We were promptly seated and given water. A different server came to take our order and we already knew which teas we wanted. Our food arrived shortly afterwards and was delightful. There was also a pianist in the adjoining room playing Christmas songs. Afternoon tea is not inexpensive, especially with local and national tax, but it is a lovely treat for yourself. We signed the bill to our room and enjoyed the experience.

Best. idea. ever. It gave us plenty of time to chat with each other, graze our way through pots of tea and three tiers of awesomeness, plus every spare inch of space on the table was filled with "additional" desserts. We compared favorites at the end and a few things rose above the crowd, but even our "meh" items within this extensive list would have been pretty darn good on any other list, it's just that the bar was set so high, and still the superlatives were surprisingly topped. The only thing that would make this better would be a printout of what was on the table once everything was served, because even though the servers explained everything, there was so much, we had to repeated ask them on their return loops what some of the items were. (There's a tea house near home that does that consistently and it makes our lives better.) When all's said and done, two of us liked the lavender-citrus dessert best UNTIL trying the strawberry shortcake dessert and then both changed their favorite to that. Two of us liked the smoked salmon best, but dealt with it differently -- it was on the bottom layer with the savories, so we both tried it first, but one ate it all up right away and the other saved it after the first bit and finished it last, after the sweets. One liked her pot of tea best -- she'd gone with #3, the Grand Bazaar Spice, which has cardamom, cloves, and anise, and which actually 3 at the table chose for their tea. (The other ones picked were Creamy Earl Grey, Imperial Breakfast, and Ontario Ice Wine.) And the final favorite was the hazelnut cream puff. The scones were also truly delightful, and I need to remember more often to indulge in orange marmalade. Also, the opening sparkling tea? So much better than sparkling cider!

It is a awesome change from some of the foo foo bistros in old Town Quebec City in that you get a tremendous bang for your buck and quality food cheap at 'Continents. What really gets me is looking at the reviews of this place right after I saw some lady's yelp review of a expensive Quebec City restaurant that complimented the single crispy grape tomato that came with her food. Geez Louise gimme a break. Bottom line if you are visiting Quebec City and happen to have a hot date (or if you want to gawk at people's hot dates) choose the expensive bistro. If you are a tourist with kids, coming to Buffet les Continents is a sure shot and should be a no brainer. It's only a few miles away from the old Town and they have a parking lot. Also kids up to 12 years old are free! Coffee is included too! The salad here was fresh with a decent array of stuff. From cucumbers to tomatoes, spinach to hardboiled eggs. The mussels were tasty, decent sized and not sandy (gotta love that we are in Quebec) and the linguini was cooked pretty well. Meat sauce spaghetti was also pretty good. They had a pretty nice spread overall for a lunch buffet. Pesto pasta, fettuccine, even aisles of food from different continents (hence the name). Hop from one aisle where you go from Greek souvlaki and Greek grilled chicken to the other with mapo tofu and other Asian fare. They also had salmon and several other tasty fishes, and ice cream. Smoked meat at the meat carving station tasted almost as good as the restaurant near my hotel (Radio Cafe in Beaupre) that charged $2.75 extra for a small sprinkling of smoked meat on my poutine. It was no Schwartz on St Laurent in Montreal but it was good. I went back for my third helping of smoked meat. The servers were so gracious. Always telling us bon Appétit and was so happy with the 20% tip we left. It wasn't much being 20% of $15 per adult (and 4 kids eating free) but she was really happy.

Had great convo with him about American politics. Ambiance - was pretty chill. Went towards the end of lunch time so there weren't many people hence I didn't have to wait long for my orders. We didn't care since it was rainy and was not in a great rush. After us, a few more customers came in and pretty much everyone was doing the AYCE. The way it works is you write down the item # and followed by quantity. They did emphasize that you will be penalized should you waste any food twice before we actually placed our order. We waited a good 20-30 minutes or so before we were served actual food. The waiter did hand us the Japanese seaweed salad quickly as that didn't need to be cooked. BTW, everything is served as 1pc! So in preparation for the long wait, we were ordering our next order as the wait was long. Waiter was handing food 1 by 1. Midway during our lunch we were informed that the French couple eating at the other table was done and that the "OWNER" preferred the French way of ppl eating AYCE. As they hardly ate anything, left and paid AYCE price. I was like what the ....! To top it off we were asked multiple times if we were full. The whole situation was so absurd and laughable. Was I eating for free? Last time I checked I was a paying customer. If they felt cheated regarding the price versus quantity of eating they should have thought of that as NOT all people walking to through their door will eat like a bird! Food wise it was okay. The udon broths were good, we had seafood and spicy beef. Seafood fried rice was good. In terms of sushi and hand roll, fish to rice ratio was 1 to 3. It was pretty much all rice, I guess this is how they make up their margin. Also, no tuna it was just pretty much salmon. Shrimp tempura was okay. The sushi pizza was swimming in mayo. We ordered 1x Grilled Saury but was informed much later that they don't have it. Drinks are not included in the AYCE. So if you want to be harassed and be constantly reminded of how much you shouldn't be eating, then come here. Or if you need a no frill lunch and dinner at a decent pricing then this is the spot for you.

However, the food itself was quite disappointing. It was marketed to us as a high-end, fancy dining experience, but the food quality was meh. It was bland, particularly the rice and veggies. As for the different meat/protein options, it was alright. Nothing shockingly fancy, each individual sauces does complement the meat well, but not as flavourful as I had initially anticipated. The maple duck drumstick was a cool addition as that's something I haven't tried before, but as you can see from the photo, barely any meat.. portion sizes were also not huge as they strive for that "fancy" dining experience. Atmosphere, location, interior were all great. I had salmon and it was really good. This might not be a place for big groups but it is perfect for a date night. My colleagues and I decided to stop here for a lunch break and were thoroughly disappointed. To be frank, disgusted is more appropriate of a term to describe it. Food: Nauseating. Slimy. Unpalatable. Fishy AF. Greasy. Oily. Deeply unsettling. Almost no fish in the sushi "rolls" and extremely disproportionate fish-to-rice ratio in the nigiri orders. Spicy mayo was alright and perhaps the only saving grace, but I don't think this helps their case... Service: I'm sure the people who work here are lovely, but perhaps not while on the job. We had no designated "waiter/waitress" and relied on whoever's attention we could manage to grab for any service whatsoever. One of them frequently ignored our verbal requests while another seemed disgruntled at even the most basic request. They never tended to our table and only brought us our complete order after multiple, repeated asks. As I sit here, we have waited over 20 minutes for our final order of ice cream, which involves zero preparation. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
