We are in Custer State Park and stopped in to grab some lunch. This place is truly amazing. Even if you just grab a glass of wine or a cold beer or a chocolate shake, you're gonna love this place. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. This is a hidden gem.

We stopped here for dinner after a fun day at Custer State Park! I had the chicken fried steak and it was fantastic! The fresh veggies that came with it were delicious as well, and usually i'm not a big veggie guy. Lily got the chicken tenders with fries and they were perfect. We also loved the view and took a great hike around the lake, HIGHLY recommend! Only complaint is there were a lot of flies in the restaurant for some reason.

Bugs the first night we checked in. I cleaned them up but they kept coming back.

Meh. For $200 a night, I expected better. We arrived at 4 after driving all day and was told our cabin wasn't ready because of "Covid issues". Check in was supposed to be at 3 but whatever. We went and got dinner and came back about 90 minutes later and got our keys. Opened the door to find a teeny tiny cabin. Cute but definitely small for 4 people. The cabin had not been vacuumed because there were potato chip crumbs everywhere. No towels. I called down and was told all the towels were in the washing machine and someone would bring them later. They did come by about two hours later but only brought two towels. No washcloth, floor mat.... not the best situation for 4 people. The room had bugs. I get it that it's in a National park and I'm pretty forgiving. Lots of moths. Okay fine. But also flies, earwigs and a bunch of weird worms The general store is pretty much just an overpriced gift shop. The ladies working aren't super friendly but it is what it is. We ordered lunch from there (fried chicken to go) and it was such a debacle that we got the whole order for free (raw cookies, didn't have the two side dishes we ordered, was ready a half hour after it should have been although all the employees were standing Around doing nothing). The beach gets crowded real fast. It's tiny. No social distancing at all. Do not rent this cabin based on the beach unless you are totally comfortable being on top of other people you've never met who don't care about masks or 6 feet distance. At checkout, they were supposed to be open at 8 and didn't open til almost 830 which is annoying when you have other places to be. Overall, I wish we would have stayed in a hotel in town and just driven into the park each day. Would have been cheaper and probably a lot less bugs.

My husband and I took a trip through South Dakota's Custer State Park. After a long day and only the snacks we packed in the car, we happened to find this amazing restaurant and gift shop. What an amazing view! The restaurant has a beautiful dining area with floor to ceiling windows or an outdoor patio area that overlooks the lake and rock terrain. As Californians not used to bugs, we chose to sit inside. The restaurant has a great menu with choice ingredients. The prices are very reasonable and affordable. A five star menu with two star prices. The staff was also on point and provided excellent service. After our meal, we visited the large gift shop and stocked up on souvenirs. The shop is clean and has a large variety of gifts from magnets to clothing and kids souvenirs to local art finds. I believe the shop also sold bait and other camping necessities. This lodge around a bend in the road was a great surprise for hungry travelers wanting something more than a greasy burger and fries.

Not quite. Me and my family stopped for dinner at the cafe. There were two good things: the view was amazing and the staff was very friendly. The food took its time and it wasn't even very good. The food was also very very expensive.

Legion Lake. Deck and patio next to shops!

It took over 30 minutes to get our 4 pieces of fried chicken with mashed potatoes. What a waste of time.

The property is beautiful and very well maintained, and the staff is wonderful. You can tell they genuinely enjoy their jobs, which makes the whole experience even more pleasant. Check-in was quick and easy. The rooms are a bit outdated in style, but they are very clean and comfortable. I do wish the bathroom had been a little larger and that it didn't have a shower curtain instead of a glass door. Housekeeping is not provided daily, but you can request fresh linens and amenities each day, and they will be delivered to your room. Overall, it's fairly priced, great for families, with plenty of parking and lots of nearby services. I would definitely recommend it for anyone visiting the area.

Whether you are a retired couple, family, or young honeymooners- this place is a great place to stay in Custer. The staff was so friendly. There were so many family-centered activities to be outside and enjoy and we tried to take advantage of all of It! Outdoor and indoor pools, a full wall of board and card games and books, an outdoor fire pit setting to enjoy, chalk and jump ropes, a nice outdoor walking trail in nature, ball courts with balls. Our absolute favorite was ordering the cookies and milk bedtime delivery. This was something we could surprise our little kids with that they thought was so magical. Thank you for helping us build such special family memories!!

One of the best parts is the location -- only about 30 minutes from Mount Rushmore, which made it easy to explore the area without a long drive. The hotel had a few nice touches we appreciated, especially the outdoor patio and the clean-looking pool and jacuzzi area. Breakfast was decent as well and worked perfectly before heading back on the road. The biggest downside is that some parts of the property feel dated. The carpet in the hallways and elevator areas is pretty worn out and could really use replacing because it affects the overall impression of the hotel. We also had an issue with the refrigerator in room 308 constantly making noise through the night, which wasn't ideal for sleeping. Still, the room itself was comfortable enough, and considering the location and price, it's a solid option for a short stay -- just with a few overdue updates needed.

Relatively large hotel, with a good size pool although there seems to be a lot of kids all the time so not possible to swim. Room is a good size with either view of the road in front or trees in back. We had a room with 2 queens. Clean, comfy bed and good bedding and pillows. There is a fridge and microwave, although no real cups to use in it unless you bring your own. Bathroom is quite spacious with shower over tub. Hot water takes a while to flow but once it comes it's a good strong shower. Room also had a table and two regular chairs. Wi-Fi a bit weak. Relatively large hotel, breakfast room quite big but can get crowded around 8. Included breakfast with Eggs and bacon, oatmeal, yogurt, apples and bananas, basic and average as expected for this class of accommodation. Compare to other places this one has a lot more children maybe due to the area attractions.

Having previously stayed at The Bavarian Inn just up the road, we reached out to discover that they, among others, were closed. This location features four private units with ensuite bathrooms and a common courtyard. Parking is curbside and you're just one block off the main strip, making the location very walkable. The units themselves are wonderful. There were a few issues...but they were manageable since I wasn't staying in the room alone. Trouble 1) When showering, you can't reach the shower controls while sitting on the shower bench. I keep seeing this in hotels, I'm not sure what they expect you to do. Most people who need a shower bench can't stand up and get the controls! Trouble 2) Tiny little closet rod, difficult to get to behind the table & chairs (and the bathroom door). It's low, to make it an accessible height, but so difficult to reach that it was almost not worth even trying! Trouble 3) Table and chairs in the room would be nice if we were cooking in our room & such, but since we weren't they were really just in the way. The table was too small to pull under when in a wheelchair anyway. Their location meant that I couldn't reach the kitchenette area anyway. If I'd been staying alone I'm not sure how I would have handled the shower, and I would have requested that staff remove the table & chairs. Just thought I'd warn other wheelchair users so they can make an informed decision. The bed was adequately comfortable, water pressure was great, the room a little noisy due to the proximity of the ice-room & the parking lot. Overall - could have been better, but could have been much worse - at least i was able to get in and out! :)
