I have been going to Jan and Deily for the past year and a half, for various company projects, as…read morewell as my side-projects for my house and cars. So it has been due time for me to write a review for him. Before I do, I have to say it is funny to read other reviews on Yelp, like the one about pressing car bushings (which truly not even specialized car shops would do). I have to go back to Jan for that, because I did not know he did such things. I had given up on replacing bushings on my car, after being turned down by so many local auto shops and mechanics. Now for that reviewer that rated them badly for a four week lead time... what sort of expectation was that? A poorly-run machine shop has downtime to let anyone cut in. By all means go to those shops instead or pay an arm and a leg, if that is the expectation... however, Optima Precision operates like all properly run, established machine shops do... schedule your work into their operation or work an expedite out with Jan and Deily... We are even lucky they are open to our side-projects. Bottom line, talk it out with them. They are very open to making things happen! Anyways, just to give a little background, I formerly worked as a design engineer for Zodiac Aerospace's oxygen system division, that made a lot of pneumatic components such as valves and manifolds. I can certainly attest that Jan and Optima Precision has the expertise and capabilities to machine top-notch quality parts. Whether you are dealing with extruded, cold-pressed, tempered aluminum, steel or etc., or softer brittle plastics like plexiglass or acrylic, up to something like 6 feet by 4 feet (double check with him), he and his crew can take care of that. I originally went to Optima Precision because Jan and Deily were the more responsive, local machine shop. They are very approachable and easy to communicate with (their English is solid). Most importantly, their pricing and lead times were very competitive, compared to the other shops in the area. Easiest way to describe them is that they are flexible and understanding like the old machinists but they operate with the newer CNC mills (even though they have Bridgeports off to the side). In other words, they are not like other new machinists that refuse small orders and cannot think other than what their CNC machine tells them they can or cannot do. What do I mean by an old machinist? Jan did not just go off my engineering drawings, but he verified my design intent to make sure my parts would fit and functioned well in my application. He was more concerned with what I wanted my part to turn out as, rather than what his machines could or could not do. To affirm other reviews, Jan and Deily are truly open to make small quantities (even one or two pieces like other reviews stated) and, of course, scaling to large production quantities. If you have worked with machine shops enough, you would understand that Optima Precision is a no brainer to have your parts, at least, quoted there each time. Long review, but hope that helps you all when considering!

I approached Optima Precision to machine 2 simple holes in an automotive part. I explained exactly…read morewhat needed to happen and what the part was for. I mentioned I was not in a hurry and could leave it for the weekend. Before I could finish explaining and before price was even discussed I was interrupted and told the wait would be 4 weeks. To machine 2 holes? Shouldn't take a competent machinist more than 10 minutes. No thanks. I dropped the part off at another machine shop and had it back minutes later machined perfectly to specification.

I'd give 0 stars if that was an option…read more It pains me to speak negatively in this setting as we have never shed any light in belief it comes back around. However we have publicly supported this company, and sent many others in their direction therefore I feel it is my responsibility to caution others to be extremely careful when choosing who to trust with your business. We've had repeated issues with engines from Gromm Racing, with four consecutive failures occurring in less than five hours of runtime each. Despite thorough investigations, including sending oil samples for analysis (which returned clear results), we've been met with deflection and accusations. Gromm Racing claimed the oil analysis company was lying to protect their product's reputation. Our data logs confirmed that the engine operated within proper parameters, yet the failures--in some cases attributable to wear or fatigue--remain unexplained. Gromm Racing's primary excuses for these failures are that they were caused by driving on the limiter and a lack of oiling--claims that our data logs directly contradict. The logs show the engine was within proper parameters and had sufficient oiling. Upon further inspection, it was found that the main bearings were clearanced too tight, resulting in excessive crank damage, while the rod bearings showed no signs of heat or wear. Additionally, an oil sample revealed high volumes of aluminum, indicating significant piston wear, which was also evident upon inspection of the cylinder walls. To make matters worse, we've had countless issues with Gromm Racing losing hardware, engine drive accessories, and even valve train components. On one occasion, valve train parts had to be pulled off an employee's personal car just to complete our engine. Spare parts he deemed "not reusable" would be boxed up and taken to a storage room where we would have to request for them back. Additionally, a nitrous plate that was shipped with an intake was never found or returned, adding yet another layer of frustration to an already disappointing experience. Gromm Racing's lack of support and transparency further compounds these problems. They refuse to provide part numbers, engine clearances, or even replacement parts, claiming these are "trade secrets." Instead, we're told to "figure it out ourselves." Two years ago, we ordered billet main caps for an LSX block, paid for them, and never received them. The claim "I never billed you for a dyno session" was what we were met with when inquiring about them, however we were never invoiced and the main caps are still needed. The $4,500 block sat at their shop improperly stored and was allowed to rust, despite my repeated inquiries. Upon arrival to pick it up, I was told, "I would've cleaned it if I knew you were coming." Additionally, the blower engine was taken to Gromm Racing for a teardown, inspection, reassembly, dyno tuning, and return over two years ago. Despite countless missed deadlines, we still don't have the engine (it is now ready but not complete nor correct in terms of the injection lay out that was improperly redone nor the intake issue addressed). This repeated failure to meet commitments, coupled with an inflated ego and lack of accountability, is unacceptable.

For Brian Santos -- I hope you become even more successful. Thank you…read more Honesty. Integrity. Skill. This message is for anyone who values character, peace of mind, and happiness. I'm not very knowledgeable about cars, so finding someone both honest and skillful matters to me. Speed Element was recommended by my friend Ronan, who said this is where "car guys" go. I'm not a car guy--but Ronan is. He drives a Nissan GT-R with full carbon fiber throughout. I don't fully understand what that entails, but I trust his judgment. If he trusts Speed Element, that carries weight. Brian handled all communication and coordination, and from my first message on Yelp, everything was clear and transparent. He broke down pricing and parts in a way that was easy to understand, answered my questions patiently, and never made me feel rushed or pressured. Before I even came into the shop, Brian was already helping me over text when my car had trouble starting. Instead of pushing a sale, he suggested trying a battery tender first. That said a lot. By profession, I'm a doctor in rehabilitation and sports medicine. Most people don't fully understand what's happening in their own bodies, which is why transparency and patience are essential when working with patients. I shared this with Brian, and he said he approaches his work the same way. That philosophy resonated with me. The team in the back handled the work--wheel balancing, an oil change, and a battery replacement--and Brian coordinated everything smoothly, even applying a discount. I had a vibration between 50-70 mph, and Brian took a test drive with me to confirm it was resolved before I paid. The garage is open, so you can see the work being done throughout the process. Another small but telling detail: Brian offered to secure my belongings from the car in a safe location. It reinforced that professionalism isn't only about technical skill--it's about consideration. It also helped that we're both Filipino-American, which made communication easier and the interaction more natural, though the quality of service stood on its own regardless. No hidden fees. No surprises. Full transparency. If these values matter to you, go see Brian at Speed Element.
