My experience during the approximately four weeks of representation was extremely disappointing. Early in the representation, Mr. Burton strongly recommended that I request a change of judge in my existing case. I followed that recommendation and subsequently had significant concerns regarding the proceedings before the newly assigned judge, including my experience that I was not given an adequate opportunity to speak during the hearing. I ultimately regretted following the recommendation to change judges. In the TPO matter, I was particularly concerned about the level of preparation. Approximately five minutes before the hearing, I observed Mr. Burton working on notes for the matter. From my perspective as the client, I expected my attorney to be substantially prepared in advance for a hearing involving an existing protective order. I also did not recall being advised that pursuing the TPO matter was not worthwhile before the hearing. I also experienced what I considered to be significant organizational and communication problems during the representation. Work was, in my experience, frequently handled very close to deadlines, including an opposition response for which I was concerned about meeting the applicable deadline. Mr. Burton's public response to my review also states that I received a "complete refund" and that he "voluntarily refunded every dollar she had paid." I dispute that statement. My records show that I paid $4,000.00 and received a refund of $2,063.00, leaving a difference of $1,937.00. I have retained the payment and refund documentation supporting these amounts. Contrary to his narrative, two eyewitnesses can confirm I arrived 25 minutes early to court, where Mr. Burton appeared without a single document or piece of evidence prepared. I also dispute statements in his response concerning my character and suggesting that I have recurring conflicts or that my recollection of events is unreliable. Those statements do not reflect my experience and are not supported by the facts and documentation relating to my representation. This review reflects my personal experience as a former client and the records I retained concerning the representation and payments. Based on that experience, I would not recommend Mr. Burton for anyone's legal matters. A brief look over of Mr. Burtons's responses to critical client reviews on yelp and other pages further proves a well-established pattern of volatile temperament, deficient self-awareness, and a pervasive lack of professional accountability. Rather than adhering to the ethical standards expected of a licensed practitioner, Mr. Burton consistently engages in retaliatory, unprofessional conduct that undermines the integrity of the legal profession.

My reason for giving 3 stars is the billing. I retained Molly with a $7,500 retainer primarily because I expected the case to proceed to an evidentiary hearing. I was not comfortable representing myself at that hearing, so I felt paying the retainer for experienced representation was worth it. When the case ultimately settled before the evidentiary hearing, I was surprised that the entire $7,500 retainer, plus my $150 consultation credit, had been used and that the final invoice still showed an additional $932.50 balance, particularly because the firm represented me for approximately three weeks and substantial case materials already existed when it took over. A substantial portion of the charges related to the Pre-Trial Memorandum, a document of approximately 30 pages. I was billed $4,117.50 for 6.1 hours of reviewing case materials and initially drafting it. I understand the memorandum required legal work, but I came to the firm with my own 30-page opposition already filed, a detailed case summary, and much of the evidence organized by prior counsel. In my opinion, $4,117.50 was excessive for that part of the work. I also disagreed with specific charges, including $61 for a text providing the Zoom link and login information for a hearing, and another $61 charge related to an email the firm acknowledged was sent to me in error. Those charges added to my concerns about the billing. After I raised my concerns, Molly ultimately waived the remaining $932.50 as a courtesy adjustment and closed my account with a $0 balance, which I appreciate. Overall, I'm happy with the case outcome but disappointed with the final cost and billing approach. I recommend that prospective clients discuss billing expectations, communication charges, staffing, and document-drafting costs in detail before retaining the firm.
