In September of 2021 at the age of 71, I contracted withLevel Build Design in Loveland, CO. to fix my sagging hallway floor. An engineer from Level Engineering & Inspection LLC in Loveland came out, did some measurements & went in my crawlspace to see the problem. The company put in 2 beams. When finished, I stated that the floor still felt some sagging. I recall it being suggested that any more raising may cause the walls to crack. I found out those men don't work there anymore. 3 years later I had that 2021 permit pulled for the work and found that first it had been FAILED but a statement from the inspector said it may pass if he received a letter of explanation from the engineer. It was then PASSED on her letter stating the beams were "structurally acceptable" and that it had "(4)- 7 1/4" LVL beams" that don't require blocking. But this was UNTRUE being there were only (3)- 7 1/4" LVL beams and, I think, needed roll blocking. Then I had it inspected again in 2025 and the new permit was FAILED due to " beams not constructed per engineer's letter" and "splices at beams need to be on bearing points". LBD and Level Engineering & Inspection LLC had constructed 2 new beams about 5 feet away from the original beams and placed 5 feet more load for the opposite floor to carry, no wonder it still had a sag. There work cost me over $11,000. I have since had corrections done by a company I can trust. I wrote the companies and Owner stating my objections and asked for my money back. We were referred to Level Engineering by our general contractor when we needed engineering plans put together for a home renovation project. We are lucky to have been put in touch with Level Engineering and Chris, the engineer on our project. Throughout the project, Chris has been easy to get a hold of, great at explaining things, upfront about pricing, and fantastic at meeting (and beating) deadlines. He has gone above and beyond to help us ensure we have had everything we needed for our project to get approved, including several site visits and even proactive contact with the reviewer at the City of Denver. We would not have had a clue where to start when it came to all of the required plans and paperwork, so feel fortunate to have had Chris on our team throughout this project. He's done great work and we'd definitely use Level Engineering again if the need surfaces. read more

I had to call LEVEL Engineering to come out and inspect a structural beam in my home that a contractor incorrectly installed. Our Engineer was Zack and he was great! He explained the issues he saw so it was easy to understand and walked us through the process of getting it fixed and plans being drawn up. Even when my new contractor had to make minor changes and have the plans edited, Zack was super responsive and quick with modifications. I am so happy I found them and would definitely use them again. read more

I can only speak for the service that was done for me. I had some concerns with a home I just purchased, and booked with LevelEngineering through HomeAdvisor. Just wanted to walk through some of the concerns. Scott and his associate came out right on time. They walked me through my areas of concern, and were honest about what work would need to be done. Didn't feel pressure to add-on services. They found some areas of concern. We are currently assessing those. Overall the cost was fair, and they were very knowledgeable. My reputation on Yelp reviews are credible, so I'll review again so Alee from Level Engineering, who left me a message today wanting to know why I left a "one line review", and Yelp, who already has my biometrics as being an honest and helpful reviewer, will recommend my review, as usual. Steven Norton came out and told me that if I pay another $275 for a written report, then it would be public record and may prevent us from selling our house. How's that for credibility? Plus, um, where's this "free info on the internet re:international residential building code" he told us about? (I just saved you $275.) If you find it, please post a link. FYI there are 3 other homes like ours within 1000 feet. He never came into the house. After all that digging that I was told to do before they came out, he said to dig more. I told him about my idea of repairs, he gave us no plan. I had originally typed up a nicer but more detailed review, but I didn't want my house to be in jeopardy, so I posted 2 lines of truth. We got duped. A foundation repair company came by for free yesterday morning and put our minds at ease because we only need a couple of small repairs. So, Steve just created anxiety and worry and that's a very good reason to steer people away from hiring him. He just made us feel Iike it was out of reach to make simple repairs. read more

The owner spent months making excuses for not generating a report that I paid $375 for before I ultimately had to resort to disputing the charge. It's a shame because the engineer he sent to look at the house was nice and professional. read more

My experience started very positively. Scott met me at the house site, we were planning on building a dog hotel, but had to switch to the house first due to zoning restrictions. Scott and I talked about what he needed to do the engineering. He is very nice and seemed like it was going to be great. This was the last positive experience I had with them. I paid my deposit in January, but didn't close on the property until the 21st of feb. I have several emails asking Scott if he needed anything else to do the engineering, outside of the topographic survey. He said no, several times. Well closing on feb 21st came without a hitch, the topograhic survey was done on Feb 22nd. The finished report was provided to Scott the first week in march. After 2 weeks, I emailed Scott to ask how the engineering was going, he replied he needed the SOILS report. Which wasn't requested anytime in the two months of waiting prior. I called, emailed, texted with no response. Then told him I wasn't going to pay him unless he called me. He called said he needed the report, no apologizes or even an acknowledgment that he didn't ask for the report months ago and had been sitting on my project for 2 weeks. SO I ordered the SOILS report and asked what else he needed. He said nothing and that they would continue making progress while waiting for the report. 6 weeks later the SOILS report is done and I send it to scott. He doesn't reply, answer the phone or return messages for 3 days. I finally get an email from Travis saying he is working on my project now. Travis asks for wall details and the windows schedule (which I get but takes another 3 days so we are 4 months into the project and they haven't done the first draft of the engineering design). Travis is very responsive and we get through the last steps of the design by the end of May. I was supposed to meet scott to have him stamp the plans at 3pm. At 2pm I still havent heard where we are meeting, 3:30pm Scott finally calls and says he will stamp as many copies of the plans I want. I just have to get them printed and bring them to him (SO i am printing the plans which means he has no revision control and is stamping whatever I bring him). And that is exactly what happened. He stamped 3 sets of plans without reviewing or having any idea that they were the right version. I submitted the plans for county approval and to the foundation company. Both were underwhelmed with the detail. I have several emails of the foundation company asking for dimensions of the walls (which should be included). We finally get the plans approved but we made engineering changes so they plans have to be reprinted and stamped. I drove to Loveland, Scott was in a meeting. He handed me his stamp and told me to stamp the plans and he would come sign them later. He left me in the hallway with his stamp to stamp whatever I wanted - so ridiculous. Fast forward. The concrete company jumped through hoops and finally just emailed Travis saying this is what they are going to build, and Travis replied "Yes". They couldn't build to the plans, the plans were missing so much information that it couldn't be done. Travis came out to inspect the footings and foundation, but wanted another $300 for an approval letter. Mind you, Level engineering includes a note that you have to call them for inspections on their plans (or I would have just called the county for free). I paid the fee, got my letter and thought we were good, but alas NO. The framers started framing the house and asked where the second floor piers were for the hallway supports. Well they weren't poured cause they weren't included in the engineering plans, the "inspection" didn't identify that the piers were missing, it took 4 days for Travis to respond with a work-around to avoid digging out the backfill again to pour the piers. ROAR. Next stumbling block was when we went to get our electrical inspection. The Ufer rod wasn't inspected with the foundation pour. So I paid for the ufer rod to be installed, the electrician grounded to the rod, then I had to pay for grounding wires and the house ground to be redone, cause Level engineering didn't inspect (or even know what a Ufer Rod was) when they did the $300 inspection earlier. At no point during this process was there an apology, acknowledgment that things could have gone better, just blame. Blaming the architect, blaming the concrete company, blaming the electrician - no ownership just finger pointing, annoyance and subpar workmanship. read more

Based on a homeadvisor referral I contacted Level Engineering for a job designing a new porch/deck and gable addition to my home in August, 2016. When I was ready to award Level Engineering the job they informed me that they couldn't get to it for two months as they picked up some other work to be done. Nonetheless a few months later I returned to them to correct some errors another Engineer had made. It took Scott three months to get around to spending the ten hours my project required. I patiently waited because Scott seemed competent, which is hard to find for a small project. After obtaining my building permit since Scott was the Engineer of record, when construction began I asked him to perform inspections on the work to be done per Boulder county requirements. Scott charged me $400 to perform about 30 minutes of inspections and then neglected to send the required report to the county. Later, when I noticed an error with the Caisson construction post pour and asked Scott to provide a detailed solution he quit. I subsequently hired another engineer who provided the solution within a day and charged for 1.75 hours of his time. Now, Scott is demanding an additional $475 for the report he should have sent in the first place. Bottom line if you want to hire a quitter who will treat you like a second class client and delay your project by months, then pick Scott Zurn with Level Engineering! PS. I notice now two other negative Yelp reports for Level Engineering in the last few months. Both indicate that Scott and his associates were nice and professional in their first encounter. That was my experience as well. Perhaps something changed. I was OK with living with project delays as long as I received competent service, but I'm not OK dealing with a quitter. Scott quit after Sarah Trytten was replaced with Julie Wojtal. Is that a coincidence? I can't say for certain but time will tell. read more
