule: RC will only repair what is agreed to with the insurance company; we want zero out-of-pocket expenses. Keeping in mind the insurance company tried to get away with replacing only a few windows, the final project (ALL covered by insurance!) included flat roof repairs, roof drainage/gutter repairs, 22 new windows, 2 new doors, all new stucco, deck repairs, interior wall repairs, and complete interior paint. RC Construction and Compass Adjusting managed the insurance company so we never had to make even a phone call to the insurance company. We just sat back and let them do their thing! Referring to a previous review: Keep in mind, most contractors use sub contractors. Some of them also use their own subcontractors. RC has a great team of subs - most of them know each other through their church. All were in our house daily for 6 months and we had no issues with any of them. They were all great people! Still, it's up to us as home-owners to know what we're committing to, set agreed-to expectations and we shouldn't be writing reviews before the work is done. Part of that work includes a walk-through and (usually) final touch-ups. It has now been 3 months since our remodel was finished. The only thing we had to call them back on was that we found the window manufacturer had 2 wrong handles on the windows. One right-opening had a left handle on it and one left-opening had a right handle on it. No biggie - their window sub came out and switched them. We are very, very happy with the work done by RC Home Improvements!!!

My husband and I are repeat customers of RC Home. We have worked with Brisa and Hector on 3…read moreseparate occasions; each time has been for hail repair. The words that immediately come to mind are professional, thorough, and considerate. This is not a company that is just going to quickly throw some shingles on your roof and do a quick paint of your house. Their work crews take their time and make sure everything is done to an exceptional standard. The work they do is high quality and they will make sure you are completely satisfied with the end result. They make it so easy to deal with an insurance claim as they handle all of the communication. They will never ask you to pay anything beyond your deductible and they will meticulously inspect your property to ensure all damages are covered and repaired by insurance. We have had neighbors comment on the quality of their work as well as the professionalism of their employees. We, as loyal customers of RC Home would highly recommend them and we will continue to use them for our home repair needs.
