A gem in La Mesa! After seeing this business recommended for years by the community I took my daughter's letterman's jacket in for patch sewing. I was greeted and helped immediately upon entering. The woman was so kind, taped off the areas I requested for the patch placement, wrote up order and receipt and told me it would be ready by opening the next day. This was such a time saver as they are just down the street and I didn't have to drive the sporting good store where we purchased the jacket. We are very pleased with the work, patches are exactly where we asked and look wonderful. The business is cash only and has a flat rate of $10 per patch sewn and $3 for the bars that go on the letter. Parking is tight as it's shared with the other businesses in the strip mall and are parallel spots in front of the doors. read more

Ruined my sweatshirt. The man at the register assured me that it would look good... that I'd "LOVE" it. He said it would be $60 to put a zipper in my sweatshirt and I knew that sounded steep, but it was worth it because of how much I loved the sweatshirt. Well, sadly... the sweatshirt is now unwearable. It's ruined. You can't even read the logo on it now. He should've told me that there's a chance that the logo wouldn't look right. I have been using Lena's for years for dry cleaning and a few alterations. I took them 2 cheap t-shirts yesterday to be shortened. Nothing fancy. $17 a piece! $34 to hem two shirts that combined cost me $24! They had a price list and there was a standard charge for shirts - no difference between a dress shirt and a T-shirt! When I questioned this, the two women just shrugged their shoulders. I have wanted to support this small business over the years, but not that much. They have lost my business! I found another business that acknowledged that they were only T-shirts and lowered their prices accordingly. I will use them going forward. read more

I found Lena's Alternations and I had my graduation stole embroidered with both of my degrees and class of 2026!!! The service was amazing, exactly what I was looking for. And for the price!? $50 for all three which is was cheaper than everywhere else. Also I was able to pick the font and size I wanted and there was not any surprises what it was going to look like. I can't say enough good things about Lena's! We first found them in 2015 when my sister was getting married. They turned our mom's wedding dress into my sister's "new to her" wedding dress and it was gorgeous! Fast forward 10-11 years and Lena's became our go-to alterations shop for all of my wedding events! Jose was quick, reasonably priced, and did incredible work on all of our dresses. He altered the length and straps of both of my shower dresses, adjusted the straps on my rehearsal dress, took in my rehearsal dinner dress and adjusted the straps, altered my matron and maid of honor dresses, and worked magic on my mom's mother of the bride dress! He also tailored my brother-in-law's groomsman suit. The turn around was always quick! Jose even went above and beyond and helped us know what to ask for when I took my wedding dress in to David's Bridal and helped us style my rehearsal dinner dress! A bit pricey, the strip mall its in has very few parking spaces. The gentleman, I believe his name is Jose was personable to me although reviews say otherwise. I paid $25 for a 3" pant hem, when I picked them up the pants wasn't even pressed. I asked like $25 for a hem & no press, he shrugged it off & simply replied yes. Cam in for bridesmaids dress alterations. Staff is super friendly and laid back. Very reminiscent of a bygone time. I was able to get everything done quickly. I haven't gone to the wedding yet so no photos to share. This is a cash only place so keep that in mind and prices aren't listed anywhere, there's also no receipt, but dry clean j g pink slips, if that's something you're concerned about. Very small parking lot. Lost one star because my dress wasn't steamed, which seams like a basic part of finishing alterations work, but I can steam it at home. Despite bringing it to their attention multiple times, my clothes come back with black lint on them, stains and broken buttons. They have a long turn around time, and there's nothing like getting dressed in another city to have your buttons disintegrate while fastening them. Jose is awesome. I stopped in today with a bit of an odd request. I have a mask that I need to wear for a conference in Las Vegas but the straps are too tight. One side is sewn into the mask and the other was not. I was trying to find a creative way to make the elastic a bit longer so I could comfortably wear it for the entirety of the conference. I came in expecting that it might not be an easy ask and/or I may have to leave it for a few days. Jose very kindly paused what he was doing and immediately came up with a way to make it just a bit longer so it fit comfortably. He also did this at a crazy reasonable cost. What a gem this spot is! We've came twice now: once to get my daughters prom dressed hemmed and once for a pair of my jeans to be repaired. They did an excellent job on my daughters dress. I was happy to see this business practicing social distancing and hygienic practices, there was hand sanitizer on the counter of the business and the business only allows one customer inside at a time as it is a small store.
