We were excited to be able to have dim sum in Munich but then found out that it's a dumpling-only place. Ok no big deal. It is a very clean and hip tiny place, a welcoming atmosphere. We were served pretty quickly as we came at an off time (~3pm). The two of us shared the black & white 10 piece steamed dumplings. They were pretty good, soup filled and all. It's a bit pricier than what we are used to back in Canada, where you can get 15 pieces of dumplings for ~$8 CAD. Though I guess when there is little competition, you can bump up the price to whatever you want. Bathroom smelled very nice. 3/5 for value, 4/5 for ambience. read more

Prefer the other location because the salad was fresher -- there wasn't old wilted lettuce sitting at the bottom -- and they don't serve you salad drowning in dressing. There was a half inch of dressing at the bottom of our bowls. The dumplings are good, and for .5 more Euro you can mix and match once you decide which dumplings are your favorite. This was my third time at LeDu in less than a week, and first time at this location. The tables are communal here, except for the two tables outside. I'd give this place 3.5 stars, if I could, but then again, the bathroom here is much nicer than the other location. We went here for the first time today and really enjoyed it. This place does one thing, dumplings. You can choose if you want white or brown dough, select steamed or pan fried and there is about 10 options for filling. I chose the sour pork which is a German twist to the filling with pork and sauerkraut. The dumplings were tasty and the pork filling was excellent. The chili sauce here is also very good and I really enjoyed the meal. You can choose from a basket of 6 or 10 dumplings and if you choose you can order the menu option and that come with a small side salad. Good food at reasonable prices. I will definitely come back here for dumplings. It's no comparison to a good yum cha house I have been to but for Munich, a good choice. read more

This was a surprising little find. After spending a day at the Residenz Museum, we had worked up quite an appetite. A 10 minute walk led us into a trendy SOHO district with enticing antique shops. Only a handful of places were open on Sunday including this one. Service is quick, abrupt, and hardly friendly. The menu is on the wall, but there are English versions for your perusal. It's pretty straightforward if you're ordering dumplings. Figure out if you want light or dark exterior. The waitress said it tastes the same, only one is darker. Hmm...alrighty. We'll go with the lighter one cuz dumplings cuz it seems weird any other way. You choose the steam or pan fried method, then the filling. I had to take off a star because I expected a nice crisp bottom when traditional dumplings are pan fried. There was hardly a difference between pan fried and steamed. They've got a few other items like dessert dumplings and salads. I tried the peanut dressing salad and it was refreshing on a warm day. They've also got an array of teas..again worth getting to help wash down the flavorful dumplings. I agree with other yelpers that it was a bit too salty. It came with dipping sauces, but there was so much flavor that it truly wasn't necessary. This little place is TINY so expect to share a table. The colorful, cool decor makes up for the lack of space. I suggest coming at off hours so you're not elbow to elbow with other patrons. read more

We tried to get a reservation for 6pm but it was completely booked so we tried our luck with walking in around 5:30. Fortunately it was still pretty empty, but we were told we would have to free the table by 6:30. We ordered 3 different dumplings: black & white, the hot chicken, and the vegan dumpling. My favorite was the black and white because it was the one that tasted the most like your regular Chinese dumpling. The hot chicken was my least favorite because it was sooo spicy! Normally I can handle spicy but this I couldn't. The vegan one was pretty tasty but for this one we ordered it with the dark dough and I was not a fan of that. The dumplings are very affordable. We ordered 30 pieces for two of us and each set of 10 was 6.90€. It was quite filling as well, we had 6 pieces left at the end. I will definitely visit this restaurant again. I think next time I will just stick to the black and white dumplings though. read more

Happy Dumplings can certainly induce happiness in their customers. LeDu is a basic but clean little establishment with a list of dumplings with various stuffings. Then one can choose between fried or steamed, wheat or rye dough, 6 or 10 pieces, and opt for an side salad for 2€ extra. The selection of stuffings is decent, ranging from pork to chicken to vegetarian, sure to have something for everyone, The even better part is that all the meats as well as the glass noodles are organic. We tried the 10 pc. of fried "Black & White" rye dumplings (minced pork, cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, scallions, ginger, Szechuan pepper) and 6 pc. of steamed "Double Green" wheat dumplings (minced pork, cabbage, 'Bärlauch' or wild garlic, sesame oil, and oyster sauce) with a side salad. The salad was fine, but both dumpling dishes along with the dipping sauce were comforting and delicious! We devoured them within minutes of getting them. Too bad (or not bad?) that the portions were small that we still had room for dessert, so we tried the 'Chinesische Hefeknödel' with taro filling served with mango sauce. Not quite the authentic Chinese steamed bun but it was tasty nevertheless. The prices of these dumplings are on the higher end (i.e. one can eat much more for the same price elsewhere), but hey, it's a small price to pay for happiness at least in your tummy. read more

This might be the best you can find in Munich, but it was not very good and I will probably just pass on gyozas/potstickers/dumplings until I am back in California. Service was typical for Europe (waiters can be curt or terse) and I think they were going for a nice presentation...BUT-- we ordered pan-fried and they basically came to use un-cooked or too-cooked on the bottom and not cooked on top. Maybe I don't know much about authenticity and dumplings, but I just didn't like it. The sauce is also bizarre (as mentioned in other comments). I think it has soy sauce but it might be white balsamic??? mixed in instead of rice vinegar. The interior is quite nice (architecture books), clean, and has hip/contemporary seating. We didn't have a reservation and they were good about letting us eat quickly at a reserved table before the reservees showed. read more

Visited LeDu on a recent city break in Munich. Visually, the food was excellent, although the dumplings were stodgy and over heavy, without tasting particularly nice. The gentleman serving us was friendly although there were also several confusions over who got what food. Happy Chinese New Year! I was invited to LeDu by a Chinese-Canadian friend who wanted to celebrate Chinese New Year's day. As most know, it is hard to find really good Chinese food in Munich. However, being a place for dumplings, and dumplings only, we figured it was worth a try. The Imbiss (can't really call it a restaurant) is well located just 100 meters or so down Theresienstrasse, between Universität and Odeonplatz U-Bahn stops. There is seating for about 20 people, 16 at tables and about four at a side bar with tall stools. My friend had cleverly called ahead to reserve space. There were 8 of us, taking up half the total seating. The décor is clean and simple, but very welcoming. The selection of dumplings is quite varied, 9 different sorts which can be ordered with either a traditional wrapper or a whole wheat (Roggen) wrapper. You can have them fried or steamed. Pricing is extremely reasonable... 6 dumplings for €5,00 and 10 dumplings for €6,90. If you want a salad, it is only another €2,00 more. As there were 8 of us and we could not decide which of the dumplings to have, we decided to order 10 of each and try them all. This was by far the best way to go. We started with salads. I ordered the Erdnuss Salad (Peanut Salad). It was just a little spicey with perfectly cooked rice nuddles and a little chicken and cucumber. After about half way through our salads, the dumplings started to arrive. We ordered three fried and the rest steamed, all with the traditional wrappers. No knowing where to start we began a running dumpling line taking one and passing the plate down to the next person and receiving the next plate handed to you. I will say my favorite would be the fried Hot Chicken dumpling. I cannot really say what it was about it, but I had two of them. It had just enough heat to be almost too much but not going over the edge. The fry was light and the wrappers stayed mostly soft with only a little crispiness. At one point I lost track of which one was which, but I cannot say that any of them were bad. I accompanied my dumplings with a Jasmin tea. The flavor and smell were amazing. Some of the best Jasmin tea I have had other than that which was brought to me from Japan 20 years ago. We finished the meal with desert. I was a little apprehensive about the Tara filed dumpling. This was definitely more of a German looking Knödel rather than a Chinese dessert, but I was pleasantly surprised. The taste is very mild and is mostly of the lovely mango sauce that comes with it. The texture was a bit odd at first, but after a few bites it really grew on me. The staff was very friendly, though our Mandarin speaking certainly gave us an edge, I think. The service was quite quick. I do not think we were at the table much over an hour. We didn't feel rushed at all, but the dumplings were produced quickly and efficiently. This is one of my better "Asian" experiences in Munich and I already have plans to go back next week. They also have take-out service and, it seems, they also have a delivery service as well. read more

This place is pretty legit for dumplings. Went for lunch on a random week day, and got 30 dumplings to split with a co-worker, 20 pan fried, 10 steamed. The dumplings reminded me of home a bit, though with slightly different fillings. The only reason I can't give this is a 5 star review is because of the slower service - the 30 dumplings took a bit of time to come out. I know from personal experience making dumplings that it could have been a little faster. Then again, I can't completely say, because I don't know what other people ordered, and the place was pretty packed. Tried the vegetarian dumplings and was so turned off that I kept avoiding even the idea of Chinese food in Munich for two months. This shop is more like an Imbiss whereas everyone sits very closely to each other and can at most house 20 people at one time. Went there with my husband for a late snack on a Sunday evening and ended up trying the sampling of steamed dumplings. This includes one of each of the 10 dumplings listed on the menu. The positive: The pork dumplings, all three of them, were delicious - really interesting mix of flavors! Also very good were the chicken dumplings. We liked the interior, which was nice and modern. The negative in order of importance: First, the dumplings were stuck to the paper and at least half of the 10 ended up falling apart as we were trying to peel them off, even though we were being very careful. Second, the service left much to be desired. The waiter informed us that even though there was still more than half an hour to closing, this was our last chance to order as the kitchen was closing. Strange... and too bad, because given the size of the dumplings we would have ordered more. Also, the waiter refused to bring us tap water, so had to order mineral water - according to him the water from the kitchen was not clean enough to drink. But clean enough to cook with??? Third, the dumplings were bite-sized, i.e. very small, so at almost 8 euros per 10, they seemed way too expensive. And finally, it would have been nice to be able to mix and match rather than be forced to get 1 of each dumpling. Especially, since the veggie ones were not that great. read more
