    B&B Pinorama - 'Vista' room

We do NOT (we cannot emphasize this enough) recommend this B&B for several reasons:…read more 1. To start with - we had booked a room on the 3rd floor but right at the door we were told that though that room was available, there is another room on the 1st floor and we were sort of encouraged to take it. At first, we said OK, but then we realized that the 1st level of the house is kind of cold (about 0oC) and damp and smells like mold. Thankfully we got the original room we had booked. 2. Though the room itself was comparatively spacious, there was no space for our staff in the closets (except one section where the blankets and the bed sheets were). Everything else was filled with staff that belonged to the hostess, so much so that we had to keep our clothes, etc. in the suitcases. Not really very convenient. 3. The bathtub/shower was another issue. The bathroom of our room was built in the space directly under the pitched roof of the house (like an attic). Nothing wrong with that except the bathtub/shower are located in the lowest point where the roof reaches the floor. Not even a 5" high person or kid can stand under the shower. You have to squat or bend somehow. Using the bathtub did not seem a wise option to us either - it looked too old and not very sanitary. The fact that all the shampoo, shower gels, etc. were open bottles half used (I guess by previous guests) did not give us much more confidence in the sanitary conditions of the bathroom. Also - be prepare to not have enough water pressure if someone is using water somewhere else in the house. 4. We were also told that eating in the room is not appreciated. That would have been fine if we weren't also told that we could use the kitchen/dining area/living room IF NO ONE else is there (understand the hostess). Since all these things are advertised and featured on line, we believed they were part of the package (UNCONDITIONALLY). It is deceptive to post photos of the part of the B&B (kitchen, dining room, leaving room) and then say - you can not use them at your convenience. Those are actually part of the leaving quarters of the hostess, she is there watching TV and simply doing her things. One of the reasons we booked this place was the pictures of the fireplace and the leaving room advertised on line. Deception - these are not for the guests. 5. Security is another issue. The house is left unlocked all day/night long. Maybe the local residents consider the area safe enough to do that, but when one runs a business like B&B, he/she must provide better sense of security. On the top of this, the rooms (at least our) could not be locked from outside (only from inside). This is unacceptable for a place where complete strangers have to leave under the same roof. 6. At the end of our stay, after paying, we did not get any bill or receipt. Is this even legal? The asked price was way overpriced even for 5-star hotel. Unbelievable. I also have some concerns for the previous general positive reviews for this place! All in all - this place is very much substandard for 21 century B&B. This is not real B&B at all. For comparison - visit http://www.bbvoyageur.com/francais.html You get all that is advertised and MORE. Great place and great hosts.

The king room upstairs is better than home. The bed is comfy, the recliner was great, the bathroom was large and spotless. The room comes with its own large balcony right on the bay. We arrived by boat and the owner was great enough to drive us to a local restaurant and then come and pick us up. When we got back to the B&B, Jeanne had made us dessert! Strawberry shortcake. Breakfast the next day was incredible. All home made breads and coffee cake! All the eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, ham and home fries you could eat! We knew then we would be back. Since that first visit, we have been back here 6 other times and make sure to stay longer each time. Our last long visit was for 17 days. It was so wonderful, we never wanted to leave. Going to Heron's Way is just like going home to visit with family. Jeanne is incredible! Her family knows us well and they are all family. Our last visit was to spend our 10 year anniversary there. When we started thinking about where to go to celebrate, the choice was obvious. Heron's Way B&B, just like going home. If you are ever visiting Lake Champlain, Burlington VT or Plattsburgh NY area, you must make this one of your stops.

Heron's Way is probably the best B&B that I've ever stayed in. I hardly know where to begin. We…read morestayed for four nights on a short bicycling vacation around the Champlain Islands. The proprietor, Jeanne, is very welcoming and accommodating and is also very knowledgeable about local wildlife, the lake, restaurants in the area, biking in the area, etc. Our room was upstairs and it was very clean. It was also very large, with a very comfortable king bed, sofa, several comfortable upholstered chairs, large screen TV, large bathroom with double sinks, view of the lake from the windows, and a private balcony overlooking the lake. I think it also had the complete works of Stephen King in a bookcase, if you are a fan of his. Jeanne likes to cook, and the breakfasts are just over the top. Every morning we were served about 3 selections of fresh fruit plus applesauce that Jeanne makes herself plus oatmeal (I am not usually a big fan of oatmeal, but she cooks hers for hours, and it's REALLY good) plus something she bakes fresh (muffins, coffee bread, etc), along with coffee, tea, juice. Then, she brings out the rest of the breakfast, which could be eggs and sausage, french toast, or frittata, etc. Then we would waddle to our bicycles. Jeanne is flexible about when she serves you breakfast. If you eat a bit later, you'll get to meet the neighbors, who are very pleasant. In addition to the balcony outside our room, there is a deck and screened porch outside, and there is a dock and a small beach on the lake, so you can swim in warm weather. She also has a couple of kayaks that you can use. We kept our bicycles in her garage downstairs. I was sorry to leave. Definitely going back.
