Scrap it was the closest yard to me and it looked like it had a pretty good review so I decided to load my car and drive over to see how much I can get. The entrance to the scrap yard is on a street with actually other scrap yards. The entrance is highly visible and all you have to do is actually drive in and they have someone to help direct you to the right location to stop. They can pretty much tell if you need help so they walked right up to my window asked a few questions and had me popped the trunk so that they can take a magnet and start checking out my metal scrap. He identified which pile goes where and told me where to park the car but he first had me drive over the weight scale, to take the initial weight. He then basically told me to park in front of one pile unload, came back to weigh in again and then went to the second pile unload and came back to weigh in again. He printed me a receipt to bring to the pay office. I also had a big box of miscellaneous scrap metal, which he said I can just put inside a bin and cart it into the facility for a manual inspection. Overall, it was actually a pretty easy process. The workers they were actually very professional courteous and they were not condescending at all like they knew I was not familiar with the process and just guided me the whole way. We live about 30 minutes away, so it's a little bit of a hassle getting there... There is generally a line of trucks out front, but it moves quickly. Once there, if your materials are sorted, it will make it easier for everyone involved and for them to pay you cash. We went this morning and my husband was hoping for around $75 for our truck full of metal. We were pleasantly surprised when the grand total came to just under $240. Obviously if you clean and separate your copper pipes, you're going to get more than if they are lumped together with other materials. They even took a whole bin full of random cables and cords that I probably would've thrown in the trash had my husband not set them aside. We will continue to use this business for years to come.

Their helper…read moreillegal immigrants out in the yard encourage you to place and weigh your metals in "their own bins or roll carts" that way gives them leverage, control and thus manipulate by applying a "false tear weight to their own bins, carts" so you get cheated out of true and accurate weight. Don't trust them. They're a scam business. Highly recommend weigh your stuff at home prior to coming to them and weigh in "your own bins" not theirs. Otherwise you're at high risk of falling into their scam. Avoid them.

I had a few trash bags of mostly local microbrews and didn't know how many cans, but there's plenty of room on a couple of side tables to empty the bags and fill up their plastic case-sized can holders. It was way more cans than I expected and it's only 1/3 of what I have at my house, so let's just say I'm not proud of myself! I also saw a truck unloading out back, so that's probably an option if you have large volume.

As instructed on the drop off page of their website I called them to tell them of my drop off. First, I called in the morning to establish my understanding. The woman who answered confirmed my information and I was told to call when I was close, which I did. In my second call, ten minutes away, I was given directions and to go to door #7 not clearly marked). I was also informed, for the first time, that they did not take credit cards for drop offs. This meant I had to go get cash. As I arrived, one of their trucks was pulling in. He wanted to get into the bay of the garage. I asked him about drop off and he said he would call. This guy was very helpful and friendly, he entered the building, which clearly had credit card indicators on the door. If not for drop offs, for whom, as pickups would not see the door? Once I emptied my documents into the barrel, the truck driver emptied the barrel into the truck shredder. I don't think they have an on-site shredder, maybe just truck based. He took mt money, but then had to go looking for change. I only had twenties, as I was not expecting a cash exchange. So, good price, nice guy, got my shredding done, but it seemed a bit haphazard.
