Woke up on a Sunday with an extremely irritated eye...and worked for the next few days with it like that. On Wed decided enough was enough and contacted Levinson Eye Clinic to have it looked at and they managed to squeeze me in emergency visit. Turns out I had a scratch on my cornea somehow, 20% of it, and had been ripping it open with each and every blink. Not only did they take care of me completely, they offered the best eye care I've ever had (and I've a lot of eye problems in the past 7 years similar to this). They checked my eye thoroughly and even put a zero power contact on it as a bandaid SOMETHING NEVER DONE AT ANY OTHER PLACE I'VE BEEN TO (WERE THEY ALL IDIOTS?) I had LASIK surgery with Dr. Levinson in 2007 when I was 29. I had relied on glasses and contacts for 23 years prior to this. The care and compassion from the doctor and his NP at the time was great! I don't usually write reviews, but today decided that Dr. Levinson deserved a shoutout for how happy I STILL am with the results. Just had my eyes checked for the first time in a few years (moved out of state so can't follow with him anymore) and my astigmatism is returning a bit which I was told would happen but overall vision is still 20/20. At the young age of 47, just need to start using readers! So very happy that I spent the money 18 years ago and invested in LASIK surgery and trusted Dr. Levinson. Dr. Richard Levinson performed Cataract surgery (monovision) and the experience was par excellence- truly amazing. Here is my testimony: Visual acuity is vital for all activities of daily living, but I struggled to see clearly to safely cook, read prescription bottles and night drive. I stopped driving immediately. Glares, light sensitivity, color distortions, and blurred vision were constant companions. I frequently changed reading glasses/ magnifying glasses. Poor quality of life. I had to do something and fast. After much research, I trusted Dr. R. Levinson MD based on expertise, trust, empathy, and highly experienced staff assistants with my most valued attribute -MY EYES. I made an appointment and was quickly accommodated. Check-in was great. From the time I entered the door to the office, I felt welcomed, and completely at ease. The receptionist kindly volunteered to assist me in completing the paperwork since I couldn't see well. Comprehensive eye exams were rendered by very competent, respectful, and highly experienced certified ophthalmologists and Vision coordinators. Very good time management and teamwork. Consult with Dr. Levinson confirmed Cataracts in both eyes, with the right eye completely blocked. He expertly summarized diagnosis and informed consent utilizing the Best Practice and Best Quality plan of care outcomes. He relates exceptionally well and provided time for feedback, questions, and concerns which enhanced our rapport. Cataract surgery was scheduled immediately (May 2024). The patient Educator was knowledgeable, competent, and resourceful. I was presented with a lovely bag with a pic of "The Mona Lisa" that contained an eye shield, sunglasses, eye drops/schedule for the drops. Resources for alternative transportation were available. Surgery was safe, fast, and uneventful. I remember waking up and saying "I can see, I CAN SEE. Amazing Grace. I felt so much joy. No pain or discomfort. Clear vision. Post-op care: I strictly followed d/c instructions so there were no complications. Dr. Levinson gave me the emergency number to call if complications. I went home relaxed and enjoyed the meals I prepared ahead and put in the freezer. F/U the next day, and a week later, and in 6 months with Dr. Levinson. I had cataract surgery with Dr. Levinson in September 2020. He proposed putting a distance lens in one eye and a multifocal in the other eye, depending on which was my dominant eye. I was reluctant to do that, but he convinced me that he had done it on many patients with much success. Since that surgery, my vision has been a disaster. I've had four different doctors make eight different pairs of glasses to little success. He told me prior to the surgery that if it was unhappy with one of the lenses, I could have it redone, but I've been turned down by five ophthalmologists to have it redone including UCHealth. I also contacted the manufacturer of the multifocal lens and they said they did not recommend the surgery that he had done. In August 2022, I was referred to a functional optometrist by my chiropractor, who, after extensive testing determined, I had severe tracking issues, Depth perception issues etc. and could benefit from months of visual therapy. Due to my husband's health issues we moved back to San Diego in November 2022. I can not afford the visual therapy. I beg you, don't let him do that surgery to you. It ruined my life. read more

I was extremely nervous to get LASIK and relied on Yelp reviews when selecting Dr. Levinson so it seems appropriate to share here and help others with their decision. It's been 2 years now and I couldn't be happier with my decision to have LASIK. Dr. Levinson and his staff were amazing. They genuinely care for their patients and you don't feel like just a number. On the day of my surgery I had planned on taking an Uber home from the surgery center but one of his staff members who I had been working closely with throughout the consultation offered to drive me to make sure I got in ok. It was a really nice gesture. I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to share my positive experience. Dr. Levinson did my PRK surgery in January. Results were great. Dr. Levinson, Mary, and the rest of the staff were truly great. His practice is efficient and professional. The staff was mindful of my time and i felt that they were never abrupt. I could tell that they are very experienced in ensuring that you have the best patient experience; they spend the time to understand your expectations so that they can give you honest answers. As for interaction and communication, I felt that Dr. Levinson had great bedside manners. Both Dr. Levinson and his staff were empathetic, open to communication, and helped me feel at ease throughout the entire process. Mary is the best. She answered all my small questions and made me feel very comfortable getting an elective surgery. I strongly recommend Dr. Levinson for eye surgery. He was actually referred to me by a close friend who had great results from lasik surgery. What an incredible business! Went in for a consultation, walked out with brand new eyes!! Worth every penny for excellent service and results. I was referred by a friend and his wife. Each of them had successful experiences with Lasik and PRK. The whole process was seamless and Dr. Levinson and team showcase their knowledge and experience throughout the entire process. I was recommended to do PRK given my terrible vision (-8 prescription w/ astigmatism) and thin corneas. I am now seeing close to 20/20 and it just keeps getting better as I heal! Dr. Levinson is a great doctor. He has a ton of experience. However, every time I come to his office (15 years now) I have to wait anywhere from 45m-1.5 hours to see him. He books all five exam rooms and each patient gets to just sit and wait until he comes to your room. It is so frustrating knowing that he thinks his time is so much more valuable than yours. read more

I think Dr Levinson is really nice and he was able to diagnose eye issues that I'd been having for several years. After the diagnosis and brief explanation he told me I should look it up on the internet for more detail. I was a little taken back by that. They also herd all their pts between multiple support staff and make you wait for a long time to be seen, even in-between tests in the back. My first appointment was 2 hours long, and then I received a call that they forgot a test! So here I am writing this review while I wait to get seen for that test (been 35 min so far). Okay, just finished my appointment. He was apologetic and very nice. I like this place, but the wait time can be a bit much. read more

Went to Dr. Levinson's office to get a consultation for Lasik after I had been told by my normal optometrist that I was a candidate for Lasik surgery and told by another office that I wasn't a candidate for Lasik or PRK due to thin corneas. I went into this office just hoping for them to tell me one way or another if I could get surgery or not and instead got a lot more care and concern for my eye health that I ever expected. From the minute I got there I was treated like I had been a patient there for years. At my first visit, a free consultation, they noticed that I had symptoms of Blupheritis (sp?), something my normal optometrist who I had seen recently hadn't noticed, and prescribed me antibiotics to help out so that we could get a clearer picture of my lasik candidacy. They saw me a second time and it still hadn't cleared up so they prescribed me something different and had me come in a 3rd time, when it was finally cleared up and they could determine if I qualified for the procedure. The other two consultations that I had probably took a total of 1 hour, and they gave me a yes or no answer without really explaining to me why in either case. At Dr. Levinson's office, him and Mary spent 3 separate appointments with me, each over an hour, discussing the things they were seeing, trying to help me get to the point where I could get the procedure, and explaining to me what everything meant now and how it could affect me down the road. Definitely above and beyond what I would have expected from a simple consult. If you have the ability to go to this team for your eye needs, you definitely would be making a mistake not to. read more
