On a friendly suggestion, ('you would make a great agent!') I grabbed my RE agent license here back in 2015. 40 hrs of fun in Brookline wrapped up in 4 days with Richard. (Their textbook is a MUST HAVE -I have 2). The class was entertaining, engaging, and Richard made the time go by quickly with his charisma and sense of humor. Fast forward to Aug. '21. I hadn't seen Richard since the class, until yesterday when I picked up my broker bond in Brookline. I am elated to report that the Institute's online 40 hr Broker's course was the most clear, concise and (most importantly) convenient option for me. The Lee Institute offers supplementary study material on their site, and broker bonds- which I took full advantage of. I have highly enjoyed my real estate salesagent class at Lee institute. first they have a huge amount of word of mouth recommendations. I'm pretty sure 90% of students found out about it through word of mouth, including myself. it's a household name in real estate schools. Lee institute offers first time education, continuing education, sales agents, brokers, etc. they are located conveniently right in Coolidge corner by the theatre. very accessible by t and car. there is a huge parking lot in the back. the entrance looks small and dated (like most things in Boston) and you walk up the stairs to the classroom at the right. there's a lobby area and a large classroom (about 25'x25' with tons of tables and seats. Lets face it the place is dated but you're not paying for an upgraded building, you're investing in your education and starting a new career for a low price and great education.. they also have a huge amount of different schedules they cater to. need 4 10 hr days in a row? need 3 times a week for 2 weeks? need two weekends? they have every schedule available. they have their own books, and the teachers I had were Tony and rich. they were extremely informative. it was a lot of information to learn but the teachers are very efficient and personable. I appreciate the time and effort they take to teach so in depth and make sure no one is confused on any question, chapter, test. I missed a few hours and it's very easy to schedule make up time. Lee institute and it's teachers really want their students to pass the test on the first time. so much so that if you take it and fail the test you can use them again. I don't at all agree with the negative reviews. it seems like they were students who didn't read the agreements of signing up for the class because you can't get a refund on a cancellation if you've already attended. other seem like they don't know how credit card processors work. they have a contract for signing up for class so make sure you know what you're signing up for. I would highly recommend this school I am so excited to move forward with my new career thanks to Lee institute! rich is a great teacher and will help you with anything you need. also I've told people that I've been going to Lee institute, just uber drivers, or people in general and everyone knows where I'm talking about, and some have even gotten their real estate schooling through them. they help a large amount of people. I recently took the 40 hours salesperson course at Lee Institute. The good: It always helps if an instructor explains some details instead of reading the textbook yourself. The instructor was good. And that's why we take the course. 4 days course includes the weekend, which means I only need to take two days off. The bad: There was some misunderstanding between a classmate and staff, which it can be dealt in a more professional matter. We are all adults. I felt bad for the outcome. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Can you believe "Rich" the president yelled at me for calling on a Friday afternoon because he was trying to get out of the office and to call back on Monday??!! Not only did they cancel the weekend course I was suppose to take but told me last minute and then sent me to this office in Norwood to learn from some other guy who apparently hasn't seen the exam in years. Got a day and a half of lessons and this is what they charge $270 for? I didn't even leave with a booklet with a stamp in it to prove i took the course to take to the exam. Having took another Real Estate course (and 3 failed exams), the instructor never covered half the stuff that is on the test. I signed up for a course and tried to switch dates a week prior spoke with someone and they told me someone would get in contact wit me and I gave them my information 3 days passed nothing so i called back to see what's going 2nd person I spoke with was a guy and I explained to him I was waiting for a phone call and he tells me that's not how it works that I'm suppose to call and be on top of it. Which doesn't make sense to me because they told me someone would call me back. He then stated because of how I purchased my class I have to call a specific person which I wish they had told me the first time I called. So now apparently it's too late to switch. They just seem very inconsiderate just because I used a coupon and didn't pay value price. They refuse to refund me and just treated me as if I was some piece of crap on the street. I work for a real estate office and decided it was finally time to get a license and do the fun stuff. Everyone at my office recommended Lee Institute. I'm really not sure why this place has bad reviews. Sure, being in a room learning material for a test annnywhere isn't exactly going to be the most thrilling place, but we're not reviewing an amusement park here. Negative reviewers most likely expected to pass the exam immediately upon leaving the last class....as a college student, let me tell you that simply showing up to a class does not guarantee you an A! You need to study, too! Their textbook is the perfect study tool. Lee institute really gets the job done, and Rich seems to be a really great guy who is completely devoted to the school and getting it's students prepared. I've learned what I've needed to learn and their textbook is one of a kind and actually really helpful in preparation for the exam (I've gotten the most recent 2013 addition). They're super conscious of peoples' busy schedules and are reaaally willing to work with you to get your hours done (which helped me a whole lot during an unexpectedly busy week). Show up, listen to the lectures and study the book, and you will get your license. *also, according to previous comments, the customer service must have gotten MUCH better. I passed the MA RE Salesperson Exam. I was pretty engaged the classes, took good notes, asked questions. After the class ended, I wanted to take the exam ASAP, however the earliest available date was almost a month away. I still took that date, but called PearsonVue (the exam company) every day for cancellations. I was able to get something scheduled on a Saturday at 8 AM, which left me with 2 days to study. So, - I went back to my class notes and reviewed them. - Reviewed Lee Institutes excellent Salesperson License exam textbook (13th edition). - Made index cards to remember the terms. I passed the test and received my license with only 2 days of studying. The course is definitely intense, but totally worth it. read more

This company has absolutely terrible customer service. I signed up for their course which was cancelled the night before and my time was rescheduled the night before class started. I was then scheduled for the following week, at which point, they cancelled the course the night before once again. This resulted in considerable re-scheduling of business and personal commitments and lead me to request a refund. After more than a montha month and 15+ calls, I have yet to receive confirmation of the refund, nor a call back from the company. Most of the calls go to an answering service, who although quite pleasant to speak with, have no information nor ability to assist with issues beyond a willingness to take messages that have yet to result in even an acknowledgement of the issue. I mentioned I had previously taken the classes before but the certificate expires within a certain amount of time, and I was just curious if they gave any discounts for returning customers who didn't get a chance to complete the test? His answer was no, we don't know if you've really been here before and everyone tries to "Jew" us down, if you are looking to "Jew" us down, just go some place else and hung up on me. Recently took the 4 day, 40 hour course offered on weekends. I paid attention, took notes, and studied the book. I also did all practice tests available. Unfortunately, when I took the course we had some bad winter storms. Rich was very accommodating with making sure all of us completed our requirement. He also makes sure you can fulfill the course requirements. He made sure we were all confident with the material and answered all our questions. I just took the RE salesperson test and passed it first try. I feel as though the course and the book prepared me very well for the test. I will be looking to go here again for some more education. read more

I paid in full for a Tues/Wed class ($390). It was cancelled less than 24 hours prior. I was re-enrolled in the class the following week. It was subsequently cancelled due to insuffucient enrollment. I requested a refund. I have called and emailed a dozen times, and 40 days later, I have yet to get a refund or even a returned phone call. I recently took a 4-day Tuesday-Friday real estate class at the Lee Institute Norwood facility at Camber Real Estate office. I used a Groupon discount for the class and couldn't figure out how to redeem it but when I contacted their office the person I spoke with was very helpful and walked me thru how to register. The material for the class was, as expected, very dry, but our instructor, Peter, did his best to keep us all engaged. Peter was able to present the necessary material and wove in lots of real life experiences and stories of his years in the real estate business that made things much more relatable. He had a unique sense of humor that sometimes made me laugh out loud. The fee for the class includes access to an e-version of the text book used in the class and there is an option to purchase a hard copy for $80. I would recommend investing the $80. We moved back and forth within the text and doing so on my iPad was not very convenient in class. read more

Never have I been more disappointed in a "reputable school" as I am with Lee Institute. First: I paid $400 to be subjected to 88 degree temperature while trying to learn. Second: The manual/book we studied from had more spelling errors and inaccuracies than a course book should ever have. It is also out of date. Third: The restroom facilities provided were the MOST REVOLTING ones I have ever been in. So much so that I started going to The Upper Crust pizza shop to use the restroom. Fourth: As likeable as our teacher grew to be, his teaching methods were not easy to follow and I felt that he took his time going through sections that the class felt we're conceptually easier and seemed to speed through sections more complex. I will say though that with the stifling conditions the teacher sacrificed his own comfort for that of all of us, did all he could to make us comfortable and never once complained. I will never recommend this school. And I want some sort of compensation for the awful experience. You all would be SHOCKED at the response I received from Ron the administrative director. He was rude, unprofessional and unapologetic for the deplorable conditions and teachers stating that I WAS THE ONE with the problem. NEVER GO HERE. NEVER RECOMMEND HERE. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. I went there only out of convenience. I took my sales license at AREA in Waltham, it is a good school. I went to Lee for my Brokers course. You will never pass it if you follow their book. The test is no comparison to what is on the current test. The Brokers, is very different from the sales test. They use alot of trick questioning. By far, do not use them for Brokers, they are very outdated. And the owner, told me to call when I took exam, well, let's just say he didn't want to hear about my not passing it. He was extremely rude, a guess, anyone that has gross dogs in his office all day. What do you expect, and I have two dogs of my own and am a dog person. But, sometimes just not professional. If you take Brokers, exam go online to testing center and pay for their practice test. It will be a huge help, I wish someone told me. read more

Things that shouldn't be conversation topics/discussed at any point during a Real Estate class: - The instructors political affiliations - The instructors choice for president - The instructors military background, and opinion on non military members - The instructors opinions on Osama Bin Laden and his family - Anything related to 9/11 - Superfluous used of these words: Retard, Dumbass, Shithead, Dummy... I took a 4 day/40hr (we actually sat in class for maybe 20-22 hours, one of the few things i'm not going to complain about) course with Lee Institute at the Norwood Camber RE office. The instructor was a nice old man, with absolutely no filter between his brain and his mouth - which led to incredibly awkward moments and hours wasted on discussions that had absolutely nothing to do with the situations at hand. That being said, he has an incredible grasp on the theories and laws regarding real estate in Massachusetts, and has much more than the prerequisite knowledge to teach this course. The class follows the 20 chapter "Lee Institute Textbook, 14th Edition". The Lee book is filled with spelling/grammar mistakes, and some of the end of chapter questions have different answers to the answer key on the back of the book; Your instructor will tell you that many of the chapter review questions are taken directly from the Pearson Vue test itself - from my experience I saw less than 8-10 questions on the test. Despite all that, It Is a comprehensive look at real estate principals and laws, with a specific chapter on Massachusetts laws. You need to study the shit out of this book. Make notecards on key phrases for every chapter, know the Massachusetts state chapter back and front. From my experience, Lee Institute does not come close to adequately preparing you to pass the real estate exam. My instructor was very knowledgable, but unprofessional. We convened for barely half the the state required 40 hours for a licensing course. BUT Lee Institute does provide you with the tools to pass the test yourself, if you can't spend a few hour studying the book on your own time - then you're probably not going to cut it as an agent anyway. I passed the Pearson Vue exam on my first attempt. I would not recommend this Lee Institute. read more

I honestly can't say enough about Lee Institute and more specifically, Rich. I had some health issues that prevented me from completing the course within the 90-day time frame and almost a year later, when I should have had to pay the course fee over again, was only charged a $50 fee (the very lowest they offer). Rich has stayed late in the office so I can finish a cd and has always been there to answer any questions I've had in regards to getting this completed. I hope to be completed by next Wednesday but none of it would've been possible without they're unending understanding. I would not recommend this real estate school. I recently took the 40 hour class offered over two weekends and was extremely disappointed in the lack of professionalism displayed by the instructor. I will start by saying I am 25 years old and have a masters degree. I have never disliked a classroom situation until the Lee Institute. I was looking forward to this experience, and I am very let down. I took the first two days of the course online, and the second two days in person. The instructor on the online video was fine, but the in person class with Peter was horrible. Our class was just a captive audience for the instructor to give his political opinion for 40 hours. The instructor referred to people as "retarded" almost 3 times per hour and swore repeatedly. He gave us more tips on how to work around the IRS than he referenced the text book. We barely learned any real estate and he only kept us in the classroom for about 4 hours per day. For someone who loves to learn I couldn't wait to get out of the classroom after 4 hours of being talked down to and called a "dumb ass" and a "retard". I'm sure this instructor is knowledgeable about real estate, but I do not think he belongs in a customer service/teaching role. I did not learn anything from the in person class that was useful on the exam. If you can do the class online that is the better option. read more

DO NOT GO TO LEE INSTITUTE!!! They are ripoff artists who try to say that you can go to another class the same day and "catch up" when you sign up for one elsewhere that has been cancelled (thus violating the law for the number of hours needed to take the realtor exam). When you try to get a refund, they will keep telling you they will "look into it" and when you contest it through your credit card they try to tell you that you took the course so they can't understand why you're taking a credit. I've been through the dispute process for almost 9 months, have contacted Rich several times to no avail, and have been threatened on the phone with him saying that he will keep contesting the charge. Due to our 4th Nor'easter on the way I called to ask about Protocall in case of a snow storm as I am Driving an hour to take this course. The woman who answered was Extremely rude to me when all I was trying to do was get information. While asking if class happened to be cancelled for any reason, when would make it up, etc. she very rudely goes "do you want to reschedule your clas?!?!? there's a $50 fee." When i had said not a single thing about wanting to change my class dates or anything I wanted to know when or how I would find out if they cancelled class because of snow, seeing as I'm driving and hour to get there. UNPROFESSIONAL is an understatement. How Lee has stayed in business this long is beyond me. While I will admit the class did help me get licenses, I am in general an overachiever so I spent my nights reading and studying and took three practice exams and THAT IS WHY I PASSED not because of Lee, you are better off getting the text and just learning from that. Only one of the three instructors (FYI three instructors in a four day course) had any right to be teaching. Perhaps these gentleman are kick-butt brokers but they had no business teaching, one could not even read the text aloud correctly; it was humiliating for him and embarrassing to witness. Finally, when I called with a follow up question about access the MLS once licensed, Pamela was quick to HUFF at me that she "has no clue" how to do that and when I replied that I was surprised my Real Estate Institute had no clue about accessing the MLS she huffed louder and asked "what? so you want me to go online FOR YOU? When I replied no that I would simply appreciate her being understanding about my inquiry and if she was unsure about the answer could I talk to someone else, she hung up on me (YES that is right I said HUNG UP ON ME). I called back twice and was hung up on twice more and I would like to be VERY HONEST in that I did not raise my voice or get snippy with her in the least. Last call she told me to talk to Rich but as I read these reviews I realize she probably learned her customer service skills from him. As a business owner and, well I don't know, a human being I expect more especially when paying this kind of money on a program. GET YOUR LICENSE ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!!!!! Also to verify the other comments regarding the facility, it is HOT, cramped, smelly there is no natural light and lucky for me on my weekend someone had puked all over the girls bathroom and it was not cleaned up for hours. I am actually surprised by the overall low rating of Lee. I recently took the 40 hour salesperson certification class. It was 4 - 10 hour days in a row... pretty brutal but not as bad as I was anticipating. The was a ton of material to cover but the teachers handled everything well. The booklet I received was useful and the practice tests were challenging and just as helpful. I passed my exam today on the first attempt. Not professional, not a good class, terrible professor. I attended the Lee Institute for their 40 hour real estate course offered over one weekend. The first three days were horrible, I was very disappointed with the instructor Peter. I learned nothing about real estate, his explanation of terms was very hard to follow. He did not work out of the book, and was very difficult to understand. When he wrote on the board it was illegible. If someone in the class would ask a question he would yell at them and say they were stupid and not answer the question. He would repeatedly say people were stupid, swear and use discriminatory language and jokes. He spoke more about politics and how to work your taxes around the IRS than anything to do with real estate. Most of what he did was answer the questions in the back of the chapter by reading the question and saying the answer. This class was a way for him to sit in front of an audience and spew his opinions on various topics that are not appropriate to discuss in a classroom and not relevant to real estate. On the fourth day there was a miscommunication and there was no instructor when the class started. Miscommunications happen, not a big deal and it's understandable. What is not understandable is the way the situation was handled. Upon waiting for a half an hour someone called the phone number listed for the school. The student told the woman on the phone that we were at the school with no instructor and wanted to make them aware. The woman told her she would leave a message and call her back when she got in touch with someone. After thirty more minutes I called the number again. A woman answered and I explained the situation and wanted to know if they had gotten in touch with an instructor. She informed me she was a message taker and all she did was leave a message with the office. I told her we were at the office and no one was there, hence why I was calling her. Her response was I am aware.... I asked is there another number I could call or any other way to get in touch with someone and she said, 'no I can just leave messages.' After two hours and multiple attempts to get ahold of someone Richard called back some of the students to inform them an instructor would be there in about an hour. Richard, the president of the institution, was extremely unprofessional on the phone, also seen in his responses to the negative reviews on YELP. There should not be a messaging service to contact a vacant office in order to say the school isn't open. The instructor who came to cover the class was awesome. Everyone was annoyed that the class started 3 hours late but he got right in and started class. Joe presented the material effectively and in a manner that was easy to understand. I only feel comfortable with the chapters we went over with him. His slides broke down the information in a comprehensive way and he was able to cover the rest of the material we needed to go over. I wish he had taught all four classes because I would have felt like I actually learned something. I used a groupon coupon to take this class. This class is not even remotely worth the full cost of the course, nor is it worth the groupon price. If you can get the groupon call ahead and figure out who will be teaching the course on the days you are looking at. If it is Peter I would say look somewhere else to take this class. They do have their own book which is the only saving grace. After leaving the class at around 3 the first three days I went home and learned the material on my own. My husband and I signed up to take a real estate salesperson's course over a weekend in February. We specifically selected that date because the course was being held in Plymouth, MA, just 20 minutes and an easy ride from our house. We showed up 15 minutes prior to course start time on Saturday morning, went into the hotel where it was supposed to be held, and asked at the front desk where to go, since there were no signs in the lobby indicating where the room was. They said they had no event for the Lee Institute scheduled at the hotel, and that someone had come in a few minutes earlier looking for the same class. We went back to the car and I called Rich, the guy in charge, on my cell phone. He picked up and said that the course was about to start--in Brookline. He said that due to low registration the Plymouth course had been moved to Brookline, and that someone had left us a message about it. We did have a message on our land line about it--had no idea that there was a chance that the class would be cancelled the day before, so since we barely even use our land line, we didn't think to check the voicemail. Anyway, Rich says that we are welcome to drive to Brookline and join the class in progress....well, the state mandates 24 hours, and there was no way we were making it to Brookline from Plymouth in less than an hour and a half...then once we got there we'd have to try to figure out what was going on after missing the entire first 90 minutes? So we declined the offer. He said that we could call Monday about rescheduling or getting a refund. Monday morning I called. My husband and I decided to get a refund and take the course somewhere else--not wanting to chance a cancelled class again. When I requested that he refund us the $540 we'd spent for both of us to go, Rich asked if we had received any textbooks in the mail, and I said no, we'd only signed up for the class online on Thursday and nothing had been mailed to us. Again, I said I would like the money refunded to my credit card. He chose his words carefully as he said "I will look into putting the money back on your card." I had an inkling that we were in for a fight. We gave him 2 weeks and still, no refund. We contested the charge on our credit card and received confirmation from our card a few months later that the charges had been reversed. Now, over 3 months later, Rich leaves a voice mail on our phone saying he received a charge from our credit card company and he has no idea why we are trying to reverse the charges on a real estate course that we ALREADY COMPLETED!!! Now, I have to imagine if one completes a real estate course, something must be filed with the state from the school indicating that the individual is eligible to take the licensing exam...so obviously since we never even took the course, that never happened....so either Rich is pulling a fast one or Lee Institute has some sketchy record keeping and is compromising the legitimacy of the real estate licensing process. Either way, stay away from Lee Institute and find a legitimate business to deal with for your class! read more

Found their google ad for $60 for continuing CE courses. When you go to their website it tries to sell you 6 courses at $20 each. Then when I contacted them I got a text message response. Some human is telling me that the course is $60 only for returning students. Its $78 for a new student. this VERY deceptive. Don't do business with dishonest companies like this one. My friend who has a brokerage in Jamaica Plain referred me to Lee Institute a few months ago after I told her I'd like to try my hand at real estate sales. I just completed the 40 hours of instruction that is required before sitting the exam. I decided to do the online option which I found to be more flexible than committing to the classroom option and it can be done according to your availability and inclination. It took me longer than expected to complete, but this is due to the denseness of material covered. I did it at my own pace so I found this to be a very positive experience. I took a vacation in the middle so there were no classes to miss - I just picked up where I'd left off when I got back home. I'd recommend doing it online for this reason. There was a lot of information but the instructor was thorough and very clear. The chapter multiple choice tests were a good tool for checking your weak spots in terms of knowledge. The accompanying book has been extremely helpful also and I will keep it as a reference after I get my license. Richard, with whom I've had dealings over the phone is very nice, helpful and professional. Today we spoke on the phone after I'd completed the final lesson and he told me he was proud of me which I thought was kind of sweet! The course was very reasonably priced (under $400) and this included the text book. I've read the negative reviews on this site, and would remind anyone reading this that, as with any instructional course, you DO have to study and make some effort to review the material, practice the math problems, and prepare yourself for the exam. They give you the information but you're responsible for the rest. read more

Scam Scam Scam! Do NOT sign up for or pay for this class. The guy called the day before my class was supposed to start and told me it was postponed until a month later. Because of a prior engagement, I told him I would not be able to attend that class and asked him for a refund. He told me the "accounting department" wasn't in that day. Hmm it's been over a week and I've called every day and dealt with the same jerk. Every day he's had a different excuse/lie as to why he couldn't help me. He's not too bright because I called him out on every lie he's told, which caused him to have an attitude and rush me off the phone. He's a liar and a scam artist. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Rich is a total jerk, doesn't return phone calls, doesn't return emails and worse - reschedules classes OVER and OVER again. My first class was rescheduled 3 times, my second class twice and now my third (and LAST) class has just been pushed out 2 weeks. I am trying to get my appraiser's license and have a job waiting for me, but I cannot work because I need this class for my license. I registered for all 3 classes at once because Lee "seemed" to have the most offerings. Yeah well bait and switch is on me, because the classes they advertise don't actually happen. If you are on any kind of time frame, DO NOT go to this school. SHAM, SHAM, SHAM. I will post this everywhere I can because this school is a joke! read more
