Cute little cafe in Stockport with a rather extensive menu for it's style of venue! I was split between ordering a Panini or a Jacket Potato, which means I now have to go back and try the former as I chose the latter. I had beans and cheese on top and it was fantastic. Along with my food I had a Flat White (shock I know) and then because I was feeling rather fat from stuffing my face all week, I had a Broccoli, Pear and Kiwi juice drink and to my surprise I loved it! All this set me back £10, which is pretty much unbeatable, especially when you consider I used their free wifi for the best part of 2 hours! If you are ever in Heaton Moor, or even the wider Stockport area, Juniper is well worth a visit for a spot of lunch or a cake!

As my companions I had my wife and 8 month old baby and as the day went on more and more, the crushing pain in my cranium and need for coffee and stodge was getting stronger and stronger. My daughter was sensing I was not feeling the best so decided to cry as much as she's ever done in the afternoon, thus prohibiting our entry into many a coffee option but just as it looked like we were giving up hope and I'd have to rely on a quick coffee to go, she fell asleep and we got a kick ass table inside the lovely juniper. A favourite of my wife and her baby group, juniper is a very cool deli and coffeeshop with room for about 10 people to sit outside and about 30 indoors. The staff were friendly and the place was cool and well decorated throughout with a family friendly environment. So basically I got to the promised land and I nailed an amazing ham and mozzarella panini and a macchiato - wow this was good, like heaven. I once received an emergency blood transfusion and this was the next best thing as it really brought me round back to who I was. Juniper - I'll be back, less hungover and wanting to try more on the menu!

It is a really pretty little cafe and tearoom set in the heart of the village. Despite getting there late in the day they still had a pretty good selection of cake left and between us we went for a couple of chunks of rocky road and a fruit scone with jam and butter. The rocky road (my choice) was delicious and not too sickly sweet as sometimes it can be. My dad said the scone was good but was a little smaller than he was expecting/hoping. My husband and I had a flat white and cappuccino respectively and they were good, strong, well made coffees. The only thing that let this place down, and the reason I wavered between a 3 and a 4, was the service during our visit. As I said earlier, it was close to to the end of the day and despite not being advised of when they shut when we ordered, my sister heard the young girl behind the counter mutter to another customer that they were trying to close. She then spent the rest of the time we were there with a face that could have soured milk, so much so that it actually became comical by the end. Still not what I want to have as the overriding memory though. Shame.

Seating for about 30 outside and a similar size indoors, we went for the 'catching some rays' option and enjoyed some quality cakes and a flat white that was reasonably on the money (peeps need to start using less milk and smaller cups or generally you're just selling me a warm coffee milkshake) - while the rest of our party enjoyed tea. The only thing that let it down was that one of the girls serving us seemed seriously annoyed that she had a job where she is paid money to work and have to serve people. Her attitude was seriously poor and had a lot of people outside picking up on it and chatting about it. Fair enough if she wanted to go home but either lock the doors and don't serve people or paint that smile on if you need to :-)

So after blowing away the cobwebs on a chilly walk along the byways of Saddleworth, soaking in the views of the valleys and reservoirs, we completed the loop and were back at The Rams Head Inn for a much-needed Sunday feast. With two nippers in tow we opted for the side seating area away from the main dining room, which meant we were nicely self-contained and also fellow diners didn't have to endure 'toddler carnage'! You can select from their main menu here, as well as their bar menu. Not wanting to pass up on the chance to try a full meal I decided on wild boar & apple terrine for starter and lamb shank for mains - both were terrific; there was a generous portion of terrine and the lamb sloughed off the bone thanks to its cooking for 24 hours. If I see lemon meringue on any menu I'm compelled to order it and so it was done. Gorgeous it was too, more so with lashings of cream (I was telling myself I needed to replenish all those calories lost climbing over walls and ascending gravelled tracks...). For lighter dishes the bar menu certainly had some tempting options; ones I'll try when we come back again. Lovers of truly hearty and quality food, served in a friendly, rustic setting and surrounded by the wilds of moorland - look no further.

Luckily a friend recently recommended the Rams Head which has a nice moderate 3 mile walk that starts from from the back of the pub- win win! Anyway, enough of that exercise malarkey and onto the food! The Rams Head offers both a main menu for their dining room and a more casual lounge menu which was can be taken in their snug type room, complete with cosy wood burning stove. As we planned on our walk afterwards (and the winter sun was getting lower in the sky) we opted for the lounge menu which has an array of hot and cold sandwiches and 'something different' items such as game terrine and locally reared pork pies. Not being able to choose, my husband and I decided to order a hot beef and gravy sandwich and a slow roasted pork with stuffing, apple sauce and gravy sandwich to share. It's all pretty casual and so you order at the bar at which point my husband was persuaded to order a portion of the homemade chips as well. This turned out to be a brilliant decision as they were some of the best chips I've had in ages! When the sandwiches arrived they came in enormous white rolls with an equally good amount of filling and two little jugs of gravy for dipping and were absolutely delicious. You could tell the meat was really good quality (the menu advises on provenance) and the gravy that came with it was proper homemade gravy, as it should be. I can't comment on the boozy side of things as we opted for a cuppa each. This actually came served in a pot with Yorkshire's finest loose leaf and a generous pot of milk- always a bug bear of mine when they scrimp on the milk. They also have an onsite shop called The Pantry which sells locally raised meat, cheese and posh tea/biscuits etc, along with what looked to be a good selection of wine. The Pantry has a small number of tables if you prefer a cafe environment to eat in. This for me is a perfect country pub and I shall be returning here asap to try out the full menu. Basically it looks a lot cooler from outside with the indoor a bit 'average caf' like although the fact that you can see everything being cooked in front of you is a really novel and cool way to showcase that this place is all about good quality food. Although they do some tasty cafe items like burgers, sandwiches and snacks they're also a place where you can enjoy coffee and cake - and the cake selection is pretty epic! Our merry bunch of eaters all looked like the strangest, most eclectic 'orderers' ever with my wife and sister in law mainly enjoying cake and myself just going for a "light snack" of the ham hock terrine for £4.95. For this price I was expecting a little tiny bite, really not much to it but I was surprised to get a giant plate of ham hock, fresh bread, salads, pasta and loads more. It was so fresh and so tasty too - definitely something I'll go out of my way to have again if I'm up this way (I just won't have lunch plans afterwards too...) Friendly staff and seating for about 15 outdoors - with only 5 mins walk to Buxton train station. A really good spot and a place I'd recommend checking out.

The first choice of the Yelp recommendations for lunch was the Cafe at Green Pavilion: on this day, an oasis in a storm! Joining other rain bedraggled customers, we settled to the table adjacent the constantly busy kitchen, marvelling at the range of both sweet and savoury treats on offer: huge sausage rolls, fresh tempting salads and sticky pink cakes. A good choice of drinks, most in two sizes, both the Americano and Cappuccino were strong, but not bitter. A good variety on the menu from deluxe sandwiches to burgers, and a good range of daily specials, I was tempting by the homemade chilli, but conscious that we were dining in the evening, I plumped for the baguette with roasted vegetables, pesto and a dressed salad; a wonderfully tasting lunch, the pesto was full of flavour, and the sheer freshness and variety of the salad rounded off the dish perfectly. My wife had one of the soups of the day, a hearty vegetable soup, with carrots, cabbage, swede, celery, courgette and onion, with accompanying dark rye bread, a meal on it's own, perfect for a rainy day in April! Great service too, the staff were helpful and clearly passionate about their job, one of the best lunches I've had for some time.

First off I really liked the bar as it's a good, chilled out and welcoming sort of cafe bar. It's a bit like the Odd bars in that it's got random shizzle everywhere but it doesn't seem too over the top which is nice. There's a great selection of beers on tap and as well as all the usual standard crafts and lagers that you get nowadays, there's also a pretty sweet selection of local beers like Ticketybrew on tap. Alas I was driving and had a meeting so beer wasn't my thing on this occasion but I did plump for a tasty Moroccan lamb wrap with salad and flatbread (£9) to keep me going. It was quite nice but 3 days on I'm still unsure whether I enjoyed the taste of the lamb - it was a strange mix and I'm not certain the spice mix was quite right but I saw enough of the fresh ingredients on offer to go back and try more menu items another day - and of course stop for a pint!

Cafe bar with great interior and good food…read more Let's start this review with me saying I'm pretty biased about Folk - it was the location of my first 'date' with Dan. They were amazingly kind and on our first anniversary let me have a menu to put in with his present. It's one of my seriously happy places. They have booths at the back, a fair few tables round the bar and then a good sized outside space with seating too. The menu is good classic with a range of breakfast options served until 4pm. They also have sandwiches, a burger option, soup and a specials board. The food is freshly cooked and really good. Their bar is well stocked with great beers and spirits plus some excellent non alcoholic options their coffee is also fantastic. They also have a selection of cakes which is always changing, check out the blackboard for the options. Today they have sticky toffee, chai, honey & cinnamon, cookies & cream and berry crumble! Great relaxed atmosphere in the day and nice and lively in the evening this is a great place to try if you are in the area.

It ticks all the boxes and does so in a very casual modern atmosphere. I've been to The Spoon Inn several times now and I've always had a pleasant time. My wife is very happy with their tea selection, they make a good drop of coffee and the vietnamese coffee is bloody lovely and the only place I've found it in Manchester. If you've found any others that do this let me know. Most of the food on offer is a variation of a sandwich making the most out of their four hot panini presses / grills. We ordered veggie breakfasts with everything, it arrived steaming hot on panini bread piled high with mushrooms, halloumi and seasonal veg (courgette, peppers etc.) with a lovely runny egg on top. They even had worcestershire sauce when I asked which is something that can't be said about most cafes and breakfast spots, most only have brown or tomato sauce. The staff are all pleasant and welcoming. There are papers for the customers and free wi-fi. Could you even ask for more from a spot to while away a lazy weekend? Perhaps a beer or wine if you end up hanging around for a few hours? They have you covered here with a range of wines, keg beers and even rotating selection of 3 cask ales, hallelujah! I've never been disappointed by their guest beers and they have always had them on unlike a few places in Chorlton who regularly having nothing running on their cask taps. A very good cafe come bar come night spot which would definitely be a local haunt of mine if I lived in Chorlton.

Since then it fell mostly off my radar - there was always somewhere newer, with better reviews, closer to me, etc. When I spotted an online voucher deal for two burgers & two beers for £10, and so happened to have a Friday off work, I knew it was too good a coincidence to pass this up. So off I went. I turned up at around 2pm on a sunny Friday to find The Spoon Inn busy but not packed, with all kinds of locals young and old. The staff were immediately cheery, happily taking my voucher code from me and giving me the option to sit out the front, inside or out the back. We took two menus, two delicious pints of Kozel, and headed out back. Amazingly, the deal included anything from the regular menu. My companion went for the advertised burger and I chose a Polish sausage hotdog. Both were delicious, great quality meat with nice toppings, and with a salad and a handful of tortilla chips on the side, a nice light lunch rather than a belly-busting challenge of a meal. One of the things I like most about The Spoon Inn is that it seems as though everything they do, they do well. Definitely somewhere I'll head back to, even without a voucher.
