There are different hot specials each day, plus a limited list of sandwiches. I was saving room for the pie, so I had the Deluxe Grilled Cheese. It included bacon, lettuce, tomato and one of three cheeses on sour dough toast, plus chips or fries on the side for $8.95. I chose the Swiss cheese. Best grilled cheese I've had in a long time! Mom had the burger, and lemon cake. I got a bite of mom's lemon cake, and it was also wonderful. The restaurant is open 11 - 2 for lunch, and 5-7 for dinner during the week, and lunch only on Saturdays. If you're visiting Alabaster Caverns or just looking for a destination to drive or ride to, this place is worth the trip! It's small with only about four tables and it looked like she only baked one pie and one cake, so if you're going with a group, you might want to call a day ahead to be sure she makes enough dessert.

I was not asking for it for free--I specifically offered to pay for it. The manager, Christy, told me no and said there was no way to ring it up. What was most disappointing was the lack of customer service. There was no effort to find a solution or offer an alternative, and the interaction came across as unfriendly and unhelpful. For a customer placing a large order, I expected a little more willingness to help with such a simple request. Unfortunately, this experience left a negative impression on our visit.

There is also a menu of breakfast items and lunch fare on trendy chalkboards to choose from. Sue, owning a lovely Australia accent, graciously explained each item in the glistening glass case. The individual portioned Shook Pie, Shepard's pie and Quiche, were equally visually amazing, making my selection difficult. I chose the Schook pie. Comfort food derived from Sue's family recipes. Delicious individually crafted pastry pie filled with chicken, a delicate cream sauce, soft hints of garlic and savory vegetables. Each bite...Perfection!
