I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars on on this one, as our fish and 'cochon' were both tasty, but neither was quite as amazing as we might have hoped, but the ambiance of the place is very special, and definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something a little different than your typical village eatery. Not sure if they're open in the winter, but when we were there, it was necessary to make reservations at least a day or two in advance. Will go again if we're in the area.

The place was fairly empty on arrival, but we know how quickly that can change, and how the French very much prefer reservations. The hostess was lovely, and gave us a choice of several little tables in a small cavern in the back. Charming. And sure enough, by the time our food arrived, all the inhabitants of the village of Barjac had arrived as well. The place was packed! For good reason. I had the Ardechoise pizza, which was generous (read: also the next day's lunch) and very tasty featuring the local cuisine. Carol had the salad with chevre chaud. Also generous and well seasoned. Along with a pichet of vin rouge, and we were out the door for around 30 euros, and very happy.
