I can always use greens so I appreciated that on the side with the creamy burrata and some sort of breadstick that went with it. It had like a Rasberry glaze that was really tasty. Now the Risotto I admittedly didn't realize was Vegan. I think I saw Risotto and just moved on to dessert after...However it was still amazing. The veggies were fresh and pasta itself tasted really good. The dish actually had a lighter vibe to it but I wasn't mad it. Finally the Tout Chocolate was tastier then I thought it was going to be. You see Popcorn on the menu and kind of question it but the crunch oddly works. We arrived on time and were immediately taken into the heart of this historic winery. Apparently it was started by the area leader who also initiated the entire wine region system of France. Chateau neuf de pape is the first recognized region in all of France so the tour took on some meaning for us knowing this. Fortia bottles their own wine, 5 varieties all red and two whites. We saw their historic aging and production areas, the guide gave meaningful information and responded to questions well. The oak casks are fascinating as are the stacks of bottles aging in the cellar. Apparently they build and destroy the vast casks on-site as they are so huge and cost 40k euro a piece! Fascinating. The tasting followed and was as smooth as the wine. We particularly enjoyed the traditional reds, full of flavor from the oak casks. The guide knew the region well and explained the Rhone river valley and it's relation to the winery. We bought a number of bottles, very pleased with the day.

The area has such a rich wine growing history with so many different wine styles to sample. We couldn't believe that Les Caves offers FREE 60-minute wine tastings, and scheduling could not be easier on Les Caves' user-friendly website. We arrived and were greeted by a lovely, knowledgeable woman who enthusiastically guided us downstairs into an intimate, private tasting room. Les Caves has several private tasting rooms, each below ground and designed as mini caves. For an hour our host guided us through six different local wines, each distinctive in style. At the conclusion, we were free to exit Les Caves owing nothing. Of course, we bought a mixed case of fantastic wine that can't be purchased in the U.S. Les Caves was a highlight of our visit to this legendary wine growing region.

The soup was fabulous, as was the amazing risotto! The fish and lamb mains were each perfect as was the cheese board! The use of local, fresh vegetables in almost every dish is wonderful. The feeling of eating so very well and still very healthily is a bonus! Wines from the Domaine la Citadelle our hostess Margaux brought with each dish were also excellent. The room is newly completed and gorgeous, the service was incredible, and the price was also very reasonable. Restaurants like this are part of why we so love France!

Set in a beautiful location, the drive to this place you pass lovely vineyards. The building is beautifully constructed and it has a gift shop if you happen to like souvenirs that are tasteful and elegant. We were greeted by a very sweet lady with bright red hair. She was so worldly wise and made for excellent conversation while we sipped the wines. She spoke English and give us a wonderful history of the grapes, how they are classified by terrain and they're famous corkscrew museum. She'll ask you what you like to drink rather than go through all the wines like a mill. I happen to like white and rose wines but we enjoyed everything so much we tried out the Reds. They also happen to have a medicinal herbal garden which is worth visiting with kids. It is a shame that it is difficult to import French wines, because wines from other countries and even American wines use way too many sulfites. The French use few sulfites, and their wine is impeccable. We got two rose's and a red- the Artemis rose and the gouverneur red. We will be back!

That's a lot of faith given that the bottles are over 100€ depending on the vintage. There's not much to see at the winery. We did tour through to see their barrels, but it was more educational than a sightseeing visit. And really, once you've seen one barrel you've seen them all.

Loved the wines here…read more.. So much so we bought 3 bottles, including one of their high end Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Le Secret des Sabon without tasting it. I'm glad that we can buy some of these in the states too. Because I know I'll be wanting to restock at some point!
