My brother John Skubie was a patient at Mount Alverna Village in Parma, OH from early March 2024…read moreuntil his death on November 18, 2024. He was diagnosed with vascular dimentia which caused him to be bedridden. I visited 8 assisted living/Nursing Homes before I decided on Mount Alverna. I picked Mount Alverna because it was close to my home, it was non-profit and it was Catholic. I want to thank everyone at Mount Alverna for the care and kindness he received. The journey my brother and I traveled during this time was very difficult but made easier by the patience and understanding that the staff showed my brother. I couldn't have made a better choice selecting Mount Alverna. I am grateful that my brother was treated with respect and dignity during his final day. Thank you.

The RN who was responsible excuse claims staff shortage due to covid was to blame. I feel she saw the problem and did not help and get her hands dirty and piches in. This attitude seems consistent with Alverna. Upper staff feel to special to sometimes to help. Ask questions before you send your family there, like what happens ancillary staff is short. They will give some bull of course but if it sounds like some generic answer be suspect. Investigate further. Okay, I wish I did. Get to know someone who has worked there. Maybe might get the truth. I can tell you now just stay away from this place.

I cannot recommend this place for several reasons…read more First and foremost, the administration staff seems to be quite rude and appears to prioritize the facility's financial gain over the well-being of the residents. Additionally, the nurses often fail to follow through with their commitments, which is quite disheartening. Another issue is the alarming turnover rate among the aides. It is not uncommon to see an aide one week and then have them disappear the next. This lack of consistency can be very unsettling for the residents. There was an incident where a resident fell and the staff left them laying there for hours until a nurse came to assess them. This kind of negligence is simply unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the safety of the residents. Moreover, the cleanliness standards of the resident's rooms leave much to be desired. There have been instances where residents have gone days without having their clothes changed or being showered. Ultimately, it seems that the facility is more interested in making money than caring for the residents.

The Athenian was the second place we visited, and we quickly realized our search was over. It doesn't have that "hospital" or "institution" vibe at all. Rather, the dining room feels more like a family restaurant. The food is excellent, with a daily menu. My Mom, who is a very picky eater loves the fact that there is always an alternate menu selection. She really loves ice cream, too! Their little apartment is amazing, complete with a small kitchenette. Athenian Village is clean and well maintained. The best part is the team, led by owner Ed Gates is professional, friendly and treats their residents like family. We have been caught up in the bureaucracy of filing for Medicaid for Mom and Veteran's Assistance for Dad for almost two years now. Mr. Gates has been patient, kind and informative as we are navigating these difficult roads. His leadership team includes Rita, Director of Nursing and Administrative Assistant Kathleen. Both of these ladies are outstanding and we look forward to seeing them each time we visit. Mom and Dad love when Nurse Practitioner Denise visits, and receive outstanding medical care from Nurses Jackie, Amy and Theresa. We are so grateful to have found the Athenian Village. If you are looking for quality care for your loved one, look no further! Thanks, Ed and team.

The aide staff is attentive and well-trained, the nursing staff is kind and patient, and the therapy staff is just off the charts. I actually was a good worker and doing right by the residents and I knew I needed more work I'm going to take my test soon so I went in and worked the Stna side for 3 days and was left alone .. on the Stna side it was so busy so hectic and just a horrible experience for me being this being the first job since my schooling it was my first time being in that field and they made it seem like they would help and they didn't . They kind of like just horrible and the following morning of me getting off super late I did 11pm7am I had to finish charting which I still haven't been fully taught the way to do it just copy what everyone else do and if there isn't anything then just mark something cause they don't want the nurses giving them poop medicine and stuff like that anywho I had a full hall alone and I managed to get every room but 3 and I let the worker know who came in after me cause she started working on the floor while I was still on the floor at 7:30 I was doing my trash and linen and I let her know about the 3 rooms I didn't get soon as I got home mind you I stay 5 minutes from here Kim called me and asked why'd I leave the rooms the way I did and they still have missing documents from me I answered honestly like how I was told by all the other workers if it's past your shift the other person comes in you let them know everything that you didn't get to touch and you go and I basically told which I have every conversation on record . I literally told her like it was past my shift I tried to hurry and finish chatting I only had 3 rooms left I let her know and she literally said yea where not gonna need you for this position anymore and I said that's fine contacted my lawyer immediately for being wrongfully terminated. Still in the process but whether it can get pushed forward or not I WOULDNT RECOMMEND! To live or to work because truthfully they just need someone who gonna do there job for them they had a whole Stna on the assisted living side while I was working on the stna side because she needed a break knowing I wasn't even fully certified or even hired in as a stna I was hired as assisted living for 11pm-7am and within 2 weeks they fired me and blamed it on lack of work when any job I've ever worked at can tell you I have the energy of a lightning bolt and i am great worker! I'm not at a knew job assisted living and they are great they actually train you ! And don't tell you your doing a good job just to call the next day and fire you !
