It is well positioned within walking distance of the county library, the YMCA, and the soccer fields. It boasts lovely walking trails, a frisbee golf course (which while usable could use some TLC), a lovely little creek with a charming covered bridge to cross it, and a multi-tiered playground which is among my favorite playgrounds in the surrounding counties because of it's lovely rural setting, its shade from the tree coverage, its new playground equipment, and its easy proximity to the creek area. We have an easy time navigating with a range of kids. Parents can position themselves between the playground where the younger kids can play, and the creek where the more nature-oriented kids want to explore, while it's safe enough for the teens to venture up to the library or to hike through the network of easily navigable trails. There are two covered picnic areas with grills. There are benches at the playground areas. In a delightfully educationally inspired move, the gardens and forests closest to the playgrounds and trails have their flora labeled so you can learn about the plants in the area. There is a texture garden near the parking lot with plants designed to touch and feel. One of the trails is an exercise trail with equipment stations for pull-ups, balance beam, and other outdoor workouts. Just a delightful spot right where you'd least expect it.

Undoubtedly the best park in town! Unfortunately, there's often no one else there. Hopefully,…read morethat will change and this will help the word get out. Here, you get it all--shade sail covering the adult area with many picnic tables, a separate patio area for adults with chairs, a giant playpen-like structure with a bouncy ball in it and lined with garage tiles for safe falls for younger toddlers. There is a play set for younger kids and for older. I would say about age 3 to about 8 or 10. There is a car on a spring that rocks; a big, spiral slide, straight slights, a fake climbing mountain with seats on top, and tons and tons of options to climb and swing, including a jungle gym and even spiral-style monkey bars (they go in circle, rather than just in a straight line. There's a balance beam, different types of swings, and really everything you could possibly want. All that's missing is the kids, really. Absolutely amazing place. The greatest likelihood to catch other kids to play with is before lunchtime. The only downside is that there is zero shade on the actual playground itself. Very important note: This place is public and at the back of a church parking lot. Turn in right beside the blue library sign, and drive alllll the way back. You cannot see the playground from the street at all, not even upon turning into the lot.

It is nice, quiet, peaceful and they always have interesting activities for adults and children alike. They also have a free library and sell firewood. The bathrooms are spotless. The employees are by and large very friendly and helpful (with exception of the young female ranger who told my sister in law "You have legs! You can hike, can't you?" She may want to brush up on the Americans with Disabilities Act and learn not to be so, as they say "ableist") I also love their gift shop. They have fun t-shirts, pins, stickers etc. I look forward to coming back--I love this park and Powhatan.

The RV lots are spacious, wooded, and impeccably clean, with gravel pads, picnic tables, and even metal posts for lanterns--great little details that show how well the campground is maintained. We arrived just after 4 PM, which is the cutoff for staffed check-in, but our site was clearly marked with our reservation on the post--smooth and stress-free. We didn't use the restrooms or other facilities, but from what we saw, everything looked clean and well cared for. The campground itself is large, with lots of quiet roads for walking or biking, and big open fields that add to the peaceful atmosphere. Each site has a nice wooded buffer for privacy--we barely noticed other campers even though it looked to be about 60% full on a weekday. We had electric and water hookups at our site. No sewer hookups, but the dump station was easy to access. Rates were very reasonable, especially given the serenity and space you get here. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet, scenic, and well-kept camping experience near Richmond. We'll definitely be back!
