Initially I was intimidated and whatever about this place because of the location, but this speakeasy joint was poppin' once we stepped in! Boy, was I wrong about this place. My life is forever changed because of Kinly Bar. Here's why: I don't really drink/enjoy alcohol and am more of a beer person when there is a choice between beers or cocktails. You're probably like, wtf why did she come here then? Well, my bf's cousin was raving about how amazing this place was, and recommended it, so we said alright, let's try it. For someone who doesn't even drink alcohol that often to give this place a 5 star rating is huge, ok? When we entered, it was dark and really hard to find seating because it was packed, but we somehow managed to sit right in front of the bartender. When looking at the menu, I was indecisive and somewhat feeling at a loss because of the limited options and I genuinely had no interest in drinking cocktails. I'm pretty sure my bartender noticed that I was feeling iffy, and he took initiative, somehow *KNEW* what I would enjoy, and innovated some fancy drink JUST for me. I have no idea what he put in there, but I had a fancy bowl of something delicious, topped with a flower of some sort, and this drink is one that I will NEVER forget. To this day I still have not had another cocktail because nothing truly tops the one made just for me at Kinly. Thanks!

It looks closed from the outside and you have to use the doorbell to get in. The drinks are expensive, but good, and made well. I ordered off-menu since I wasn't really feeling anything on it. I really just wanted a nice old fashioned and after my long day, I was extremely satisfied with the one presented to me. The ice cubes are hand-cut, and whenever a bar combined a rocks glass, hand-cut ice, and some whiskey concoction, it's a take-my-money moment for me. The Kinly is my favorite bar in Frankfurt!

I must start this by saying that I have not had a cocktail here. I have simply ordered beer. If I…read moreever do go there to enjoy a cocktail, I will update this review accordingly. Frankfurters seem to love these little places along the Main. Why? Because there are hardly any of them. You go to many other places in Germany or Europe and they really utilize the shore of the river and have an abundance of cafes and bars and restaurants. Frankfurt does not (maybe it floods here frequently or something that I don't know about). So places like Main Cocktailbar are very popular during the warmer months amongst locals. I will start of by saying that the reason this place gets crap-all stars is because the service is horrendous. I think for everyone sitting in a chair outside of it (like 100 or so of us), there was one server. Most everyone acknowledges this and just goes to the tent itself. But stilllllllll.......... slow slow slow. Twenty minutes to grab a beer is quite ridiculous. With that being said, I am glad this place exists. I am not eager to run back over that way as I can cheaply just take a cooler and drink anywhere alongside the river, but every so often it is nice to pop by a place like this. It fills with cyclists, dogs, kids, and adults just having a great time. My dog even enjoyed himself there.

That said: there is a good reason for this secretiveness: 1) It's small and the atmosphere is private 2) The drinks are made with a great accuracy by masters of their art 3) It's for connaisseurs who worship good drinks The location is great for very small groups from 2 to 4. The atmosphere stimulates good conversations and at times you feel like a visionary from the 20s... Worth the experience!

Ambiance (4/5): You may have trouble finding this speakeasy if you don't do your research prior. It's located inside what looks like the entrance to an apartment. Walk in, press the buzzer, and the hostess will greet you. Once you get inside, it's dimly lit with old school charm. My only complaint. No A/C and uncomfortable chairs. Service (4/5): At a speakeasy, you expect elevated service. And it was good here. Our waiter answered our questions, made recommendations, and had a good sense of humor. When he was asked what a popular cocktail is in Germany, he said beer. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet, and I don't think they have food anyway. Drinks (4/5): They have a long list of craft cocktails which is a plus. What I look for at a speakeasy is creativity and an interesting blend of flavors. While some of the options on their menu are basic cocktails, there are some interesting ones, too. The one I had, while the name is escaping me, had a nice fruity and refreshing profile. One of the coolest bars I checked out in Frankfurt. Prost!
