We signed up for a small group surf lesson with Maui True North Surf Lessons, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Brent was absolutely outstanding. One of our children has cerebral palsy, which affects his left side. While he can swim, he's not a strong swimmer, so we were looking for an instructor with experience working with differently abled individuals. Maui Surf Girls School recommended Brent, and we are so grateful they did. Brent was patient, encouraging, and incredibly skilled. He managed to give all three of our kids plenty of attention, while also adapting his instruction to help our son succeed. Thanks to Brent, our son was able to stand up on the surfboard, something we weren't sure would be possible. Seeing that happen was an unforgettable moment for our family. The rest of our vacation was spent listening to our kids ask for more surf lessons, which says everything about the experience they had. Amazing 5 star experience from start to end! First of all, Brett (and his son Reef) gave myself and my 3 kiddos (10, 7, 7) the experience of a lifetime. I have one anxious daughter and two thrill seekers...he accommodated them all and had my anxious one thrill seeking two waves in. Brett loves what he does and is an AMAZING teacher. His son was so kind and helpful with our crew too. I could only book a lesson for two online but when we messaged he said he could make four happen, so yay, didn't have to pick favorites! My son and I were looking to get some surf instruction and everything was booked up. Maui Surf Girls recommended Brett and we are so glad we got linked in with him. My son already had a grasp on surfing and I knew nothing about! What makes Brett stand out is his ability to mold his instruction and time to the level of student he has. Most important though is Brett's knowledge of the ocean, island swells, and markers on the shore. We happened to be in Maui when the winds and swells were higher than normal and my wife was worried something would occur. Brett clearly knew what he is doing and we felt like we had more than an instructor but a guide for the 2 hour lesson. Brett was early and prepared when we arrived. Highly recommend using him if you are looking for a private or semi private experience. Spectacular intro to kitesurfing! Brett is an amazing instructor - very patient, clear, and encouraging. The helmet communicators was such a handy and important thing to have that I never would have thought of! Invaluable that he could communicate instructions while we were out in the water. My daughter and I took a semi-private lesson with Brett which exceeded all expectations. I was basically brand new to surfing and my daughter a few lessons over the years. The best part was Brett had us up on waves in less than 15 minutes. That was about a 5 min quick intro and then a paddle out. Amazing how fast he was able to connect with our ability and get us up. I see the other companies spend a lot of time on shore but loved how Brett just took us out right away with minimal shore time. I started my small (much smaller than Maui True North) teaching operation and got very good results. Maui Really Needed Brett . He surely is the best instructor on the island. I have seen how he teaches and and I know that's he 's an amazing waterman . Respected by all beginners to advanced waterman. Brett took me and my fourteen-year old on an awesome secret mountain bike ride. He inspired confidence from the beginning of the scheduling process all the way up until the end of the ride. He also checked in with us after. Was so wonderful we scheduled a second ride! His chill non pushy energy was so amazing that we wanted to get surfing lessons from him and we discussed scheduling a surfing lesson. And even though Brett was kind enough to try and fit us in, we got time-crunched at the end, and he was totally understanding. Within an action packed day, the owner Brett had 3 girls that never surfed (and two barely swam) up on surf boards followed by the most challenging water fall hike we had ever done. Fantastic thrill! I did a half hour tandem kiteboarding experience with Brett and I highly recommend it. Brett has a terrific attitude, great energy, and is highly experienced.
