My dad used to go here when he was my age. My sister and I used to go here when I was in middle school...I got all the way to purple belt. I don't really remember why I stopped going other than that I started high school. But seeing my sister do it makes me wanna come back. This is 3 generations . Today I went to see my little sister who is 6 take a class. She loves it! She was singing in the car on the way there "I get to go to karate...". She's got her uniform and was counting in Korean today. The instructors are fun. It teaches discipline and it's great for staying in shape and it's self-defense. read more

These people are absolutely amazing with the kids. We have moved further away but still continue to bring our daughter there because she loves it. They also have adult class at 7pm Monday's and Wednesday's. I absolutely recommend this place. No contract and reasonably priced. Love them! read more

I've been looking for a low cost class to attend for exercise and I stumbled upon this place via Google. I checked out there schedule and saw they had a women's kickboxing class Tuesday and Thursday nights for only $5/class. Fast forward 6 procrastinating months.... I came last Tuesday night for the women's boot camp class (it's now just Tuesday nights) and I loved it. It's Thursday and me legs are still sore! It's exactly what I needed. The studio itself is owned by a very friendly couple. The instructor is great. She's this petite little woman, who I immediately knew was way stronger than she looked. She kept the class fun and upbeat even when we were taking our necessary breaks. The class is on Tuesday nights from 8-9 pm and costs $10/class or if you bring a friend it's 2 for $15. I highly reccommend this for a low cost, great total body workout. read more

This is a wonderful school teaching the art of Taekwondo. We signed our daughter up there last year and she absolutely loves it! I can't emphasize enough how GREAT Master Amy is! She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, a great taekwondo teacher and no matter how many children are in her class she takes the time everyday to speak with each and everyone of them not just to instruct/teach but as someone who truly cares about her students. She always makes time to speak to all the parents and let's us know how are child is doing. This is truly a gem and it's made possible by Master Amy and Master Dave. If you are looking for a martial arts school that takes the time to care for child, show them the art and discipline of taekwondo and provide a family atmosphere, look no further than Legacy. After being a student at legacy tae kwon do for more that 8 years, its easy for me to say that this has been one of the best experiences I've had. Ami and Dave are wonderful! I started taking classes here with my brother thinking about trying tae kwon do, and we've loved it ever since! Ami and Dave taught us not only how to defend ourselves, but how to be kind and respectful and we've met so many new friends and teammates here. I'm so lucky to have found this place and be a part of the legacy tae kwon do family! Legacy Tae Kwon Do is more than just a Martial Arts school. They teach discipline, respect, morals and of course Tae Kwon Do. Masters Ami and David truly care about each and every one of their students and take the time to check in with each of them individually. Their love of the sport is apparent and shines through. Since Yelp doesn't allow my wife to respond to the owner's reply, I felt we needed to elaborate. First, we take offense to the owner stating that her review is inaccurate. Our daughter does not ever use profanity, nor were we ever notified that she had done so while under the care and supervision of Legacy Tae Kwon Do. We were, however, told that our daughter had repeated something another child had said - specifically a boy who has been known to say inappropriate things, but what was said was, while inappropriate, far from profane. Second, our child is not a bully. She has been enrolled in other after-school and camp-type programs and has never been labeled as such. In this situation, David Hyde (the owner) admitted to us that he had told his counselors to watch our child from as early as the 2nd day of camp. This initially and unfairly singled out our child, which upset her greatly. Here is another example of our child being singled out and treated differently: our daughter is nearly 7 years old and was included in the 5-6-year-old children's group. The excuse that she was made to hold a counselor's hand due to her being "younger" does not hold much ground. At nearly 7 years old, our daughter should have been able to hold the hand of a camp-mate rather than being treated as if she were far younger and immature. While we appreciate Legacy Tae Kwon Do being gracious enough to return the fees for the portion of summer camp that our daughter did not attend, it was the absolute least they could do. We enrolled our child in this camp so that she could continue to build upon the structure and guidance she receives at home and in school. Our child has never had behavioral problems and the owner of this facility asking her not to return speaks to their inefficiencies more than it does to our young daughter's behavior. We also need to address the owner's statement that he had difficulty concentrating on writing our refund check because my wife was "confronting staff members". Once again, Legacy Tae Kwon Do would rather place the blame on someone else rather than taking responsibility for their actions. What occurred, was that while she was waiting to speak with the owner (for over 10 minutes with our 9-month-old daughter in tow), my wife asked a staff member if she had perceived any problems with our child. The staff member responded that no, she did not see any problems with our child, that our child was very sweet, and then quickly let my wife know that she had been asked not to converse with her. When my wife was finally greeted by the owner, she was asked if she would like to talk to any of the counselors. She responded that she would just like to be done with this and leave as it was extremely noisy (too loud for our baby's ears), overcrowded, and with no privacy so that she was unable to speak with anyone in confidence. Other than her brief conversation with a staff member prior to his arrival, she spoke to no one other than David Hyde (the owner). I understand Mr. Hyde wanting to promote his business, but I am confident that those reading the reviews can clearly see that the majority of reviews are outdated. In fact, ours are the only reviews this year. As staff turnaround is common in facilities such as this one, current reviews are the hallmark of a reputable business with proven business practices and satisfied customers. In closing, I feel that the owner is a black belt who singled out and bullied our child and made our daughter fearful of trying Tae Kwon Do at any facility, based on her experience with Legacy Tae Kwon Do. I am disgusted and hurt that someone who claims to be a professional in the business of guiding and enriching the lives of children would act in such an unprofessional manner, and to the detriment of our child's self-esteem because she felt picked on by the "adults". read more

Looking for a place where your child will receive a great workout, build his or her confidence, learn respect and discipline, and be trained by true professionals who care about each and every one of their students? Well then, Legacy Tae Kwon Do is the school for you! Why Legacy Tae Kwon Do over other schools? It is the personal touch, and the family atmosphere. The couple that owns the place are married to one another, and if you prod them enough, you find out that they actually met each other when they both in the middle of their training- kind of adorable if you think about it. One of the owners is even a practicing Dr. of Physical Therapy, which is especially nice to have someone like that on the staff. The school has been open almost fourteen years now, and one things still remains the same- the dedication of these two owners. When you join Legacy Tae Kwon Do, you are not just enrolling in a martial arts school, but you are entering a family. There are classes Mondays-Friday and also Saturday mornings. The classes range in the amount of time- a half hour dedicated to pee-wees (3-4 year olds, yikes!); 45 minutes for older children, and an hour for teenagers and adults. Sparring classes are held on Thursday nights, and on Friday nights, there is a family class in which parents can take a class with their children at no additional cost- emphasizing the family atmosphere. Students have competed in various tournaments, and have also performed in local talent shows. There is a demo team that also goes around performing at different events. The masters have also taught classes to varieties of groups such as Girl Scouts and after school clubs. The owners are willing to travel to provide after-school demos or exercise classes which is pretty nice. Legacy TKD also offers birthday parties, which are normally scheduled for Saturday afternoons. On Tuesday and Thursday nights, as well as some Saturdays, there are $5.00 fitness classes that range from Zumba (certified instructor) to Boot Camp Training to Punk Rope (certified instructor). These classes provided a great workout, and the instructor is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. During different times of the year, there are also 90-day fitness challenges for prizes. Although this program may not have as big a following as the tae kwon do program does, it seems to be off to a decent start, and has the potential to grow. Having been part of the Legacy Tae Kwon Do family for over five years, I must say that I find the classes still challenging and engaging, and they provide a great workout. The five dollar fitness classes are definitely worth it too and I wish I had more time so I could be at them more. Yet, as stated earlier, my favorite part of Legacy Tae Kwon Do is the family atmosphere. The fact that everyone is friendly to one another, and that we even have get togethers during different holidays is wonderful. I highly recommend this place for your child, or for yourself! read more

This school is Great! My son has been going here for 6 years and he has learned so much. Master Amy and Master Hyde are wonderful with the students. They not only helped my son progress in Martial Arts but also with his thinking skills, focus and behavior. It helps him with his studies and home etiquette. They also offer Adult lessons and fitness classes. I highly recommend Legacy Tae Kwon Do in Lodi, NJ to anyone looking for an extra curricula activity, fitness and skills for themselves or their children. read more

I signed up my daughter for, what is advertised as, "Lodi's best summer Camp". I was under the impression that being a Tae Kwon Do studio, it was primarily going to be Tae Kwon Do along with dance, sports, and arts and crafts. Within the first 2 days, I was told that my daughter was not listening and that THIS WAS HER FIRST STRIKE. Now I understand that shes 6 and not perfect but isn't Tae Kwon Do supposed to teach discipline? Needless to say, the owner told me that after day 2 he instructed all of the counselors to "keep an eye on" my daughter daily to the point where my daughter was singled out and was forced to hold counselors hands instead of her peers which made her feel singled out. This poor kid, at 6 years old, came home crying every day and was eventually asked "not to come back" after only 7 full days there. I was happy to take her out because it was loud, extremely overcrowded, and both myself and my daughter felt that she was being singled out and she was not being taught what was expected at this camp. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Even upon exiting, I was not given, what I felt, was a proper refund, and the owner wrote the wrong amount on the check (the written words did not match the numbers) so the bank said they had honor the written word when cashing the check, shorting me even more money. This experience was such a disappointment for both my daughter and I. She had been looking forward to learning Tae Kwon Do and dance. Don't waste your money on an overcrowded, extremely loud, unprofessional place with shady business practices. read more
