Interpersonal skills are a requirement when dealing with people in general. Seeing a customer and ignoring them is never good; saying a simple "hold on, or I'll be a second" doesn't cost anything. Ignoring customers is a vain way of showing you don't want and or don't care about having their business. Even when asking questions for my order, the nonchalant irritable attitude made me want to leave.
