I took my vehicle in for diagnostics of brakes, a loud noise I hear when driving, and the air conditioning. As soon as I stepped inside the door, this man immediately started talking (almost non-stop) about the vehicle. He never introduced himself but reprimanded me for using the parking brake when the vehicle is parked. Although I'm not a mechanic (and I seriously question his credentials...I asked for some but never received the information), I wonder when the park brake should be engaged? He said I should only use it in an emergency situation. What???
In hindsight, I am sorry that I left my auto. I received a voicemail to inform me that the repair would be 400+ dollars. There were no details provided, so I returned the call, questioned him about the price and repairs, was never told what parts were going to be ordered, was informed that, "These vehicles are expensive to fix." This was all done in a loud, non-stop lecture. I finally had to completely interrupt to be heard. When I asked again about the price, the reply was, "Yeah, so?" I wanted to know the specific parts and exact repairs. I was never told, even when I asked again at pick-up.
Unprofessional is the nicest way I can describe the treatment I received. It surprises me that someone who is supposed to provide a service can behave in such a horrible manner. There are lots of other mechanics who will treat their customers with concern and respect. If you ever feel uneasy about leaving your auto, trust that feeling. Find another business, one that posts certificates and professional credentials proudly.
UPDATE: Although my SUV was supposed to have been placed on a lift for diagnostic purposes, I cannot believe this actually happened. One of the brake calipers was leaking so badly that no one could have failed to see it. I was told that the brakes did not need to be replaced. Had I not taken my vehicle immediately to another shop, I would have experienced brake failure. DO NOT use this shop!!! read more
