Located in the old walled city of Grasse it's a short distance from the parfumeries that tourists both French and international love to visit. It's best to park at one of the three nearby parking lots and walk through the windy narrow streets to this restaurant tucked away in the former store rooms of a building. There are the amazing arched brick and stone ceilings and there is a nice cover patio in front perfect for relaxing and enjoy the Cote d'Azur weather. It's the kind of place Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware go to get inspiration. Very Provinciale. Specializing in cuisine traditionalle there is a nice selection of a la carte starters, mains and desserts as well as two 3 course prix fixe menu for 36 and 26 euro both with many choice for each course. The portions are larger than at most restaurants in France. There are equal selections with seafood and meat and even vegetarian main dishes, not always something easy to find in France. The starter were huge with my salad being loaded with lardons as well a cured duck and the warm goat cheese salad the French spouse was just the way it should be she said and since she grew up in Grasse I'll take her word for it. The mains were equally good with a lamb confit cooked en papillote in filo dough wrapping, served with potatoes gratin and a celery root and parsnip root mash. The French Spouse had a more regional dish which is a seafood stuffed with fish in a tomato broth, it was served with rice and the parnip and celery root mash. The dessert were huge and tasty. One was chocolate mousse cake with a base of Genoise layer with super light but still rich and chocolatey cake with more creme on top and served with a cup of warm chocolate sauce to pour over it. The French Spouse's lemon crepe was full of tangy lemon curd and served with a shot of kir. The place is filled with locals wanting an upscale but comfortable meal. There is a lunch time prix fixe for 13 euro. The dinner menu ranges from 6 to 20 euros per plate and has to the two prix fixe.

Restaurant le Vol à Voile - View of the airfield

Good, simple food with great service…read more The Vol a Voile is located at the Fayence airfield. Fayence is a world renowned glider center and there is plenty to be seen on and around the airfield. The restaurant owner is the same as La Gloire de mon Pere in neighboring Seillans. The place is professionally run and it shows. The food served there is simple but good quality. There is plenty of variety in the menu. We arrived relatively late (8:45pm) but were greeted with wide smiles and seated on the terrace, right on the airfield. The place was full but service was efficient and friendly. I had the beef tartare which was well seasoned and copiously served. My wife had the lamb and was moderately happy. The third diner had pasta. The pasta order was wrong and was quickly replaced; to make up for the error, the chef prepared a huge quantity of the initially requested dish (see photo). We had the house rose wine which was fine. The prices are very reasonable and we had a pleasant time. We will be back.

This is a place out of time but right in sync with good food and fair prices. Add that to the cluster of old flyers gathered at the bar,the families gathered at tables inside and out on the terrace/lawn enjoying the good food while watching the gliders coming and going out on the grass runway, next to the sheep grazing, then you start to get the picture here.

The menu prepared wasn't particularly appealing to me but the stars of the lunch were the Seabass and chocolate mousse cake....absolutely phenomenal. We were offered an artichoke with anchovies and the anchovy overpowered the artichoke. The chicory tart with bleu cheese walnuts and bacon was mildly successful. The service was outstanding and the Red wine was another winner. I looked at their dinner menu and they have some lovely pre fixe meals for $32 and $40 euro which looked wonderful.

After it was poured , we all took a sip - that's when my friend discovered that he had just plunged his mouth into a cobweb . We called the waitress , who went to the manager. She came back and gave us this inane excuse that since the season was changing and people were sitting indoors now , they were using a different set of glasses ( the conclusion I got was that none of our glasses had been washed for six months ) . Then she shrugged her shoulders and poured my friend's wine , cobweb and all , into another glass . We asked for the manager. He was too busy circulating around the room and welcoming his friends and completed ignored us . We were not looking for remuneration, a simple apology from him would have been adequate . But as the French say : c'est dommage !

Come armed with patience!…read more If you want to spend a long time waiting for your food, this place is for you. Set in a nice location a couple of kilometers outside Fayence, la table d'Yves is a well known restaurant in the region. From the outside terrace, you will enjoy views of the neighboring villages perched on nearby hills. The setting is elegant and refined. The menu is okay with some of the dishes you would expect in an establishment of this category. There are 2 set menus: the saveurs menu at 33 Euros and the Inspiration menu at 49 Euros. Both of these offer very limited choices which is particularly disappointing in the case of the higher price menu. One of us went a la carte and picked the carre d'agneau roti (lamb) which was cooked at the requested temperature (pink) and was declared satisfactory. The other two went with the Inspiration menu. One of the appetizers was the fleur de courgettes farcies which was very good; the other one, croustillant de chevres frais, was just okay. The main dish we both had, lotte rotie (monk fish), was disappointing; the fish was not very tasty and the sauce pretty bland. The desserts were fine but not exceptional. The wine a Clos d'Esclans rose was fine when it finally reached our table. Overall, we left with the perception that this was a disappointing meal, especially in light of the prices. We did not expect to pay less; we expected to eat better. I would be remiss not to mention the inordinate amount of time we spent waiting at each stage of the meal. We arrived at 7:30 pm and left just before 10:00 pm. There were a total of 3 people hosting, serving, bussing, etc for close to 50 guests. Not sure if the kitchen is also a pacing item but this was very frustrating. Overall, this meal fell short of our expectations.
