I realized on Thanksgiving morning completely by chance, that the lens rental I had placed two weeks before had never gone through (completely by my own fault). I had simply never hit the submit at the end of it my order. To say I went into full panic mode is an understatement. With everything closed on Thanksgiving, and the online platform not allowing me to set a weekend rental date for 11/29, I thought I was absolutely screwed for an important Saturday night shoot. Entirely unprofessional. After scouring the internet once again in my area for rentals and making many, many phone calls, I ended up throwing a Hail Mary and writing Lensrentals.com an email explaining my entire situation. Ari is an absolute legend for writing back within the hour on a National Holliday when there should have been zero chance of response, and proceeded to email me back and forth, walking me through how they could help save the day. I couldn't believe it. An absolutely amazing human. This kind of customer service DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE. Ari shipped out the lens immediately the next morning and had it to me with overnight shipping for Saturday morning, ready to go. If their main location was close to where I lived I would go there immediately next week and bring an entire basket of goodies with the biggest thank you of all time. I tried to borrow a Sony camera which is already overpriced but I decided to rent it anyways.. After all taxes and fees plus insurance it came out to almost $300 for 6 day rental.... Then the next day they called me said I have to put a $1900 deposit down plus the $300 for camera rental... They told me I didn't qualify... My $ 100 PLC got stuck on a $15 protective UV filter. I called to ask how much to just pay for the protective filter so I can keep using my PLC. They told me, oh don't worry about it we have the tools to separate them, and we will return your PLC . So upon Lenrentals advice I returned it... again, NOT what I was originally asking for them to do. Lenrentals idea... so I get and "good news" email. So glad I didn't have to pay for your gear that I basically asked to buy so my filter was still mine. Give me a fucking break! Hey, The good news is that there was no damage to our gear once they got that filter off, so no repairs cost here! Quick story. I needed a great telephoto lens for volleyball pictures. They rented me a fantastic lens. Great pictures. Then in my haste I sent it back UPS instead of Fed Ex. A big mistake and totally my fault. UPS lost it. Totally my fault. So I had to pay $2000 for it. So I called UPS and Fed Ex, no luck, It was gone for good. Fast forward a year and I get a call from LensRentals. It was returned to them by Fed Ex and LensRentals called me immediately. I'm here to say they could have easily kept it but returned it to me. Ordered a new lens in december. It was not in stock, so they kicked the can weekly to the following week. No updates via anything. I called a couple times and they just were like oh we will check, and came back hours later with a, sorry still out of stock. A week ago (4 months later) they changed the status to shipping, but no expected ship date. called again, and they said, oh were still out of stock with no indication of when it would be available. I talked to a super happy but completely useless supervisor twice. Bad communication all around. useless website. Also they just bought out borrowlenses so that the bar could be dropped even lower. Avoid. I got fed up waiting, as there was no indication it would ever come. Went on Apeturent and they were awesome. They were able to find it in their network of stores and were able to ship it a day later. They accomplished everything in a single phone call (account verification, stock inquiry etc) and called back again to let us know it was going out today. I was going to Iceland and needed a lens to capture the Northern Lights, if they decided to show. I have a Nikon D7500 but my current lenses are not nearly fast enough to capture the Lights adequately. Lens Rentals had plenty of options, so after a little research, I opted for the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art for Nikon. What I liked: Lots to write here. They are great by providing lots of email feedback, ensuring I knew the order was accepted, shipped, enroute and when to be delivered. It came in a foam lined hard case that was inside a well marked cardboard box. The lens arrived in perfect shape and appeared to be in new condition. Lens Rentals included a prepaid return label, instructions on how to return the lens and even some tape to reseal the box. All I had to do was follow the directions and take it to a FedEx approved shipper when I was done. The price of the rental was about 1/10th the cost of buying the lens. Since I may never need a lens this fast again, I consider it a bargain that was very convenient and easy. What I didn't like: Nothing to write here. Ordered a lens for the birth of my twins.. Never received it! I contacted them . Horrible scam of a company, sounded like they dont even own the equipment they just middle man through another company and mark your price way up. First they charged me a hidden $10 fee that wasn't added until after I completed the purchase, it showed up on my statement. When I called them on it, they said it was a mistake and would fix it for me, but only because I told them too. Then they tried to charge me THE FULL NEW PRICE of the equipment as a deposit for USED equipment. If I wanted to pay $3,000 to rent I would just buy the camera on my own. Never again. read more

Have used them for camera bodies, lenses and lighting gear - all of it was in new condition, well packaged and arrived with a prepaid return shipping label. I have rented from LensRental twice. The first time I rented a Canon 90D for a shoot and everything went smoothly, so I decided to rent from them again for a vacation to Florida. I had them shipped to be delivered to my house 5 days before I left for vacation, but because of FedEx delays I didn't receive them before catching my flight. I reached out to LensRental's customer service, and they were able to overnight me a second set of lenses to Florida close to where I was staying so I still had them for my trip. They have top notch customer service, and were easy to contact with any problems I had. As an Iowan customer, this is a review for their service/etc. from shopping on their online store. My trip was actually taking me through Tennessee for this particular instance, but it was well outside their store hours. My box was fun to receive. I rented a single lens. The lens itself came in an extremely well-padded square box. The padding was so well-done that it was actually slightly difficult to get the lens out! The lens came in a zip-up bag (not original packaging) along with multiple, multiple layers of foam to protect it. There was an informative insert about the lens and my order that also included the return label for shipping it back and (get this!) some pre-cut strips of packaging tape to tape up the box in case I was bringing the lens along for a special occasion (like I was) and wasn't bringing packaging tape. Way to think ahead, LensRentals! Had absolutely no problem with the lens itself. It came exactly on the day it was expected to come, and as a note, their delivery DOES require a signature, so make sure you're home! It was in fantastic condition, and it functioned perfectly. It's exactly what I expected - and honestly, with the good price LensRentals gave me to just outright purchase the lens after I was done renting it, I chose to do so at about 40% off the price of purchasing it new. I already knew the lens worked and it was what I wanted, so why not just purchase that copy? Buying the lens from them was easy too. Just a couple clicks on their website, and they had rung up the charge to my credit card - and it was now my lens. Simple-simple! Win-win all around, and I'm a happy customer. After placing my rental request, they emailed asking for my employer's information, job title, company email, business website, and personal website. This is information you should NOT share with someone via internet and it is NOT professional for a company to ask such personal questions. They claimed it is to ensure I could cover the costs if any damage was done to equipment. Any place of business should have a Terms & Conditions agreement set in place to cover their assets. The request for personal information is extremely unprofessional and no one should share this information via the internet. After offering to place a deposit, they advised it would be $1,500 which is 3x the total cost of rental, also absurd. I would strongly advise no one to share their personal information with this company and to take business to BorrowLenses.com which had a much simpler process. read more

I really cannot say enough positive things about this company! As far as price and selection, they are neck-and-neck with their most prominent competitor in the "online lens rental" business. But their service, Dear Holy Science in Hyperspace, their service. The ladies and gentlemen that work here are very snappy and quick while simultaneously acting very warm and hospitable. You get PERSONAL emails from REAL humans. I almost want to start chatting with them about the weather, that's how nice they are. (and I loathe chatting about the weather!) I live in Alaska and I've often received lenses a DAY EARLY at no extra charge. That's how speedy and efficient they are! They often have new stuff for rent before you can even BUY IT AT AMAZON! Rented camera and lens for trip to Yellowstone. After trip I immediately returned all the equipment, although accidentally returned MY 2 SD cards (identical to there's) instead of lens rental SD cards. I received an email telling me to return thier original cards and was told mine would be sent back. Never received my cards, and when I contacted them I'm told it was "moved out of storage" and that I will not receive them back. This costed me $120 worth of SD cards. Lens Rentals, one words a joke. We rented a lens in April and when our rental agreement was up we tried to return the lens and we were told; by the lady at the desk that they didn't have record of our order and they didn't have our name on the return sheet. So we kept the lenses and made a few calls back to them to try to return them. Still no record of it. Fast forward to December we order another lens and extended the agreement twice. Not one time did lens rentals bring up the rental from April. We went over our rental agreement for about two days when we received an email from lens rentals letting us know that we had extended our rental and needed to return the lens and that we had a balance from our order in April that came to a total of 1,500. Oh no. I immediately called them to discuss this issue because we weren't paying for that. 1. No one reached out from April to December about the lens via email or phone. 2. We attempted to return the lens multiple times. FLASHBACK: some time in early 2018 One time I rented two lenses and wanted to extend one. So I went up to lens rentals and returned them and asked to extend one. And was told that they had no record of my card or account. it was an entire mess. I end up having to have them take my card information there. Back to present: we ended up talking to Zack. Zack is rude as hell. He was so rude to us telling us what they wouldn't have done instead of apologizing about the situation. Because any logical business who offers a rental service wouldn't go about 9 months without trying to get their equipment back. So they CLEARLY dropped the ball. When we talked to lens rentals it was the second week of January and we were out of town. During that time we were emailed on several occasions to bring back the lenses. I didn't see these emails until I returned back in town. One email even threatened to get the police involved which is totally understandable; but where was this energy when we had the lenses for 8 months !!!! We returned the lenses and the following week we tried to rent new lenses and were told in order to do that they would need to hold the entire amount for the lenses. Well I'm that case we can just buy them. We tried to resolve this issue over the phone with a woman who was over online orders who was very skeptical of our entire story which is understandable again. But let's think logically. 1. We have ordered from lens rentals multiple times and you can see that from our order history. 2. We have returned ever lens that they had " record " of 3. And if we would have just forced them to take the lenses when we initially tried to return them then we would have still had this issue because they had no record of it. I've rented gear from Lensrentals occasionally for the last six years.  I'm not what you would call a superstar customer for them.  It's always been a good experience and they've always been great to deal with.  I'm writing this review because they went above and beyond this time.  I'm renting the Fujifilm GFX 100 and a 63mm lens right now.  It's almost impossible to get your hands on this new medium-format camera, and rental commitments are stacked up for weeks.  The rental was supposed to be for three days, Monday 11/18 - Thursday 11/21, but they got it to me on Friday 11/15.  Three extra days for this camera would have cost me more than $100.  My first experience with them was after I had been renting gear from their rival company, which I'll call "BorrowStuff".  I used to rent more often than I do now and I was a solid customer for BS.  I wanted to rent an insanely expensive (over $10,000) Canon 200-400mm f/4 lens to shoot the America's Cup races in S.F. Bay.  BL wanted a certificate of insurance from my insurance company.  My insurance company was unwilling to do this, for whatever reason, so I was out of luck.  I went to Lensrentals.  First-time customer. No hassles whatsoever, lens rented without question.  I've rented from them exclusively ever since. read more

Our tight budgeted production reserved lenses from Lensrentals (L.R.), only to be told days before shooting that we still needed to be "verified". I gave them a link to our LLC to verify my identity and I suppose credentials -- we've produced commercials, music videos, live events, and short narratives. L.R. determined I was "unverifiable" and would only rent to us if we afforded them a $2800 deposit (half the cost of the equipment if purchased), on top of the rental fee... When there are alternatives like ShareGrid, where you can purchase temporary insurance for $85, I can't imagine ever trying to work with L.R. again. The quick response time from the ShareGrid community and comparable pricing makes them a go-to for all my future projects and my first recommendation to my "unverifiable" friends. I used Lensrentals.com to rent my first lens for my Canon 7D. I'm simply a hobbyist and don't shoot enough to justify purchasing an L lens, however, I can justify renting a lens if I'm going on vacation. I brought the 24-105mm f/4 L with me on our vacation to San Francisco. Coming from the inexpensive 50mm f1/8 II, HOLY Crap! This lens was amazing! The only con is now I'm spoiled by L glass. :(((( The process was super simple and quite economical, I thought. I rented the lens for about 6 days, and with shipping, it was about $75. My boyfriend paid for it as a birthday gift to me, and the mailing address for the CC was associated with our apartment in Indiana, and I had it shipped to my work in Kentucky. Run, run very fast to BorrowLenses.com instead, and: Absolutely frustrating process with these folks and I had high hopes being in close proximity - in North Carolina. I attempted to rent a Nikon 300mm F4 and a Lensbaby 85mm. The combined retail value is probably $2500? I was denied rental privileges for seemingly no good reason - the email they sent me was that they weren't able to verify me. I'm not sure how - I gave them legit bank information, a credit card with a limit well over the value of the equipment, and a reference for Southeastern Camera who I've rented from previously here in Raleigh. They wanted another email address from another domain. I'm not sure what the proves? I am an independent IT contractor who works for himself currently. All of my banking information is linked to my permanent home address in Wisconsin where my accounting is performed by a family member. I don't see how this would be any different than a photographer who is traveling and wants equipment shipped to a hotel? Anyways, I would say steer clear of this place - as they are difficult to work with no matter how legit of a consumer you are. Very sad. Furthermore I have a credit history that is solid with over an 800 credit score! I'm not sure what better of a renter they want! Will have to scramble now to get something in place by next week.
