Bristol, Va. This bakery was our go to place for breakfast…read moreduring our week in Bristol. At first I was skeptical because of the long line that didn't seem to be moving. As it turns out there are a couple of ladies who really know how to run the show here. The line does move along efficiently and the lead lady communicates with the staff quite efficiently. There is also another lady who is a wizard of the espresso machine, it is a good thing they have her. On our first day there she came in late and this other lady took FOREVER to make our lattes, which turned out weak and milky. On follow up visits the wizard swiftly prepared our caffeinated beverages with great skill. The bean they use here has a good flavor but the espresso lacks boldness. The end product is just not rich enough, but it will do. The quiches are excellent, we always went with bacon Swiss or Loraine. They are a good size with a nice flakey crust, The granola yogurt parfaits are pretty good, the granola has a nice crunch to it. The yogurt was a bit sweet, it may be Chobani, but it went very well with the extra cup of berries you can purchase on the side. These berries by the way were fresh and beautiful. All the cookies we tried were great. They make a perfect affogato here, very addicting. I'm not sure if it's on the menu, but ask and you shall receive. The ice cream here is of a great quality, very creamy. The lemon berry tarts are way too sweet, they missed the boat on this one. I could not eat more than half of one. They did give us 15% off on the tarts because they were a couple days old. The candied pecans look good but the nuts are a bit rancid. All that sugar can't hide that.

We came in close to closing for a quick snack. Reclaimed older home with a lot of local art-…read morereminded me of restaurants in Charleston. The coffee we had was very good- latte and flat white. They had run out of cold brew. Cinnamon bun was very sweet but good. The gluten free brownie was ok and chocolate chip cookie was airy (interesting) and enjoyed. If we had more time would have liked to have a full lunch.

Great little restaurant with delicious food and a cute, relaxing atmosphere! We had never been here…read morebefore and decided to give it a try. The food was definitely the highlight, and I'll be back to try some of the other menu items. The service, however, could use a little improvement. Our server took a while to come over, and there were several moments where she seemed unsure about the menu. The sign at the door and the menu both said to ask about the grilled cheese of the day. When I asked, she responded in a very perplexed tone, "Umm, I think it's..." -- which was a little surprising since it was already 1 p.m. When she told me what it was, I realized it had meat. I even said, "Oh darn, it has meat on it," since I'm vegetarian, and she just replied, "Yeah." I noticed later that the menu says many items can be modified for vegan and gluten-free diets, so it would have been nice if she had mentioned that the grilled cheese could potentially be customized. I also asked what the soup was, and again she had to stop and think before saying, "I believe it's..." The name/description was unusual, so when we asked her to repeat it, she didn't really explain what it was. I'm still not entirely sure what the soup actually was. I was a server for years, and I completely understand not knowing every little thing, but knowing the daily specials and being able to describe them is pretty important. There was also some confusion about the breakfast menu. I was surprised to learn that grits are available after 11 a.m. on Saturdays. I asked if breakfast was served all day and specifically mentioned that I knew gravy and grits weren't available after 11 based on the menu. She then told me that on Saturdays they are available, which seems like something that could probably be clarified on the menu. Overall, the service wasn't bad, it just felt like it was lacking a little energy and attentiveness. We were never offered or given a refill on our sodas either. That said, the food was DELICIOUS, and the atmosphere is really cute and relaxing. I definitely plan to come back and try more of the menu. Hopefully the service was just an off day, because this little restaurant has a lot going for it!

Haven't been able to get a good cake yet since moving to Bristol last June. So when our son…read morerequested a Red Velvet Cake for his birthday, I asked a few neighbors and they recommended Unique Cake. I was worried I wouldn't get a cake as I just heard of them and his birthday was that day. A very nice lady answered and eased my mind by saying they would be able to supply one today! She was very patient and explained what they offer. I left it up to her for the colors and writing, but did request buttercream instead of creamcheese frosting as that was customary on Red Velvet. She said they would have it ready after 12:00!!! Wow, how accomodating was that. Pricing was resonable too. Well, just to let you know that was the best Red Velvet cake we have ever had!!! My son loved it! It was beautiful too. Just too bad he snagged a big piece b4 I could take a pic! I will be recommending Unique Cake to everyone and will be using them for all our bakery needs! Thank you so much for all your help in exceeding our expectations! We will be back soon.
