My child (rising 4th grader) is excelling in school and we have Kumon to thank for! The Kumon…read moremethod is practice, practice, practice until mastery so I know my child is learning the basics and mastering certain levels and concepts before moving up to the next level. It is different how schools are teaching math and reading but I like this method bc as a high school teacher, it's becoming more common to see high schoolers needing calculators for basic addition. My child does get homework from Kumon everyday (again, different from some schools but it doesn't take long on both the math and reading) so there is development of building discipline and practice. My child is at least 2 grades above in math and reading and we have Kumon to thanks! (I also grew up with Kumon and found it helped make school easier for me)

My son gets lots of outdoor play time. No there isn't a playground but rather large green areas with sand pits coupled with kitchen utensils, toys nature gift to them, your kids imagination, his friends and all the little bug friends as playground. Julie is the fearless leader of the school who is very caring and goes above and beyond to provide a positive and educational environment for all the children and their parents. It's a community based school that includes everyone! As such, you'll meet awesome parents and be part of a very supportive community. All of the teachers love their job and the children. They genuinely love being there and greets each child by name. The classes are small (think 6-7) so your child will never be lost in the crowd. Personalized attention, anyone? Oh also it's ok if your child isn't potty trained yet. The teachers will help you with that! They had me sold at potty-trained not required! I mean nature develops at its own time but most other schools don't seem to believe that. Sure, you have plenty of options in the NOVA area but none are like ERS. I would highly recommend you put ERS on the top of your preschool list so you and your precious little one won't miss out! I'm so glad I did!

When cultural food was brought up, they described it as parental "preference," thus dismissing culture (and the food that is associated). They make allocations for religious and philosophical reasons, but not for culture. I find this to be concerning, esp. the idea of children being fed restaurant food, which I don't consider to be necessarily a healthier option. I believe parents should be the ultimate arbiters of their child's diet, not a school.

From the initial visit Mrs. Jaime put me at ease. She was so warm and genuinely friendly I soon came to know that the entire staff is this way. My kids enjoy themselves and are developing at a rapid pace. Fast forwarding to now I feel confident and safe to have my kids enter back into daycare. Staff is so caring and kind-the front desk staff and directors (Ms. sunny, Ms. Jamie and Latoya) were always there to listen to me, offer advice and so patient when I needed to switch days due to work or medical appts. I communicated with Ms. Kaltun, the director and I must say, after speaking to her once, I was "sold" at putting my son at her school. She is very personable, very kind and understanding, genuine and just listened to my questions, concerns and answered them confidently which gave me peace of mind sending my son over to a school during the pandemic. We then went to the school for a tour and met Ms. Komala, our son's primary teacher. At first meeting, our son felt very comfortable with her and he never forgot her name even tho it took us about 4 months before starting in class- she sure gave him a good impression and really showed us how much she cared for the children. I have so much good things to say about the school. I have recommended them to my friends and coworkers who also had good experience with them. Overall, this is a place that cares about our children, they do not look at them as numbers like all the others. If you want quality education and a safe place for your children, this is it.

The thing that I really appreciate about the teachers is the fact that they want to learn more about the respective cultures of the student body so that they can prepare them for the diverse world that exists outside of the school. My daughter is part of such a warm and welcoming environment, so much so that they even invited parents to come in and contribute towards a special event yesterday to better understand and appreciate the importance of Lunar New Year to my family and the other families that celebrate. I considered switching but I absolutely adore my teachers in the infant room so made it very hard to make a decision. Well, needless to say I am glad we stayed, Jessica (Assistant Director) has always been amazing throughout the year and new Director, Donna's been great and very responsive which is what I would expect from a Center Director who oversees and in charge of the operation. My daughter absolutely loves all of her teachers in the infrant and toddler room. She gets super excited to see them in the morning and theres been times when she didn't want to get picked up & go home. Made us sad but I love that she loves & feels comfortable with them. Lack of turnover has definitely helped not only myself but my daughter to transition easily. I would give a solid 10/10 on all the teachers I've gotten to know & meet. They are great with kids and it's nice to know they have the best interests in them and I don't need to worry about my daughters wellbeing which is a great feeling & assurance to have. We had a scary experience at another (popular/in-demand) school, after which KinderCare Lake Newport has been a refreshing and pleasant experience. I never have to worry that the school will be closed for random reasons. And they are open during several holidays means that I can use my day off to take care of chores, e.g., the days between Christmas and New Year. The building is surrounded by nature with ample outdoor play area which is a huge plus. My daughter is developing very well under the teachers here!
