While I had attended a Cirque De Soleil in Vegas a couple of years ago it was hubby's first. Thankfully I agreed to go to this show. It was a much more enjoyable experience. The area is small enough that you see the performers up close. While the stage was smaller the up close factor made it awesome. I whole heartedly recommend attending this sort of Cirque De Soleil performance. The next time another such performance comes to Tyson's Galleria I will be sure to look into tickets right away. Next time Cirque De Soleil comes to Tyson's Galleria I would encourage folks look into attending. As an added bonus there are an assortment of restaurants close by making it an easy two part adventure with family or friends.

At the end of just one week I was amazed at how much he learned; they had a presentation showing the parents what the kids did during the week and demonstrate the new acquired knowledge. Singing, playing simple songs on ukulele, simple key notes on the piano, naming so many musical instruments, role playing, painting and doing art projects...I am sure I missed something but the point is that there was a lot of learning done in a fun way in just a week. The teachers Mrs. Goldman and Mrs. Cobb are very nurturing and make sure the kids stay on task in a kind way. In contrast, Gretchen can demonstrate how to move fingers and hands for every imaginable situation; and she gives invaluable advice for how to turn passages into mini-exercises for more efficient practice. While a student of Gretchen's I have managed to pass the ABRSM Grade 7 piano exam and Grade 6 theory exam. If your teacher just assigns you pieces like homework assignments and little else, then consider switching to Gretchen.

They offer the classes seasonly across all 3 of their studios (Fairfax, Mosaic, and Alexandria). Wiggletoes was a very foundational class and the teacher, Ms. Jennifer, made every week so fun! She was so warm and engaging. There was a different theme each week which went along beginner ballet moves, storytime, and acting out the story time. The class was only up to 6 children so it didn't feel crowded and each child had enough time for all of the activities. As the parent, you're also expected to be next to your child and engage in a few of the activities which made it fun for bonding. We didn't opt in, but they also host a seasonal recital as well. We were able to purchase the leotard, tutu, and ballet shoes through the studio, which made everything super easy. Unfortunately, my toddler didn't end up loving ballet but I really enjoyed our experience here and the quality time we had together through our weekly classes.

And guess what? Since it is a parent/child class, so have I! Their Wiggletoes class is aimed at 2-3 year olds and teaches the fundamentals of ballet in a really engaging and age-appropriate way. Our teacher Miss Holly is especially adept at dealing with young children, some who have never been in a classroom setting before. She rolls with the punches, makes things fun and the creativity she brings into each lesson is outstanding. Every class is incorporated with a story time + gorgeous, high quality costume. Seeing what they put together has become a highlight of my week. We unfortunately do not have classes right now because #socialdistancing but my daughter has still been applying what she learned at home. She loves to "tendu" all around the house and on our walks.

I attended the annual Norwegian Holiday Festival & Bazaar for the first time in 2017. This festival…read morehas been going on for 47 years--impressive. Here's what I saw in the various exhibition rooms: wool sweaters with snowflakes all over them; troll dolls; goat cheese; socks with reindeers; smoked salmon; coffee cups with "uff da" sayings; kransekake and krumkake; table linens; pewter creations; and lots and lots of artisan-crafted Christmas decorations (Norwegians like Christmas big time!). Hot food available: waffles, sandwiches, soup, coffee. Not to mention all sorts of Norwegian traditional cookies and baked goodies. Also, live music, lefse demonstrations, raffle and other activities. I had a fab time. Admission and parking are both free. "Bra gjort", Sons of Norway.

The staff is incredibly organized, it feels more like an organized Japanese, not Middle East Festival. Everything is presented nicely in different and multiple formats (plates, hand brochure or large food panel with pictures) so it is really hard not to know what is available. Hosts are welcoming and asking how they can assist. The only improvement would be to place a schedule of events on the website so people can gauge what event they want to attend (dance, or roasted lamb dinner or whatever else). There are many ethnic drinks offered and they complement great food. I had a Kibbeh Platter and it was so good that I wanted to meet the lady cook. This is really easy festival to remember because it always during the Labor day weekend. There is a lot of stuff for the kids (free pony rides for example) in the large backyard or you can have a church tour. The assembly hall is large and Arabic music entertained us entire time. The Sweets table is a LONG table with any baklava that you may think off (walnuts, cashews, pistachios, hazelnuts, ...) Sweets that I tried were all very tasty. I leave this place with a satisfied belly and notion that everything was perfect and I credit the great hosts for that.
