Several dishes tasted more like they were made from premade mixes or boxed ingredients than prepared from scratch. We really wanted to love it, but the overall experience left us disappointed. We'll always support local businesses, and we hope to see more Caribbean flavors brought to the area. For us, though, Sweet Peppers is still our go-to when we're craving delicious Caribbean food.

Bonfire was not the first choice for dinner last night. We were headed to another restaurant but…read morethat place had an hour and a half wait. We were hungry so we decided on Bonfire. When we arrived at Bonfire me and my date were the only ones there. I have no idea how long it had been open but it looked brand new. The atmosphere was very pleasant. I loved the lighting fixtures and the design of the seating area. There was also a dj that added to the atmosphere. Bonfire being a Jamaican restaurant I thought it apt to order the Jerk Chicken. You get 2 sides with the entree. I ordered the mac and cheese and french fries. My date got the catfish along with the potato salad and french fries. I was eager to dig in when the food came back. First off the fries were very crisp and fried to perfection. The mac and cheese was delicious. It was some of the best I've had at a restaurant in a long time. The jerk chicken was absolutely amazing. It came with the jerk sauce on the side. Honestly, I really didn't need it. The chicken had a delicious smoked flavor. It tasted like chicken you'd eat at a summer bbq. I can not say enough about the jerk chicken. I tasted the catfish my date ordered and it was really good too. I really would love to come back here and try more things.

They charge $4 for drinks like tea, and I had to ask for a refill despite it being obviously empty. I had jerk chicken ($16.75) and it was very flavorful and tender, but they hack up a leg and thigh with a cleaver so you have to pick through a lot of bone and there wasn't all that much meat. For the sides I had potato salad which looked like it came from a plastic tub at the grocery store, but the plantains were very good. Total of everything plus a drink and tip was over $26 - for lunch! Overall, I don't think it's worth the price. The inside was very nice and clean but the place was pretty empty at noon on a weekday.

However, the overall portion size for the chicken felt a bit small for the price point. Sides: The rice and peas (beans) paired with the added curry sauce made for a unique and enjoyable flavor combination. Meanwhile, the collard greens came in an exceptionally generous portion. Overall, a solid plate with fantastic flavors and sides--just hoping for a slightly larger portion of chicken next time!

It is truly worth the 30+ minute drive because the authentic Puerto Rican flavor is undeniable. The ambience gives real Boricuan vibes. I sent a photo of my Medalla to some friends in the island and they really thought I was in PR. The roadside stand feel hits you with that island realness the moment you step out of your vehicle. While this is an outdoor venue, they do have many seating options if you'd like to stick around and enjoy the music and the vibe. The food can also be taken to go and everything on the menu is fantastic. On my last visit, went with a Medalla (Puerto Rican beer), carne guisada (stewed meat), tostones (fried plantains), and my own personal all-time favorite: ensalada de pulpo (octopus salad). Everything was so delicious. I would eat every meal here if I could. Last but not least, the folks working here are the BEST. They're friendly and you can tell they love what they do and they put their heart and soul into this amazing food.

The jerk chicken came with rice & beans, cooked cabbage, and flat cornbread. I know that the latter two food items have other names, but I don't know that they are. I just know that they were tasty! I'll also say that they chose a great location to open. I always drive on Cody Rd S, and I will be sure to stop by more often. Lastly, because they are new, they seem to be working out some of their issues. Be sure to call ahead if you really want a specific dish. They were out of an appetizer and an entree when I called. Their credit card machine was also acting up, so you might want to bring cash as a backup. I am sure that they will work out these issues in the near future.
