For lunch, they had some special prix fixe menu where you can choose a starter, entree, and dessert. I chose the Asparagus Mousseline Sauce, Basquaise chicken, and chocolate cake. The white asparagus was so beautiful and delicious. The basquaise chicken was this very homey dish....so satisfying and just hit the spot, with rice that soaked up the sauce. WOW!!! I want to try and recreate this dish at home. The chocolate cake I had for dessert was just okay, no big deal. The dinner was also a set menu, that had come with my hotel reservation (some package with Chateau Cordeillan-Bages). It was similar to the lunch, but different items to choose from. I ended up getting the Salmon Gravlax starter. Wow...this was a treat. The salmon was so silky and melt in your mouth!!! For my entree, I got the Lined Hake with seasoned veggies. The fish was cooked so perfectly, very juicy! My husband got the Foie Gras Terrine for his appetizer, another wow. We've gotten this in the past from other places, but this one was quite amazing, especially not having eaten it for a while!! He also got the Beef Undercut with mashed potatoes for his entree, which he loved. My dessert was "wine strawberries" which sounds weird - it literally was wine and strawberries, but it tasted great. The strawberries were perfectly ripe, and it somehow went with the wine. My husband got some lava chocolate cake, and it was too sweet. Every single savory item here was a huge hit, and beautiful presentation too. I really wish I could have eaten here another 2 times to try everything on the menu!!! Fun setting too. At lunch, we sat inside in their dining room, which had a cute bustling bistro feel. At dinner, everyone sat outside on the patio, enjoying the warm weather and sunset. Lovely! The service was excellent, any questions we had wer perfectly answered and they catered to any requirements that we had. There was no problem in communicating in English with either the staff or Joss (who is much better than he lets on!!) The food..... Wow, the starter was by far the best we have ever had!! A great mixture and so much!! Nothing was left though. We had a selection of three mains and although they were all food we could only select two. I went for the beef, which I asked to be cooked medium (beware the French like meats very rare!!) it was very tasty but my wife went for the duck, and I instantly had food envy!! Both were served with perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables that complimented the meats perfectly. We left not only full but confident we had made the best choice for our wedding day. On the day Joss also did the canapés, they were out of this world, oysters, prawns and meats all cooked fresh on the bbq in the garden of our chosen venue. Even months after the wedding, guests are still commenting on how good they were... I only wished I had time to eat more, luckily Joss personally made sure we aleast tried a bit of each. The wedding meal was for 90 people and was executed perfectly with no complaints from our guests, we even managed to cater for vegans without any additional fuss. I'm not a deswrt person, but the selection we had was also very good and left everyone sharing to make sure they got to try everything. I cannot recommend enough Joss and his teams food and I'm sure after you have experienced it you will feel the same.

I asked the table next to me (as I was alone) what they thought of the very same dish they were both eating. They said they ate duck 4 times in this town up to now and this was the best. However they agreed it still wasn't excellent. Free WiFi. After I asked, the waiter said the restaurant had opened recently, and the owner is the chef cook. He also said that they keep the prices the same all year round, where some other restaurants raise the prices during summer. I would say 4 stars but with the location definitely a 5 star restaurant anyway.

A walk along the country lane after an interesting, satisfying meal, prepare one for after dinner desserts and/or drinks. "Casual and VERY classy" is how the experience is best described. For example, I arrived with 3 elderly guests, all with some mobility issues, and Chaz immediately brought out padded chairs from the dining room as he recognized that old bodies would have a difficult time sitting for any length of time on the typical 'minimalist' patio chairs that are usually found outdoors. (We were in for a 3-hr lunch, so this was a great idea)!! Le Caillau is a 300-year-old wine domaine, and the complex includes a luxury 2-bedroom suite, including private swimming pool and garden. (NOTE: We have dine there many times, but never stayed overnight, so cannot speak to the accommodations, other than saying EVERYTHING is tastefully decorated and service at all levels is impeccable).
