We first went to Suna Lee Photography because our musician son needed professional portraits. From start to finish, Suna and her staff operated with the highest levels of professionalism, courtesy and artistry. We came to truly appreciate Suna's long-term approach -- she believes in a real relationship with her clients, which has been repeatedly demonstrated since our son's sitting. There were no surprises at any point in the process. Suna went over pricing during the initial phone call, again in our first meeting with her, and then once more when we previewed the photos. She walked us through all the various ways we would be able to purchase photos from her studio, including showing us high-quality samples of each. We left that consultation meeting with a printed price list, which enabled us to plan how we could buy the images we needed at a cost we could afford. We view these images as an investment, both in our son's music career, and as family heirlooms that will be passed along for years to come. Suna's preparation for the sitting was first-rate. It started in that first phone call, and carried over into the consultation. She took the time to understand who our son was, and how she could photograph him. She interviewed us parents, looked at our attempts to photograph him, and reviewed comparison photos we'd found on the Internet. She even watched videos of him performing before the sitting. The result surpassed our expectations. Suna didn't just get a good-looking photograph, she showed his love for music and the instrument he plays. It was if she'd peeked into his rehearsal room and captured a private moment. She handled the lighting challenge presented by his big, reflective instrument with a master's touch. One area of disappointment: We're in the planning stages of another portrait, but our family's schedule has made it difficult. We're disappointed we haven't made it back to Suna's studio...yet. read more

I had photos taken here and was happy with the result of the photos. Yes, the photos were very expensive which I got in a really nice bound book. I didn't really do my homework prior to getting the photos taken, so I didn't know at the time whether or not Suna Lee was more expensive than the norm. In hindsight, I think she is much more expensive than other photographers. However, what I did not expect when I came back a year later, is the exorbitant prices to get my photos turned into framed photos for the wall. What came as an even bigger shock is that I didn't own any of the photos taken of me! I couldn't any of the photos that I paid a session fee for....and spent thousands of dollars for a bound book for after my initial session. The only thing she was wiling to do was give me a CD with lo-res versions of a few of my photos which were impossible to print or blow up. So, basically, I can't use any of my photos from the session I paid for unless I pay to get them printed and touched up through Suna. Which is ridiculously expensive. I suppose it is my fault for not reading the fine print. But, having worked with photographers in the past for work, I didn't expect that I wouldn't own ANY of my photos from the session. Normally, from my past experience you get a few to keep. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I am just so disappointed that I can't have any of my photos, and more disappointed in myself that I didn't realize this originally scheduling my session. Suna is what I would call a people whisperer. I despise having my photo taken and I have a reputation for being very awkward in photos and rigid; just generally un-photogenic. I was dreading having my photo taken, but when I arrived in her studio, Suna touched up my make up, and without being obvious, her tone and kindness calmed me. She put me in a very Zen state and guided me through the process. I felt relaxed, comfortable and supported. Rather than feeling stressed, awkward and uncomfortable, I felt as though I had just meditated. Suna is truly an artist. Very few shots had to be taken because she knew immediately just the right angle to complement my face and then she modeled for me how to sit and pose. As for pricing, before the session, she sat with me personally and reviewed her pricing brochure so that I would understand the total package. This experience is indeed an investment and a lifetime treasure, akin to having your portrait painted. This is not like going to just any portrait studio, but you will have a work of art when you are finished and not just a photo. read more

The prices, the prices, the prices... We had a baby in January and wanted to get some nice photos of the birth. By chance, we received a $500 gift certificate from our friends for Suna Lee. Suna Lee is very nice, but direct. She clearly knows her craft and is very professional. She contacts you many different times to schedule and confirm times. We were there for 3 hours taking every possible photo I could ever imagine. The process itself took about a couple of months from beginning to end. It was a little longer than anticipated, but I understand that professional quality photography is not the same as getting your photos printed at the local CVS. The prices... The sitting cost $375, but we were required to pay a $500 deposit down at the sitting. Again, this completely makes sense because as a photographer, you wouldn't want someone to take up 3 hours of your time to then not buy anything. The 1 photo she worked on came out great. She even gave us an additional photo for free. Overall though, I just wish we could have ordered more photos. Suna does not allow any of her photos to be given out, so out of 400 + photos taken over 3 hours, we only have 1. Granted it is a top notch quality photo, but I wanted a series of 3 photos. This would have cost well more than we wanted to spend. The bottom line is with cameras seemingly on every device, It's very difficult justifying spending over $1000 on just one photo. I wish her photos had been cheaper. I am not knocking the quality, just the quantity. If you just want 1 amazing photo, this place would be great. However, I will unfortunately not be going back. I have read with interest and astonishment the scathing review submitted by skaparna M. concerning Suna Lee and Lee's photography. To escalate what appears to be some unresolved issues between Suna Lee and skaparna M. to this level of criticism makes one suspicious of the motivation. I too have been a client of Suna Lee's. I write books. I needed a photograph to use on the dust covers of my hardback books. Suna Lee came highly recommended to me; and so I hired her. My experience with Suna Lee and her staff was that they were very efficient, completely professional, and produced outstanding work. Her fees for services were well within the standard of someone with her credentials. To write a "bad review " of this type by skaparna M., without considering the financial damage it might cause to Suna Lee, might be considered by many completely reckless. Time will tell. To accuse somebody publicly, in writing, on the Internet, of two counts of forgery, which is a very serious crime, is something that probably should not be done without carefully considering the possible future repercussions to the accuser. Perhaps after a "cooling off" period of time has passed, this review will be withdrawn completely, or greatly modified, by skaparna M. No matter what happens between these two parties, I hereby give Suna Lee, and her staff, my unequivocal recommendation as being outstanding! I have known Suna Lee and her crew since 2007. My family had a life altering experience and we knew that we wanted to mark the recovery with an up to date family portrait. The session was amazing! When we came back for our viewing we were blown away by how amazing her work is. This isn't your average photographer, this is an artist with a camera. We cried through our entire viewing. Suna figures your dynamics out and captures it. We love her so much that we went back to her when my husband and I started our own family. Went for maternity photos not long ago. Although I thought the session was draining and I was dragged along by my wife, the end results were pretty amazing. The old saying, "you get what you pay for" definitely applies. Although not cheap compared to some of the other places we checked, you can clearly see the quality and we get lots of comments on our wall photos by house guests. I would recommend. read more

I hired Suna Lee photography for my maternity pictures and I had a very good experince since the first meeting with Suna. She was very professional about her work as well as very friendly. I have read articles about Suna Lee's Photography in Washington post and other newspapers and I have been wanting a portrait for some time. I have co-jointly published several books in recent years and another book is scheduled to be published in December. So, in June, I went to Suna Lee's Photography for a portrait to use in the future books as well as for the webpage. When I arrived for the photo session, Suna took me to her preparation room and fixed my hair and applied facial touch-ups to eliminate shiny spots. The photo session took about an hour with three different outfits and background. During the session she guided me through posing, including head, hand, and overall postures. She also put me at ease by making funny gestures or jokes. She was no doubt a true professional photographer. In addition, it was just amazing how she and her assistant worked together for the correct lighting and creating dynamic surroundings. I went in for the photo viewing and selection two weeks later. This also took about an hour to view about 100 photos and this was done at three stages: photos by outfit category; photos by similar poses; final favorite photos. I was awed by this process and realized how much work truly goes into creating a photo of lifetime treasure. I selected 4 beautiful photos. I had Suna print and frame my favorite one, which turned out stunningly gorgeous. I also received 4 final photos on a CD which can be used for web posting and future books. I am absolutely happy that I went to her and was amazed with her work. I am truly grateful that I have a portrait that I can enjoy lifetime and pass on to my children. Because she produced a timeless artwork, I hope to have my husband and children's family portraits done someday soon. My wife and I went to Suna Lee Photography to have family portraits taken for our daughter's first birthday. It was a wonderful experience from the start as we were made to feel very comfortable, even with the difficult task of managing a 10-month old. Extremely poor experience. Like the other 2 reviews, the services are overpriced. To be able to get 4 pictures it will cost minimum $5000-$6000. Work is not exceptional at all. The prices need to be decided prior to session. Everything is overinflated and hidden prices. Not accomodating at all. We recently returned from Suna Lee's studio where we picked up a portrait of our youngest daughter. For the past 13 years, we have worked with Suna, who has always demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and expertise. She has photographed all of our children. Through her pictures, she has created, for us, more than just images of our children; she has captured the story of our lives. Every time I look at the pictures, I am reminded of the love, hope and joy I felt with each child. And though they are older now, and have lives of their own, I can walk around the house and gaze upon their faces as they look at me from the walls and instantly feel everything once again. I received a gift certificate for a "pet photo session" at Lee's Photography, worth $384. My family has 2 dogs, and I thought it would be fun to give our daughter a photo of them. Suna told me at our "consult" that pet photography is one of her specialties. When I brought the dogs to the studio for the photo session I was surprised that she didn't have one squeaky toy on hand to get their attention. She had no toys at all. Suna decided to take photos of me at the outset even though I made it clear that all I wanted was a photo of my pets. This wasted time. Getting the dogs' photos was not easy, as they were experiencing something new, the floor surface was slippery, and Suna clearly struggled with the challenge of photographing two animals. Later I returned to view her photos - more than 200 images. This third get-together is where wily Suna is at her best. She asks if you're comfortable, offers tea, and the show begins. A row of images rolls across a screen, and soft music kicks in. I saw dogs; Suna saw dollars. "I can make an album for you," she suggested. I had already paid a $500 deposit, and knew that I could only afford one photo. When I made my choice, Suna explained the various "finishes" that are applied to the photo; this added cost can be as much as $230 and is often higher. I ended up paying Lee's Photography $730 for an 8" square photograph of two dogs, only one of which is looking directly at the camera. Perhaps if Suna had thought to purchase a $4 squeaky toy for her pet photo business BOTH dogs would have looked her way, but we will never know. If I had not been given a gift certificate for the photo session, this image would have cost me $1,114! Think about that! And then think about this: Every person in my family, using their smart phone, has taken better photos of our pets. read more

There are some events that come along in your life where ordinary pictures won't do. We had just such a special day and turned to Lee's Photography to commemorate the special occasion. We were not disappointed. The day before the photography session, Ms. Lee called to discuss wardrobe choices, makeup, etc., to insure that the session would proceed smoothly. The photography session lasted for more than 90 minutes and we were very impressed with the knowledge and creativity that Ms. Lee demonstrated. When we went back to see the proofs, we were not disappointed. Ms. Lee had taken almost 300 images, had downselected them to 175, and had done editing, touch up, and other artistic work on about 100 of these. When I describe her work as that of an artist, I do not exaggerate. The amount of work, artist's judgment and sensibility in composition, lighting, etc., and the technical expertise that the portraits revealed were nothing short of amazing. I have never seen a photograph bring out so much of the life and personality of its subject as I did in Ms. Lee's portraits. We spent an hour and a half with Ms. Lee reviewing and discussing the pictures she had taken and were frequently left speechless by the quality and artistry of her work. While Lee's Photography is not inexpensive, in exchange for what you are paying you are getting a work of art that features your loved one -- and it is truly a work of art. There are many occasions when snapshots and mall photography are fine and we've relied on them for years. But in trying to compare those pictures to the portraits done by Ms. Lee, there simply is no comparison. Ms. Lee is a professional and an artist, and her work demonstrates both. She also runs her business as a professional -- discussing the costs of the sessions and pictures up front so that you know what you will be paying based on what you are looking for. When the best is what we need, we will use Ms. Lee again without hesitation. read more
