I've been coming to Le Vin for many years and really enjoy it. The food is generally very good, the service attentive and atmosphere relaxed.
The good: the steak tartare is as good as almost anywhere in the world. The omelettes show classical technique and are delicious. The cappuccinos are very good (maybe a little too much froth) as are the desserts. The croque monsieur is absolutely fantastic.
The bad: I'm not a big fan of their bread. It tries very hard to be classic French - the kind you find in Paris: very crusty with a very subtle flavor and texture, but, sadly, it misses the mark.
Today, I had the tomato and mozzarella tartine and it was the first real misstep I've had at the restaurant. The salad was limp and soggy and over-dressed and the bread was soggy and revolting. Again, the bread was the real problem - too delicate and porous for a tartine (the water content from the tomatoes was too much) and I think what happened is it was kept under a heater too long while the chef made the omelette (which was very good).
Still, all in all, excellent. read more
