The service was very good and our waiter both friendly and quick to keep those beer glasses filled, which we like. We were served some of the best tapas I have tasted in a long time, completely void of oily sausages and over spiced meat balls. Our mixture of scallops, hare, fish, veil and mussels were prepared to tasty perfection, without leaving us with that classical "oil and sause everywhere" feeling that tend to follow the tapas experience, at least here in Norway. I almost felt like I was eating healthy, and I mean that in the best possible way, not the "carrot and dry celery" kind of way. We visited on a Thuesday, so the place weren't busy and the atmosphere was very quiet. Still, we liked the interior, and the layout of the tables made us feel quite secluded from other parties, which is a good thing when you're a Norwegian and prefer to mingle only with the people that you came with. With Escalón, I might just have found my favorite tapas place in Oslo.

Habanero is a cozy little corner mexican joint that we had heard some good things about, we gave it a try later on a Sunday evening. We sat in a comfy booth in the back and perused the small but varied menu. Our waitress was kind, and patient with us as we don't speak Norwegian. We ended up ordering chips and salsa to start and the beef fajitas to share. The chips and salsa weren't what we expected... with our American mindset we expected some chips, with salsa to dip. We actually got a bowl of nachos essentially, which was really tasty. There are also nachos on the menu, I'd be curious to order those next time to see what comes out. The beef fajitas were lightly spiced, not the sizzling kind, but well seasoned an marinated, mixed with onions and peppers. They came with a generous plate of toppings that included salad, guac, hot sauce, salsa, pico, beans and some shredded cheese. They also offered to bring more tortillas. The beef fajitas were like NOK260 per person, 2 person min is required FYI. Chicken was I think NOK229. So the food was quite good, and you wonder why three stars? Once our meal was complete it took a good 40 minutes for us to get our left overs boxed up, get our check, and be able to pay. They got a bit busy toward the end so I thing we got a bit forgotten. This won't stop us from coming in again though and shouldn't stop you either, just don't be rushed, be happy to chill and take your time.

I had expected the level of the food to be somewhat below the tapas restauarnts in Palma, Mallorca, which I visited recently and was much impressed with, but Delicatessen really surprised me with dishes just as good, if not even better than what I have tasted in Spain. My favourite dish was the fried artichoke hearts with saffron orange aioli - I would come back just for this one dish. The homemade sausages with lemony quinoa were also excellent, and the chorizo and manchego tortilla was the fluffiest omelette I have ever eaten. The croquetas (not really a dish, but a snack of two small pieces with dipping sauce) were also superb. The meatballs in tomato sauce was the least exciting dish, but still good. Delicatessen is, not surprisingly given it's location, a fairly expensive place, but you still get your money's worth of good food prepared from quality ingredients - I would definitely like to come back.
