Not only was the food excellent here but the service was incredibly friendly and competent. It was a little hard to figure out a few of the descriptions from the French, but all were good and one was quite surprising. It turned out to be a cheese quesadilla and guacamole. Quite good competition in fact, for any restaurant in Colorado, where I live. All the food and drinks were really good. The menu is presented on a chalk board and appears to change not only daily but throughout the day. We had a reservation for dinner so we were nicely set up with a good location table for four, in advance. It was really quite crowded by the time we left and we were glad we had been able to get in. read more

Because I am used to the standard quirky 30-seater great French restaurant in town, I'm taken aback when I go someplace that I remember warmly to find that it has been completely made over into something terrible. Gone are the dark woods. Gone are the interesting and singular dishes. Gone is the simple and unhurried service. In is a bright, minimalist finish. In is a pedestrian and boring fare made, apparently, for those tourists who are streaming in from Place des Vosges. It's always remarkable to find good restaurants near big tourist attractions - and this restaurant used to be one of those exceptions. No longer. As the locals stop by for brunch, which lacks even one interesting dish, they will have an experience of a passable, but unremarkable meal, and not return. Tourists may be perfectly happy with a serviceable and not terrible brunch. I don't know why Les Bonnes Soeurs changed a winning formula, but it's not worth visiting, at least not for brunch, anymore. read more

After the famous Boffinger Disaster, and a LONG day of wandering around Blvd St Mich, mostly in the rain, not to mention the exquisite torture of the Car Rouge tour bus, we grabbed a restorative nap and headed out to find what to eat. Since we're staying next to the famous Hotel Sully, we walked back to the Place Des Vosges and discovered Les Bonnes Soeurs (The Good Sisters - although whether actual siblings, nurses, or nuns we were unable to determine). Seated at a corner table by the window, we ordered a carafe of excellent Sancerre and watched the locals and tourists wander by as we waited for our orders. With our wine, we started with their little appetizer of three little shot glasses of spreads and a load of nicely done toast rounds. These glasses held a tapenade, some pinkish fish stuff, and some artichok-y spread. All excellent and, as we discovered, a great way to kill your appetite. We ordered the Bar (Sea Bass) over a bed of broccoli and potato sludge (yum) and the Espadon (sword fish) with basmati rice. All delicious and nicely presented. We'll be back. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. I just noticed the Yelp page for it. We have been eating brunch here for over 5 years. Whenever we're in Paris (we've spent month-long stretches a few times as well as regular week-long visits), we eat brunch here every Sunday. Every Sunday. Without fail. Ok, so what's the big deal. Well, for starters, it's the best brunch ever made in the history of the world. It's that simple. The brads and brioches are fabulous. The scrambled eggs are BY FAR the absolute best ever. They're probably better called "coagulated butter with some egg to make it stay together", but that's OK. Get them, and eat them. Now. Go. And, get the slab o' salmon on top. Then, eat tarte tatin. Then, find somewhere to roll yourself onto while you spend the next 30-40 hours digesting. The people who work here are usually pretty nice, and the service is good. As everything online says, the line develops and develops quickly. It gets long. So, arrive early and be prepared to wait. But, for christ's sake, don't eat while you're strolling around Place des Vosges waiting. The last thing you want to do is go in here and not be able to eat everything they put in front of you. read more

The food here is amazing. I've so many meals here. Every single dish on the menu is incredible, which is a very rare miracle. My personal favorites were the honey-roasted saint-marcelin cheese, the big bread-coated warm goat cheese salad and the pancetta risotto. The desserts are also good but I usually don't have room for them. The atmosphere is very friendly. Small tables, friendly waiters. The acoustic is not great and it usually gets pretty noisy but it's a great place nonetheless. read more

Let me start off by saying if it were not for the service this place would get an immediate 5 stars by me. However, the service was unbelievably bad extending beyond the usual inattentive french server. The waiter at one point knocked my drink over into my friends food, knowingly, and didn't care to try and clean it up, bring me another drink or bring her a new plate of food (she hadn't touched it yet). What I can say positively about Les Bonnes Soeurs is that the food is absolutely excellent. After my drink was replaced and another waitress was called down to bring her a replacement plate of food, we enjoyed an excellent brunch feast. The food from beginning to end was not only incredibly good with generous portions, but it was a huge bargain considering all that you get for just around 23 euros. Of course the place is small and with poor timing you could end up waiting to eat but I still highly recommend coming to this restaurant. Just watch your drinks! :) read more

This is the worst meal we had in Paris and it wasn't cheap. We were seated in the worst table in the house, which was okay since we didn't have a reservation. But they really ought to take out that table as you have to have the people next to you get out of their seats to let you in and once you are in you are sardined in from the sides, front and back. I ordered two glasses of Viognier and a bottle of wine, and specified no Guigal. The Viognier was ok, if not a little dull. The he brings me an open bottle of the Guigal that I asked him not to bring. Obviously I should have sent it back, but I saw everyone else drinking it and thought perhaps it was better than I remembered so I accepted it. It was actually worse than I remembered. Overoaked, vanilla tasting, thin crap wine made to appeal to the masses and tourists. Our appetizer was the croutons with three spreads. The fish spread was very disgustingly fishy so I left it alone. The artichoke spread was uninspired and dull. The third spread was supposed to be olive based, but I guess they were out of it because it was replaced by guacamole (not even good guacamole)! The croutons were something you'd expect to buy from the store, they certainly were not fresh. Lame, lame effort here. I was starting to worry at this point because no self respecting chef would try to pass this off. Our two main courses were Beef with Roquefort and Wok Chicken Sesame. The beef was nearly flavorless with out the sauce and very tough to cut through, very poor cut of meat. The sauce was terrible, tasted like a poor quality blue cheese. The presentation of the dish was juvenile. My wife ordered the Wok sesame chicken on the waiters recommendation. It wasn't terrible, but it was mostly flavorless and boring. I could have done better at home without any cooking experience. The presentation was sloppy, with uneven cooked pieces of chicken filling up the plate. We had enough. I called for the check about a quarter of the way through the entrée. The waiter asked if everything was okay, I implied that we didn't like the food and he was extremely offended. I get that, but come on he HAS to know that what they are serving is a joke. I paid the 109 euro and my wife gave our dining neighbors a 3/4 filled bottle of Guigal. read more

came here for brunch and it was great! luckily we got there early because when we were leaving there was a line outside to get in. The brunch was really tasty! the juice was fresh squeezed, the eggs scrambled just like I like them (and a rarity to find scrambled eggs in Paris), the bacon was pretty crisp (crispier than most), the pancakes were SO good, the bread was fresh and served with nutella (yum!) and the coffee was hot and fresh. The servers were fun and upbeat and the decor is super cute. I'll definitely be back! read more

Waste of time and money. Supermarket quality food, nothing special about the salad, juices, salmon or any of the desserts. When it's finally your turn to get a seat at the table you're rushed like you're taking too much space and time already. Go somewhere else if you don't want your day ruined! read more

Arriving at this restaurant, we found a jewel of a space located on a lovely street. The ambiance is intimate, warm and cozy, perfect for dinner on a blustery fall evening. Unfortunately, our experience peaked rather early. The indifferent waiter responded to our gin-and-tonic orders with a shrug: "Out of gin." Fine, how about a mojito? Another shrug. "Out of ice." OK, this red wine looks good... "Out." (He did try to make it up to us by 'charmingly' and enthusiastically winking at the women in the group. This worked for a while, until I noticed he was dispensing a similar star treatment to every other female in the room. Oh well.) As a vegetarian, I disagree that this spot is a good choice for non-carnivores. The main vegetarian dish, risotto, was out (even though we ordered at a fairly early 7:00). An entree salad requested without meat arrived virtually smothered in ham. A gem of a space and unbeatable ambiance can't make up for a lack of basic services. Good value for money for the district This little place just off the Place des Voges is classic French at first glance but with some nice, modern and refreshing extras... I liked the choice of nibbles for the apero - 3 little pots (tapenade, anchovy cream, or pureed artichokes) with crostini, homemade guacamole, cheese bread...The mains were delicious and copious to say the least and there's a nice of choice of desserts from the expected tarte tatin to the not so expected... trifle - this side of the English channel?! The only regret would be the slightly restricted wine menu, but all in all, friendly, casual service with a smile;nice place for an easy going weekday dinner out. read more

My wife and I were in Paris visiting friends. And it was my wife's birthday. Our friends had heard that Les Bonnes Soeurs was a birthday-worthy celebration restaurant and so we went. Neither one of our appetizers was memorable: well, except for being over-seasoned. And three out of four of our entrees were downright miserable and the plating seemed unworthy of a mediocre home chef: my duck breast was so chewy it was like eating gum; the scallops looked miserable, but tasted good. But the final thing that soured us on our experience was when my wife was pick-pocketed while we ate. Allow me to explain: Her wallet was in her coat pocket which was on the back of her chair. She'd taken it out before dessert to get some Chapstick and then put it back in her jacket pocket. She realized it was gone when we got up to leave. A guy sitting behind her at the next table (behind us -- the tables are practically on top of each other) had lifted it in the interim. And then he and his friends got up with their backpacks and bags and relocated to the bar to drink with their new-found wealth while we finished our desserts. The staff and this group seemed like they knew each other from what I could tell. So, if you like mediocre food in a city full of deliciousness, watch your possessions closely. read more

We discovered this restaurant three weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Great atmosphere in the restaurant. We got there just before 19:30 and were able to get a table without reservations. Service is quite good. Goat cheese pasta and the scallop dish are delicious.
