We were visiting out friends in France and after a day at the beach wanted to find a nice place to…read morerelax and enjoy some good food. After looking around online and on Yelp, we decided on La Maison des Pecheurs.
La Maison des Pecheurs is located in a beautiful area right on the harbour and has a very nice outdoor patio area. It looked like we made a fantastic choice so we ventured and were seated on the patio. Our party consisted of 5 adults and 3 children, and we were all very hungry! When the waiter showed up, he started to take drink orders but after taking only 1 or 2 he disappeared. After awhile he showed up with a drink for our friends and went to walk away until we stopped him and asked if we could order drinks too. This continued throughout our dinner and the waiter would often disappear for long periods of time. He would often only take a few orders at a time as well and just walk away. We ordered for the kids food first while we still looked and decided. La Maison des Pecheurs offers mostly seafood, like most in that area, but also has a few other options like steak and duck. Our friends ordred, and the waiter walked off again. He finally came back and my wife wanted to order the Dorado but the waiter said they were out of it. She then asked about a combo platter and the waiter recommended it highly. It was supposed to have Dorado as well so my wife asked what would be substituted and the waiter then said it was ok and could provide the Dorado if she ordered the platter...so now the suddenly were not out? When it was my time to order I asked for the Duck, which is one of my favorites. The waiter told me that my wife ordered enough for two and I should share with her. I explained that I did not want that but that our friends were all going to share some with her as well and that I really wanted the Duck. He said ok and walked away. Our food came out at random times since he took orders randomly...and then it was down to me with no food. I asked about my Duck again and again was told my wife's food was enough. I again told the waiter to please put my order in and that I did not want the seafood but that everyone else would eat it. After another long wait, the waiter came back and I asked again. This time he informed me he never put my order in because he thought I would eat with my wife. This was after telling him several times. He said he could put it in now but I cancelled since everyone else was done eating. He was often very short with us and quite rude.
This really could have been a great experience. The setting is beautiful, and everyone else enjoyed their food. Not the best food we had in France but everyone said it was good. Unfortunately, the waiter and overall service ruined our dinner experience and evening. I can appreciate them not wanting to waste food or make recommendations, but it went too far. And in the end, my wife and our friends finished the platter she ordered so nothing was wasted if that was his case. I was very disappointed, not to mention hungry when I left. Hopefully they can take more time to make sure the customer is happy and provide better more consistent service.
