I'm a little more experienced than a beginner so I wasn't looking for a full lesson. I wanted someone to paddle out with me and give me some guidance in the lineup. Sean quickly understood the assignment and made the session perfect. He also helped push my husband into some great waves while still giving me the support I wanted. We also did the photo package. Our photographer (also named Sean) got so many great shots. To top it off the woman owner gave me a hat for my birthday which I loved wearing for the rest of the trip. Thank you surf club Maui, the owner, and both Seans for making my birthday morning so special. We can't wait to come back!

One of our children has cerebral palsy, which affects his left side. While he can swim, he's not a strong swimmer, so we were looking for an instructor with experience working with differently abled individuals. Maui Surf Girls School recommended Brent, and we are so grateful they did. Brent was patient, encouraging, and incredibly skilled. He managed to give all three of our kids plenty of attention, while also adapting his instruction to help our son succeed. Thanks to Brent, our son was able to stand up on the surfboard, something we weren't sure would be possible. Seeing that happen was an unforgettable moment for our family. The rest of our vacation was spent listening to our kids ask for more surf lessons, which says everything about the experience they had. I would recommend Brent and Maui True North Surf Lessons without hesitation. If we're ever back in Maui, they will be our first call.

Newbie to wind sports, and I had a great experience. I've…read morebeen out windsurfing with my guy about 10 times over a 2 1/2 year period. That limited exposure helped me get started with wing foiling pretty quickly. Equally as important, my wing instructor, Art, was pretty amazing. Art didn't throw a bunch of jargon at me. He just got in the water said, "here's the wrong way to do it....here's the right way to do it...now, you try". Boom! I loved this no nonsense approach. Art was very kind, and affirming when I was doing it correctly, and would say I could make minor adjustments to make it better. He modified his teaching technique to be on my guy's level, as he is much more experienced. I felt safe in the water, not overly criticized, and given props when appropriate (it's nice to be encouraged as you're learning something new). Thanks for a very good experience, Art! We had some light wind days which was good the first day, but disappointing the second day as we would have both liked to push our new skills. Patty, our contact person, moved our second lesson to a time of day when the wind was the best it was going to get. We very much appreciated that. Thank you, Patty for all your help. I will say, IMHO, muscle memory is important to any new skill, but especially physical activities. That said, I think it's best to learn by practicing a minimum of three days in a close sequence ( say every other day for six days). So take at least two lessons with these folks, and then rent gear to practice on your own if you think you're ready. I love winging and hope to do it for years to come! He'll show you how to mount the boards on your rooftop and give you tips on where to surf. I called him late on a Mon night and we were surfing by Tue morning. We had our own reef shoes, but he also offered them which are a must for certain surf spots like Launiupoko. He was a little late and had to change our rendezvous spot. But he called/texted to give me updates, and it's pretty understandable given that he's driving around the island dropping off and picking up boards. Like I said, I like his hustle and this is a great alternative to figuring out which surf shop to go to. A tad more expensive than a typical surf shop. But the delivery and pickup makes it very reasonable.

First, the positive: my instructor was outstanding. He was knowledgeable, professional, easy to…read morelearn from, and got me on the water quickly. I would absolutely book with him again. Now the warning. The person handling bookings (Josh/John) tried to overcharge me. I called about a single 3-hour lesson and was quoted $400. When I asked where to book, he said I had to book directly through him. After paying, I noticed I'd been charged $475. When I questioned it, he claimed part of the charge was for the 3-day package--something I never agreed to. After arguing, he reluctantly refunded only $50, not the full $75 difference. During my lesson, I mentioned this to my instructor. He immediately said it didn't sound right and asked what I'd paid. When I told him, he was shocked. He explained that two people pay $620 for a 3-hour lesson--that's $310 per person. That made it pretty clear I'd been significantly overcharged. After the instructor spoke with the booking guy, I received another $50 refund, but I still paid well above the normal rate. And I didn't do the whole 3 hrs just did 2hrs so this place made a pretty good quick profit. So to all only book on line if you do. The instructor was fantastic and even apologized for something that wasn't his fault. The booking experience, however, left a terrible impression. I'll be back in November with a bachelor party of nine, but I'll be booking directly with the instructor, not through this school.
