The owner Jeff is a super kind guy who is knowledgeable about surfboards, gear and surf culture. Brian, the manager is top-notch! Super knowledgeable, helpful, surfs himself and understands the boards and gear that he sells. He might not tell you this, but he's a top notch shaper himself although he doesn't talk much about it. This is a local store that deserves support. They've got killer stock of epic surfboards and clothing. It's the kind of place you can go in, have a drink or a coffee, talk story and look at some clips and some of their old boards they have on the wall. Definitely deserves some hype and some credit -- they've been around for a long time and in this economy it's important to support these guys. I've bought many surfboards here over the years and will continue to do so. Ridershack and ET Surf are the two core shops in Los Angeles that I go to.

Both of my girls got up on their boards their very first time surfing. They didn't even want to come in when the lesson was over even though it was pouring down rain. Nick was patient, encouraging, and just a really good time to be around. He made the whole experience easy and memorable for our family and took great care of us the entire session. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great surf lesson, especially with kids. We'd absolutely do it again.

The lesson could not have been better. Aloha brothers provides wetsuits and boards as part of the lesson. The instructor, Taylor, was so kind and patient and made the lesson so fun that neither kid wanted to take a break during the 90-minute session. To put that into perspective, we had to walk three blocks with surfboards, and they required three breaks to make it through that experience. Both boys ended up being able to stand on the board and could not wait for their next lesson. My son struggles to keep doing something if it's difficult, but thanks to Taylor's encouragement, he kept failing and kept getting back up and trying again. Communication with Nick, the owner, was fantastic. The price was great for a two-person private lesson (check the website for the latest pricing).

That almost never happens, at least for me. Next, they have an outdoor space that's super dog friendly. YAY! Staff is super down to earth and personable. I ended up buying the banana bread and it was delicious. Rich, moist, and a generous size for a single slice. (Can be split between /for two!) I also liked the crowd. Seemed like a good mix of everything from young professionals, to surfers, to the corporate crowd looking to decompress.

We did a one day camp with Sunrise just to see if my son would like it. He is six, and I wasn't…read moreready to drop him off and leave him as he LOVES to run to the biggest wave. So I wanted to keep an extra set of eyes on him and ended up hanging around out of site so we wouldn't be distracted by me, but close by so I would feel comfortable knowing how he'd respond to the instructors. I think they were fine with me being even closer but I stayed a little further away so my child would really focus on them. Also, it was his first surf lesson so I didn't want to miss it! What I saw had me grinning the entire time. When my son wanted to push the limits and travel a little too far out where I was ready to run in after him, instructors were pulling the kids back. They had their eyes on him. And there was a dedicated staff member standing on the beach keeping their eyes on the entire group whenever they were in the water. And it was amazing to see my kid stand up on the board for the first time ever. And the way he jumped and kept going - it was clear he was SO happy the entire time. Not my kid, but there was clearly a little one who was not comfortable with the waves. I don't know the full story, but what I saw was an instructor holding that child the ENTIRE camp in the water. That kid got to be as close to the water as they were comfortable, the instructors never sat her aside to play in the sand, they were clearly trying to get her comfortable and making sure she had some water experience. Props to you all for investing in every child at every level. Props to the instructors, we hope to return if schedules allow this summer. The only request I have is to put kids in bright orange/yellow/green rash guards instead of the blue ones. It was easy to see the instructors in the orange, but I would feel better if we could REALLY see the kids from the sand in water safe colors. That's it - THANK YOU again for a great day. My son really loved it and was so proud of what he accomplished in that short time with you.

They are the best in breed when it comes to surfing stores and I can't say eight great things about them. Not only do they carry just about everything you could ever need for your surf experiences, but they donut was class and style. Their inventory is massive and if you can't find what you're looking for here, then you'll never find it anywhere else. You can always tell more about an establishment, doesn't even have to be a surfing shop but any place, hotel, restaurant, airline or where ever it may be by the people that work there. Could even be a Macys or Nordstroms, theatre's or wherever. What tell you the most about a place by the folk that work there. At his location every employee there had a great attitude and knowledge of all surf. Product knowledge that you hadn't even thought of or crossed your mind before. These guys and the teams there are all first rate and world class humans in top of that. I want to especially single out the manager I met today, Zackariah. You couldn't ask for a better guy to be minding the store and Jack's is darn lucky to have him. Zackariah is a high quality work class human and Jacks is darn lucky to have have him. I've never been so impressed by a fellow running a gorgeous store like this or anywhere else. No, I'm not his mother or father or have any relation to him. I'll just a 68 year old guy who was so impressed by Zackariah, what a great biblical name too, that I have to shout this out to all of you potential and probably many customers already established customers. I will never go anywhere else to get gear for my 35 year old son who loves and surfs down in Encinitas, or my 30 year old daughter who's local here to the Santa Monica Bay who does a little surfing too.
