We stayed here for 4 days while in Venice. The room sleeps 4 people comfortably. The decor was a mix of elegance and antique. Our room had two windows that you can open and people watch from or just to leave it open for fresh air to come in at night while you sleep. They also serve daily continental breakfast which was pretty delicious. The staff here are really nice and friendly. The Antico Doge was a real find.

The room had a private bathroom with a bidet (can't say how it worked, but if it's important to you, it's there) and a nice shower, and they provided a 2-in-1 shampoo/shower gel, and ample towels. The breakfast had good coffee (cappuccino, hot chocolate, pretty much anything you wanted, they could make), with a limited amount of mostly sweet pastries and fruit. I'd stay again, if I returned to Venice, as its location was near both the water bus station, a private taxi mooring, and several restaurants.

We entered the room to find it small, dark, not well appointed, not set up as requested,nor anything like the pictures on line for a "Superior" room. After a long trip, we now had to go back to the lobby and lodge our disappointment and concerns with the Manager. After hearing some excuses, we were told our luggage would be transferred to another room. This room was much better, but still not as was posted on their website. The hallway leading to the room was pretty gross. The elevator was tiny and in rough shape. The floor buttons with hotel room numbers were stuck on with peel and stick labels that were coming off. The carpet in the corridor leading to the room was dirty, stained, discolored and threadbare. The room once inside was much better than the first one. At night when going to sleep, we tried lowering the temp in the room Only to find nothing would happen. Needless to say we had a horrible night sleep (mostly sleepless) as the room was too warm. The next morning we asked at the front desk what the problem is with the A/C. We were told, "the temp in the room (regardless if what the thermostat shows) is controlled by us. All you had to do is call us and we would have turned the A/C on. We couldn't believe what we were hearing. We then proceeded to ho to breakfast that looked super on the website. We were also told that breakfast including the buffet and a la carte was included. The buffet looked nothing like the pictures on their website. Adding insult to injury when my wife requested a couple of poached eggs, she was told it would cost 10 euros each. The scrambled eggs in the buffet were so runny they were inedible, and possibly dangerous to eat. The bacon was gross, undercooked and swimming in grease. The pastries were dried out and tasteless. Anything they ran out of was not replenished even though we were at breakfast almost 2 hours before we were told they stop service. Coffee took a long time to be served. Several times it was served after our eggs were served and getting cold. Out of the 4 servers at breakfast, the only one that spoke English and knew what she was doing was the Manager, Uliana. She was great but literally had no help. The others wandered aimlessly around. We are at a loss to understand how a Hotel as bad as this one could be rated 4 stars. Giving it 2.5 would be more than generous. This Hotel was the worst Hotel we've had the misfortune to stay in during our 3 week vacation including Italy and France. It will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

At a hotel of this caliber, I would have expected a freshly made replacement and a more professional response. When we mentioned this to the server, she grew frustrated with the cooks and took it back again. At that point, we lost confidence in the food service altogether and decided to return to our room without dinner. For a hotel that presents itself as high-end, this was genuinely one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had.

In fairness it's August but I'd like a room to at least be in the 70s to sleep. Now I'm grumpy and they won't turn on the coffee machine until 8am. Location is good but be advised there is no elevator. That is not a big deal to us but it might be to some.
