The food was good but lacked finesse. My wife's seafood dish was well cooked and tasted great. However, the plate it was served upon was too small for the meal. My potato gratin tasted good but was too "wet" and should have been cooked a bit longer to achieve a crust on top and reduce the liquid a bit. Again, both dishes tasted good. We were there on a cold night. Inside it was also cold. Many customers had their jackets on; I finally put mine on about half way through the meal. The chairs were most uncomfortable! Both my wife and noticed how bad the seating was - the chairs kinda made you lean forward; they were most unpleasant. I'd eat here again but would NOT eat inside sitting on the uncomfortable chairs. If inside were the only choice we'd walk on by and find somewhere else.

As a main course I had the Alsatian Tarte Flambé white pizza (no tomato sauce) which has a thin crust, "creme fraiche" (a cross between yoghurt and sour cream) with bacon and cheese. The portions are large. The onion tart was delicious and the Tarte Flambé very good. Crowded in the evening but with good service.

Located on a very nice square on the Grand Rue. It was still fully booked, but a table got just available. Outside, on this very nice and sunny day. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Ordered two beer, six escargots (snails) and a skirt steak with Foie Gras on top (Rossini style, just without redwine reduction). Staff was ok, pretty busy, but fine. Prices really fair here. The steak was ok, not the highest quality - but good value. Nice combination with the Foie Gras though. Fries were nicely presented, hot and crispy. The real surprise were the Escargot. Nice, big snails. A very fresh and rich garlic/parsley sauce. For 7 Euros a real steal and some of the best escargots we've had yet. All in all an enjoyable place. Not perfect, but fair priced and good to grab some lunch.

We got our table right away, and sat down to eat. We ordered some Alsatian local specialties like Au Rhain and Six Meats and Sauerkraut (photos). The food unfortunately was just OK for us. I had better Au Rhain before elsewhere, and though Alsatian sauerkraut had very unique taste compared to typical German one, I'd rather had some German sauerkraut instead. Six meats were OK, and they were nothing so special that I had to come back for some more. Well, we tried is all I can say about our dining experience here. Service was very good. I wish it were better food that we enjoyed more. I hope you have better luck with it.

Presentation, taste, & service were all outstanding, supported by an extensive wine list. My wife, daughter, & I all agreed this was one of the two best meals during our vacation in Alsace and Switzerland. And while the town of Riquewihr can be over-the-top touristy during the day, by dinner time the crowds are gone and the town reclaims its charm.

The first night we had the Menu 48E (63E with wine pairing). The Espuma of potatoes with mushrooms, escargots, bacon and onions was rich, earthy and sublime. The Simmental beef was excellent and was beautifully complimented by an exquisite sweet potato gratin layered with a delicate sweet potato puree. The apple tarte was so beyond perfection that I can't even find words to adequately describe the intensity of flavor. The second night we had the Menu 32E (47E with wine pairing). The crab tartare was lovely and the roast salmon, with slightly smoky flavor, was excellent. Both evenings started with an amuse bouche of warm asparagus soup with what was described as a coffee cream with nuts. It was delicious. The wine pairings were absolutely perfect as was the Cremant aperitif. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Impeccably nuanced food, rich and yet not heavy, warm atmosphere, excellent service.
