Charter Oak Federal Credit Union is the worst. Do not bank here. This is the 4th time in a year…read moreI've been left without access to my account without explanation. Last time I was without a debit card for two weeks. They sent a replacement card to the wrong address. So they sent a replacement replacement card. Instead of cancelling the card at the wrong address, they cancelled its replacement. I like to keep my money local, but the ineptitude is not worth it. My debit card was just declined on a $3 purchase. After apologizing with embarrassment I called the 800 # on the back of the card because it's 5:07pm and the branches are closed. I was told that my card was reported as stolen. I'm literally holding it. Not that there was fraudulent activity, mind you. Rather that it was stolen. I indicated I did not file a report and asked if the rep could tell me who reported it stolen. Or when it was reported stolen. Nope. No info. So tomorrow I get to interrupt my work day, leave the office and head to a branch. And I get to wait for another debit card to be mailed and *fingers crossed* hope they get it right the first time. Then, yet again, I get to update all my accounts: Netflix, Ipsy, etc etc etc etc. I can't wait to receive a payment declined email a month from now from a company for which I forgot to update. So much unnecessary hassle and frustration. Not. Worth. It. Closing my account and finding a competent credit union ASAP.

This is not a review on this specific branch but a review of People's United Bank in general…read more Was a customer of United Bank before it became People's United Bank. Always wary when banks merge because there's always wrinkles that may occur. In this case this is a major wrinkle!!!! With United you could schedule bill payments one day and have them sent and posted to the credit company the next day, except for weekends. With People's that's not how it works. You schedule a payment on the 4th it will not be sent to your credit company until the 6th. This was not disclosed in the transfer from one bank to another. This can cause late fees to be applied. When I inquired about this I was told that if a payment was debited to your account it would arrive the next day to the receiver unless it was debited on a Monday then it would be two days later to the receiver. Well it doesn't matter what day it is, it still takes two days to get to the receiver unless of course you want to pay a $6.00 fee to get it there faster. Doesn't work! Lost a service from the old bank and now are getting this ridiculous fee to have the same service. Won't be a People's customer for much longer and highly suggest if you're thinking of changing banks stay away from People's!

Debit cards connected to the wrong accounts causing purchase/payment denials, fees for every possible service or situation, and suddenly my mortgage goes up $103.00 (!) a month in the middle of the pandemic. I left this bank 20 years ago because it was lousy and now here I am again. Don't waste your time and money.
