Shoutout to our guide who was super friendly and full of information; I believe his name was Matius. Also, being a late riser, I appreciated that our tour didn't start at the crack of dawn. The first section of the mountain you fly down; I managed to reach speeds of almost 35mph! The second section of the ride allows you to stop and shop. I enjoyed the self-paced aspect of this tour. Overall, if you're looking for something fun to do with lots of scenery along the way, Maui Sunriders is the way to go!

Maui Easy Riders was a SUPERB choice!! Booking with the owner Billy was great as he prepared me for our adventure over the phone. The morning of the excursion, we met our guides, Charlotte and Jon, who proved to be an absolute hoot! They alieved any anxiety and brought some great history lessons as we trekked up the mountain. My wife and I were celebrating our 38th wedding anniversary and the last time we were in Hawaii was for our honeymoon, 38 years prior. Charlotte and Jon made us feel special. Unlike many other companies, Maui Easy Riders only allows 6 people per session, so it was easy to get to know your fellow travelers and we became close friends in a very short time. They have a specially built cruiser bike that has a huge, extremely comfortable seat and and massive disc brakes for both wide tires. The ride is exceptional and you feel very much in control. There is no "push" for you to speed down the mountain, and until everyone was comfortable with their "sled", the downhill journey was held at your own pace. The van follows you down the mountain and runs interference for cars that might be coming up to pressure you. No worries or anxiety here. If you need anything at all, they came prepared to assist you: Rain gear, pants, windbreakers, snacks, water and Gatorade. At any time, you could have access to the stuff you might of brought in the van. We made several stops to take pictures and view the landscape and learn of areas to be aware of as they might be coming up. Charlotte was a great leader, guiding us with hand motions and instructions for our safety. She and Jon communicated with walkie-talkies to navigate the traffic and the care of the riders. We all shared some great stories as we learned all about the route and history of Maui. I can't recommend Maui Easy Riders enough. Their care and concern for your safety and adventurous spirit made our trip extremely enjoyable. The 6 of us riders enjoyed the journey so much, we all had lunch together, laughing and sharing more antics from the excursion. Don't pass up YOUR experience!! Everyone in the tour parked their car in the town of Paia and were picked up by Billy and another individual (forgot his name) in the Maui Easy Rider van. Once we arrived at Haleakala, it was a bit chilly and misty (morning tour), so bring a jacket. You can store you personal items in the van, so don't worry about carrying a lot things. Billy took the time to ensure the helmet and bikes were a good match for our head size and body height. After going over the safety rules, Billy led the group with his own bike while the helper drove the van in the back blocking passing cars to create a safe ride for us. The ride itself was amazing. It was about a 25 mile bike ride ( ~2 hours), but it was really casual and smooth. It was mostly downhill so majority of the time was spent being in awe with the surrounding environment. We passed by ranches, farms, towns, and residential areas. You go at your own pace, so there's no pressure to go with the group. If you're desiring a fast and challenging ride, then you move up in the line. And if you're casual and want to take it slow, you can stay in the back. The van will always be in the back blocking cars, so you're safe. Just enjoy. We also made frequent breaks to rest and take photos. We took couple photos at scenic places and even took a photo with a chameleon. To summarize, this was one of the best way to experience this area of Maui. Highly, highly recommend Maui Easy Riders

See my review under Haleakala Bike Rental; highly recommend and top notch. 5 Stars there too! *Tell them you want to do Skyline Drive & they'll set you up!* Second, unless you have a local Maui friend to drive you up and drop you off at the Haleakala Summit, then you'll need to rent a car to drive back up to Summit after you are finished. Park 2nd car at Rice Park. ...you are ready... Now, to the important stuff. Oh- My Gosh! If you mtn bike, you GOTTA DO THIS ride! Totally Awesome! Not for novice, but intermediate is fine. Just go slow! Which is hard, since it's all downhill. Park at summit, leave car- our rented bike racks were still intact when we came back (thumbs up); then ride down road, make 1st and only right, go down paved road about a mile and on left you'll come up to a gate that says- SKYLINE TRAIL. No motorized vehicles. Go around gate and TA DA! Your adventure begins! 18 miles of Ah-M-azing Mountain Biking. Go through 2nd gate (of no return--or at least uphill- ummmm...not happening) We are "in!" Mostly loose lava rock first couple of miles, LOWER your seat!, but hang with it. So worth it! Not going to spoil it for you...If you like jumping logs (awww yeah!) and rolling hills, you will love this trail. Two final important things- a trail will lead into the one you are on, ignore it-.-from right side. Go up a bit farther. Turn right at Mamane Trail- you'll see the sign .....and when you finish Mamane Trail, make right toward Waipoli Road/Kula Highway.... Ends with nice paved road. Now go out there and kick it!

I saw mama and two chicks walking across, above the 1st visitor center. Slow down! Other then the sunrise time slot, you do not need a reservation. If you want to view the sunrise, try your luck at 7 pm few nights before. Also, if you habe missed it, you can sign up for an email notification for last minute cancelations. I was able to secure one but cancelled it later. Check the web site for camping and hiking. The merchandise at the gift shop was very reasonable. I loved the art work on their t shirts. Definitely recommend!

This is definitely one of the top five for me when it comes of things to plan when going to Maui. It was such a memorable thing to see and it really felt magical. We came just right before sunrise. The drive is a bit intimidating, but once you're up there, it is worth it. We were well above the clouds and when the sun broke through the clouds, it felt like I could cry. A fun excursion when in Maui!…read more We arrived at 4:30am at the pick up location and then drove up on the mountain to watch the sunrise (it was super cold, definitely bring some warm clothes!) We did 2, 6 mile bike rides from Mille marker 9 down to 3. Then went to the little town at the bottom for breakfast and finished with another 4 mile ride back to the original location. Our guide, Joe, was the highlight of the experience. He was so funny, but also made you feel very comfortable during the ride. The views were beautiful and was so fun to watch the sun come up! You don't have to be an expert bike rider to participate, but you do go pretty fast so defintely recommended to be comfortable on a bike. (Always the option to ride down in the van if you feel uncomfortable). The ride was a little scary for me personally, but fun to try something out of my comfort zone! Would recommend for those who would like an exhilarating experience!

Hiking here was one of the highlights of my trip to Maui this summer. It's not a hike with…read morespectacular views but it's a beautiful hike with forest cover and is not strenuous at all. I loved that it was dog friendly and provides plenty of shade on a hot summer day in Maui. It's cooler here as it's upcountry so good to get a jacket. I picked up some food from pukalani Superette, so it made for a perfect picnic! Read the signs carefully as there are some parts that are for bikers only and they come fast and can crash into you. Overall, I loved coming here and exploring upcountry in Maui. If you need sometime away from the sun, come here, you will be in awe of nature and it's a nice contrast to the beaches in wailea (at least to me!).
