In every case, the staff and maintenance crews were very professional in their efforts to keep the apartment running and the residents happy. If you are nature lover, they have a duck pond which is more laden with geese though there are a few ducks there and a rooster who crows from 5 AM to 5 PM at times. That is, until she completely ghosted us and dropped the ball on the application process. We were told multiple times, at the tour and leading up to applying, that we could recover our administrative fees (not the application fees) if we decided not to move forward or if our application was denied. Well, once we saw how poorly things were going and how the leasing consultant dropped off the map, we got a bad feeling and decided to back out and request our money back. After no response initially when asking when we would get the fees back, the leasing consultant tried to be clever and left a message for my (grown but much younger) roommate /family member whom she had never dealt with the entire time except for meeting them at the tour. As she was being avoidant with me, I guess she thought this was the weakest link.(This is absolutely untrue! Interestingly, as soon as we pulled up for the tour - before even going inside - my roommate said "THIS IS A NO". This is a very intuitive and wise person whose vibes about something are always very strong and accurate.) She stated in the voice message that the application never went through and that because of this, we couldn't get our administrative fees back. We did our part and had evidence we did. So, why? I'll tell you why. SHE didn't do her part to get it to the next stage of processing, whether purposely for some reason or inadvertently, and as a result, we had to pay the price for this - literally and figuratively. She took no ownership for this, but if it was purposeful, then why would she? I wonder what happens to the money because it doesn't just end up in a black hole. Someone has it. Seems unfair and unethical. I called their home office about it, but no one ever responded. Can't say that's surprising because the pattern of poor service often trickles down from the top. I'm actually glad we didn't end up living here. Even though the overall score on other review platforms is acceptable and some are high, many of the specific, less positive reviews share common themes. Additionally, everyone has a different standard of excellence depending on their personality and prior experiences elsewhere. Sometimes that thing that seems great, really isn't. It's only an improvement from the prior. (For example, if we were previously unhoused, then ANY home - no matter how bad - might seem amazing.) In summary, this place seems professional and nice at first, but the true colors eventually come out and the facade is evident. Definitely beware of wolves in sheep clothing here. I do not recommend it, no matter how pretty, new, and shiny it is.

First, the pros: the Porterdale Mill Lofts is a visually stunning and interesting place to live. It's full of history and character. As other reviewers have said, each unit is a little bit different, which adds intrigue among residents; we like to show our units to our friends and comment about unique aspects of our own space. The ceilings are high, the windows are gorgeous, the building is clean and full of friendly people. The staff is out of this world--helpful, welcoming, and quick to respond to any little thing. I've always felt safe here and my husband and I have really enjoyed being here. It feels like home, not like a transitory apartment-living situation. Now onto the cons: I've heard that in A and B buildings, the noise of neighbors is very limited. Unfortunately, this hasn't always been the case in our apartment, located in C. Honestly, though, I think we've just had really loud neighbors who cackle and play video games into the night, usually not even beginning until 10pm. I will say this: when we've called the after hours number, someone has ALWAYS taken care of the issue in only a few minutes' time. Because the ceilings are a bazillion feet high, your power bill will be a bit of a booger. If you control your thermostat, you'll be fine. It just takes a little practice. The pool is nice, but the music is nearly always country and residents (for understandable reasons) do not have access to change the station; bring your ear buds if you aren't a Carrie Underwood fan. Sometimes the "locals" wander in, despite posted signs that declare the pool for "PML Residents ONLY." If you call maintenance, they'll shoo them out in no time flat. Overall, this is a wonderful place to live. Porterdale has been neglected for a long time but is making a comeback. Many of the "cons" associated with living in the Lofts are not the fault of the staff; it's more an issue of location. Many of the locals are curious about the building and can sometimes be annoying, but the Lofts staff cannot be everywhere at once. All entrances are passcode protected and the staff is very responsive. I recommend this place all the time and we are happy to stay here for another year. This is the only apartment-style living arrangement we'd even consider outside of Atlanta.
