I've had my other daughter in dance before and it was so expensive to buy 1 costume for the 1 dance her class did in the recital.

We'd visited a couple of schools before in the last few months, and by far this was this was the right choice for him. Upon arrival, Master Young is very clear on the goals they teach and expect for children. What I really love and appreciate is the communication from him and Mrs. Michelle Young. We thought perhaps 4 years old was too young for Karate. But I have observed how patient and sweet they are with all the little ones during class session. While he's only been there for about a month, he is super excited about learning, and attending class 3 times a week. This routine has proven very good for him as well and he enjoys it tremendously. Glad to have our son be a part of an outstanding school that implements discipline, focus and respect, while providing fun physical activity for young ones. If you are considering enrolling your child in any Martial Arts, CD Young is highly recommended

They have activities at the park, they celebrate each & every holiday. They do Halloween sparring tournaments & allow the kids to wear their favorite costumes, they shut down their parking lot & create a truck or treat, with hunted dojo suitable for every age group. (None scary, little scary & a lot scary). They do Easter egg hunt, meet Santa etc. They do ninja night, with food, drinks, fun activities & movies for the kids. They offer summer camp. I would definitely recommend this place. My son has learned great skills on how to walk away from a situation instead of throwing the first punch & how to speak up, yell for help & to defend himself. They work hard to reach out kids self defense & also have fun.

Now at 10 years old, he has worked his way through the belt ranks and has become one of the most senior students in his class. His confidence has improved tremendously--he listens well, follows direction, and his performance in school has improved as well. One of the things I really appreciate about this school is the variety of martial arts they offer. Students have the opportunity to train in traditional Karate (kata and stances), Aikido (gentle, flowing techniques), and Jiu Jitsu (ground defense and control), depending on their interests. Another reason we continue to stay is Shihan Smith. He truly takes the time to connect with each student and teach in a way they understand, offering the right balance of motivation, discipline, and encouragement. I highly recommend Traditional Karate & Aikido to anyone--whether you have prior experience or are just starting out.

In May of 2023, my daughter decided that she would like to try boxing at another facility but still continue with her karate. After one of her classes at the karate studio, I mentioned to Shihan that Savannah was taking boxing classes also. He made a sarcastic comment to me about my decision but I laughed it off while walking out the door because I thought he was kidding. When I came back to pick up Savannah after her class the following week, he brought up the boxing and said he still wasn't over what I had said last week in front of the other parents. I wasn't sure how to respond to this remark and said I didn't know what he was upset about. He said that we could discuss it in his office so him and I and Savannah went into his office and he laid into me like I was one of his students. He said that he did not appreciate that I had Savannah in a boxing class when she should be putting more effort into her karate class. There was so many more unacceptable words that he used towards me as a parent in front of my daughter, that I finally stood up and told him that he was not going to talk to me in that manner; That I was doing the best that I could with Savannah and we walked out. S. Smith Sensei spoke to me in a manner that was totally unprofessional and unacceptable and I pulled Savannah from his classes. She has been at his establishment for over six years, and it was very disheartening to know that he felt it necessary to talk to another adult in that manner. And this is an individual who follows in the Lord and uses the Lord's prayer in the beginning of class, and his business is a Christian Karate establishment. The wolves in Sheep's clothing are lying everywhere.

CORE is truly unlike any other studio. Plenty of places can teach form, routine, and the fundamentals of martial arts--but it's something entirely different when a studio becomes a community, a family, and a place where real friendships grow. We had to take several months off this past year due to a demanding work schedule, and when we stepped back onto the mat last week, it felt like we never left. My kiddo was welcomed back with open arms and genuine smiles. After that very first class, I could see the difference in him--more confident, more grounded, and just so incredibly happy to be back. This studio checks every box. These amazing students learn far more than taekwondo--they learn discipline, respect, resilience, and confidence. And yes, the instructors are absolute experts in their craft. Words alone can't express the appreciation and love we have for this place. We can't wait to see where this journey takes us next.

I wanted…read moreto leave a message for any parents who are on the fence about having their children train in martial arts, especially their daughters. Master Black presented my daughter with her black belt just before she turned 16, and this experience has been so much more than I expected. I know it wasn't always easy for her to persevere; Master Black had to have a serious heart-to-heart with her once (I think it was at the high green or low brown belt level). As a single parent, it was often challenging for me to find the money to pay for these classes or to ask friends for help with pick-ups and drop-offs when I couldn't manage it myself. Yes, I'm incredibly proud of her, and it's fun to say she's a black belt--though she won't tell you that herself. However, as the world has only gotten crazier over the years, the real value of this training has become clear. Allowing my child the freedom to explore life has been so much easier knowing she can handle herself. I cherish the memories of watching her flip 6-foot-tall Mr. Avery over her head from a choke hold multiple times (Bless you, Mr. Avery!) and of the time a salesman in a furniture warehouse startled us and I saw her immediately go into a stance without hesitation--then it was his turn to be startled, I saw his eyes go wide. These are the thoughts I hold onto as I try to sleep, knowing my daughter is "out there in the world" and not under my roof. So do it--go meet Master Black, show up, and don't give up. Thank you, Master Black and the USSD family; it truly took a village. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
