The plus side? Absolutely spectacular setting with a gorgeous view over the lower river and the château just across the way. Very nice service. Loved sitting outdoors. The food? Not the place for great cuisine, but it does provide good drinks and good bar food. We decided to try something simpler after several days of fine French coming and this was a perfect break. We walked up and were seated immediately at one of the promo tables right along the river edge. The view of the chateaus was great and kept getting better as Sunday came and the colored lights highlighted the imposing fortress. We both had their burger. A multi-layer monster that is hard to get your mouth around. It's one of those burgers where you need to leave in and get your elbows up and out of the way. Tasty meat and tomatoes, lettuce, onion and bacon on a good but with an interesting dressing. Great place to satisfy a burger craving. My wife had a cocktail which was both large and strong and I had a beer. They are primarily a bar so had a menu of many cocktails sorted by liquor. Also an extensive beer menu, so something for everyone. Not expensive, but not cheap either, but the view makes it a good deal! read more

After waited an hour, before we leave, I decided to ask the waitress why she didn't serve us because it felt like we were discriminated by the way we look. I didn't even have time to have a conversation with the waitress before the owner of the Shaker started to yell at me and tell me that I should be patient and wait and I should understand that it is busy. Then he took the time to tell his waiting staff not to serve me and was refusing to serve me and my family. Unfortunately for him, I have worked 13 years in bars and restaurants, in France and US. So I know that restaurants and bars can be busy, and I know how to handle such busy place as a waiter or restaurant manager. I don't mind waiting, but waiting an hour is a little too long. Ever longer when the two table next to you, I mean almost touching each other, get service, their food and drink, and we get nothing. 5 tables sat after us and got service. I literally felt discriminated because we were American, and look as such. Since I know people who live in Amboise, I asked if they had any idea why they didn't serve us, to my surprise, they said that us being tourist didn't work at our advantage. The Shaker seems to care more about locals and don't find important to serve tourist, or at least American tourists. So if you go there, be aware, and don't go when it is busy or don't go at all. Very poor customer service. A bar or restaurant being busy is not a reason to yell at a customer. Now on a positive note, if you decide to go to the Shaker, the view is great. The good thing is, you can still take great photo without being a customer at the bar. read more

Awesome place to come to while in Amboise for a dessert/drink. We did not eat the food so I cannot speak for that but my boyfriend and I got drinks and dessert while overlooking the river and it was amazing. The waiter was soo friendly as well! Well worth a visit read more
