I did a create-your-own with pulled pork, carmelized onions, cheese curds, and poutine sauce. The toppings were pretty quality and I liked the pulled pork. They put too much sauce on it for my taste but the flavor was good. Place has lots of seating available and it's open super late so it's not a bad choice for a late snack. Server was also super nice and prices are reasonable.

No Michigan sauce (yes, they call it Michigan sauce), no smoked meat, or any of the other add-ons that have become trendy over the years. Poutineville offers both. In addition to a menu of poutine choices: mac and cheese, General Tao, Philly steak, Hat Trick, and Stroganoff, you can also build your own, where you select different fries (regular, julienne, sweet potato), cheeses (curds, mozzarella, cheddar, and Swiss), gravies (regular, red wine, butter, maple, cream, etc), and toppings (egg, hot dog, corn dog, gyro, smoked meat, etc). I had considered the Hat Trick, which included bacon, hot dogs, and ground beef, but in the end, I stuck with the classic, but added extra cheese curds. I loved the crunchy and tender fries. However, I would have preferred a bolder sauce and melted cheese curds. IMO, the best poutines have cheese layered so there is a cheese pull, like in a good French onion soup, a mozzarella stick, or pizza. My sister's Stroganoff poutine was interesting and included thinly sliced steak, mushrooms, onions, two types of cheese, and a cream sauce. We both ordered the smaller size, but I was just not able to finish - so be sure to bring your appetite. We both liked our server, who ably tended to all the tables. On the day of our visit, there were large groups of friends and family, all happily sampling the variety of poutines.

We decided to come after a long drive since it was Halloween. When we walked in, the staff were dressed up, which was super cute. They even offered us candy I took a KitKat and my boyfriend grabbed a Coffee Crisp, lol. There was an older couple nearby having fish and chips, and it smelled amazing. We decided to go classic: a small poutine, hot dog, and hamburger with a drink. Our total came to around $35-$38, which might sound a bit high but honestly, I'm used to those prices and it was totally worth it. I loved how fresh their cheese was SQUEAKYYYY I'm pretty sure it comes straight from a local farm. The fries were perfectly crispy, the coleslaw was finely shredded, and the hot dog had that soft, fluffy bun that's just right. The hamburger had that smashed-style feel thin, juicy, with just mustard, onions, and cabbage instead of a pile of toppings. We'd 100% come back whenever we're in the area and definitely recommend checking it out. I'm so glad I got to discover this spot on the last day of October perfect way to wrap up my monthly Yelp reviews

I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo
