So far, the overall best food we've had in France. I started with the goat cheese salad which had about a 2 1/2 inch diameter of creamy goat cheese topped with a crunchy exterior and a bread bottom. I don't know if that's how it's typically served in France, but it was delicious. The endive, argula and tomatoes balanced it perfectly. Husband had the escargot with sausage and he pronounced it scrumptious. No, I did not take a bite! For my entree I had the French onion soup which I've been anticipating since arriving to France a week ago. It was worth the wait. It was hot and cozy and the broth was heavenly. Husband had the scallops and mushrooms. We shared a strawberry pastry for dessert, even though we were stuffed to the max. Overeating in France is easy to do. Finally! On our very last night a really good restaurant in Bordeaux!! On our last night. We just strolled around our Uber drop in an area we had explored before with mediocre results and voila! We saw Brasserie le Noailles as we drove by - looked warm, happy and busy but not too busy. Walked back, liked the menu and walked in. The ambience was great, smiles, a multilingual buzz of people enjoying themselves. Just an amazing experience - the wine was good (of course), our entrees (veal liver) were delish and the chocolate mousse and the ice cream scoops were excellent. Would we go back? Poor food, poor service, ambiance; too crowded. I asked for the best wine of Bordeaux, and I was brought the worse. It was just "good" when I checked with vivino. And much more expensive than equivalent restaurants in Paris. I don't recommend it. The only good thing was the location. read more

Just another tourist trap. We made reservations for four of us based on Yelp "local favorites " No locals and doubtfully anybody's favorite. Duck was "ok" chicken fine but very strong mustard flavor. Oysters were good but what can you do to mess them up? The big issue was with the filet mignon. The waiter asked how I would like it cooked. I replied medium to medium rare. He said which is it? Medium I replied. It came well done almost inedible. I sent it back and the waiter agreed that it was improperly cooked. He then brought back one that was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. The waiter offered to get me a third steak but really, I didn't want to go through that nor put my tablemates through it. There are so many dining options here and I strongly suggest that you skip this one. read more

It was one of the best dinners in our 23 days of eating in France. The waiter was the most professional server, not throwing things at us like most others. His wine recommendation was excellent. The Sole was well liked and I had scallops St. Jacques which came in a wonderful sauce. Can't recomend this place highly enough though it certainly is hard to pronounce. read more

Before the meal came out the waiter gave us steak knives, even that knife couldn't cut the tough ( steak was medium rare, how I usually like it) chewy, no flavor steak. Love this place. Simple, classic French bistro. My staple bavette et frites is always great, service is impeccable, and this is a place that redefines 'fast food'. Every time I visit Bordeaux (a few times a year) this is my first stop for my jet lagged self, and never disappoints. I feel like I have barely placed my order before olives, bread and water arrive, with the steak close behind. Quintessentially French and all that you would expect from a Brasserie. The clientele are 95% French locals when we visited on this packed Sunday evening, in contrast to around the corner on the main square where everyone was a tourist. Prices here were also more reasonable than on the square where Cote de boeuf was €75 for two vs. here at Le Noailles where the price was €56 for two. Le Noailles menu and specials are all classics and regional specialities such as oysters, sauce bordelaise etc. Both traditional and innovative they served a tasty sliced terrine of pork stomach (my partners dish) and a crab and avocado terrine accompanied by lime sorbet! The Cote de boeuf was cooked to perfection although in general I don't believe you can beat Italian meat for flavour this was good. Both the service and the wine pairings were impeccable. Will without doubt be back on my next visit to Bordeaux. read more

No salad for you! "No salad for you": We have been to Le Noailles several times. However, Oct 4, 21:00, we sit on a table to order a salad and wine but got thrown out of this restaurant. The waiter took the menu away and said "out. You cannot come here and order only a salad ". Needless to say how disappointed we were, especially because we liked this restaurant. Traveled to many countries and seen a lot of things. But it's the fist time we were denied service for wanting to eat salad. --- Nous sommes allés plusieurs fois au Noailles. Cependant, le 4 octobre à 21h00, nous nous asseyons sur une table pour commander une salade et du vin, mais nous avons été expulsés de ce restaurant. Le serveur a emporté le menu et a dit " dehors. Vous ne pouvez pas venir ici et ne commander qu'une salade ". Inutile de dire à quel point nous avons été déçus, surtout parce que nous avons aimé ce restaurant. Quaint restaurant located near the Place de la comedie. Ordered the onion soup, seared duck and cod. soup was good- typical french cuisine. However, I will not say I was impressed with the duck breast nor cod. Duck portions are really fit for less than one person and the cod was surrounded by unsightly sides. I passed on dessert. This brasserie which has been in operation since 1932 was recommended to us by Daniel, the proprietor of Le Petit Hotel LeBoutierre as one of his favorite local hang outs. And it must be a favorite for many Bordelaise dwellers as the place was packed with people waiting on a weekday evening minutes before closing at 10:30pm. It's a bustling joint with palm trees, gregarious staff, and a very local French menu. We ordered a bottle of wine, salads, veal, pomme frites, and some items that we'd never heard of before. Loved the atmosphere, service, and food. It's centrally located at 12 Allees de Tourny, close to the Grande Theatre, Visitor's Center, and many other interesting sites. read more

Good food is a French birth right and Le Noailles seem to be impervious to trends and master all the French classics. From a nostalgic herring salad and sole meunière to tournedos façon Rossini - Refinement mixes with a no-nonsense brasserie buzz in a setting that comes straight from the 'belle époque'. The amiable garçons in immaculate black gilets and starched white shirts and the early 1900s décor make you feel like being in a tradional Paris brasserie - without the snooty service. Prepare to get up-close-and-personal with your neighbouring tables: as the portions are 'généreux', the seating is not. (oh, don't miss out on the dessert plate: the pâtisserie, and especially the tarte au poire is exceptionally good.) read more

I got the chicken dish from here and it was delicious! The chicken was was really juicy, the sauce that came with it was very creamy and flavorful, and the potatoes were the perfect amount of crispy! The wine was also delicious and reasonably priced, the waiter was really helpful in picking out a bottle that we would like and would go well with our meal. read more

My wife and I dined here on a recent Friday night. We had made a reservation after walking by the previous afternoon. We were looking forward to an elegant French dinner for our last night in Bordeaux. We both ordered the Filet Mignon, hers medium rare with pommes frites, mine medium with mashed potatoes. Both came with mashed potatoes and the waiter even commented on the error as he served it, but made no effort to correct it, with a dismissive attitude. Half-way through our meal we realized we had each other's filets, which really didn't matter because both were inedible anyway - fatty and tough. Additionally, we ordered a $45 bottle of red wine. The waiter, who clearly had been there awhile, had apparently never been showed how to serve wine - In France??? Generally speaking, you don't just pop the cook and rest the neck of the bottle on the rim of the glass, fill it up and walk away. In short, Le Noailles looked good from afar, but it it was far from good. read more

Pretty good! We started with oysters and white wine, the oysters were very fresh one was still filtering. For mains my wife had the sausage which turned out to be unlike most sausages in that it was loosely stuffed with chopped pork and not heavily cooked. I had the duck breast with pepper sauce which was quite good. For desert we got the fig tart which had a little walnut on top for crunch. The win for the meal was the potato cheese combination that was like good cheese grits. I would go back for a meat and potatoes meal. None of the food was inspirational but it was all solid although the price was a little steep. read more

Noailles was recommended to us by our Bordeaux local tour guide. She said Noailles is one of the oldest restaurants in town and the food is very good. She was right. My family went for dinner tonight. I ordered fried duck liver with fruit. It was amazingly delicious. I have been ordering foie gras and duck liver everyday during my trip in France. Noailles' duck liver was the best! It was so tender and matched perfectly with the cooked fresh fruit. We also ordered red wine, steak, expressing and sample desert plate. Everything was delicious! The waiter was very polite and efficient. Surprisingly, the price was very affordable. We decided to go back for lunch tomorrow before we leave Bordeaux. Great food steps from our hotel. We were able to be seated immediately at 9pm. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.
