I love a locally owned lawn and garden center so after driving past Jim Jenkins several times, I figured it was time to stop in. The location/parking lot can be tricky to get into and out of because Painters Run is a busy road, but there was a police officer there stopping traffic so that customers could get in or out. This place is slightly deceiving from the road. I thought it was just a small little garden shop and wasn't sure if I'd find the clay pots I was looking for. Holy cannoli was I wrong. This is the Energizer Bunny of lawn and garden stores. It just kept going and going and going and going. I found the clay pots and a whole lot more that I didn't have space (or budget) for. The prices are fairly reasonable, the pots I was looking for were $2.99 and the saucer was $1.99. I also found a decorative one that's rather unique compared to what you'd find at one of those "big box" stores for a mere $6.99. I thought I was done shopping until I saw the huge selection of pre-sprouted veggies and herbs. I poked around there for a good bit before reminding myself that I'd just be feeding the infamous deer of Mt. Lebanon and not myself if I purchased any. On my way to the cashier, I stopped to check out their variety of succulents that were potted in adorable little planters... realizing that the aforementioned deer would not eat these, I grabbed one for my patio and silently told myself that my work here was done. The total for my four items was $24 which I didn't think was bad at all. I love shopping local and this place is just awesome. They also have plenty of items that would be great for gift-giving.

Terrible, my neighbor wanted to take it back and dump it there. But I decided to post here and help others. Won't be going there again. If I could give them a negative review, I would have. Also bought topsoil at the same time, and it is even worse - full of sand, dust, and mostly clay.

Paul took the time to meet with us both, to show us several of the houses he has landscaped; to give us ideas. We weren't sure even where to start, we just told Paul that we wanted a variety of plants and colors. He brought his crew in and within 3 days they had all the old plants out and beautiful new plants in place. There were trees of all colors, as well as evergreens of all shapes and sizes. There is an amazing stone walkway from our garage to the back yard, with different types of plants flanking both sides. Well placed boulders along the stairs help set off the small plants and ornamental grasses on the hillside. We were unsure of having lights placed among the plants but decided to go ahead with them. Wow what a difference they make, so glad we did. We are amazed and in awe of the finished oasis of lights and plants we have in our backyard and around the pool. We can't give enough praise to Paul and McMurray Nursery for a job well done; product, price, and his crew all included.

As a novice gardener, I expect that buying local "perennials" means that these plants will in fact act as perennials in this zone. I now have to completely replan the entire perennial garden (as these were my anchor summer blooms). I don't think they intentionally mislead me, rather I don't think they were knowledgeable. As a novice, I'll be sticking with Martin's (which is overpriced, but part of what one pays for is the well educated botanist advice, the high quality plants, and the correct representation of local perennials).

Arcadia Natives nursery is an amazing place that is just a few years young, right outside Washington, PA, in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The plants are mostly hand grown on site by one woman, Kelly Strope, who fell in love with everything native and is providing the bones to recreate an ecosystem to replace our world gone wrong. If the creatures who are integral to our area can't find the food to survive and reproduce, we're in trouble. Kelly has lovingly grown the most beautiful plants you can purchase anywhere in the area. She has also created an easy to use library of downloadable and print ready plant cards for reference, besides an eagerness to answer any questions during your visit about starting or maintaining your gardening experience.
