Set on Shirland road near the junction with Elgin Avenue, Le Petit Venice may not be the most glamerous of establishments, but their lattes are really nice, with change out of £2. They also offer Portugese soft drinks that you would not find in other sandwich bars/coofe shops and cafes in the area. The food here is also very reasonably priced, with a full English coming in at £4. They also do nice fresh baguettes. I tend to come here more when the weather is sunny, as there is seating outside, and it is south facing. It is nice to see an independent sandwich shop survive, with such good value in an area where retail space is rented at a premium. Now that it has reopened, I plan to spend plenty of sunny days enjoying a latte here!

Food is pretty good, though this venue is best left to hurried work meetings, afternoon tea or coffee or midday snacks. Also check with the person at the till for their daily specials. On first impression as very disappointed with the cleanliness and hygiene of the place. Opening the door the handle was very sticky. Being disabled I had my wheelchair. The space was very tight and no offer of assistance to find a table, there were a couple of customers but the staff decided to huddle for a conversation while I struggled to stand and order. There was limited choice of food compared to other locations. The tables were also sticky and not wiped down. I asked to use the toilet to wash my hands and the soap dispenser did not work which seems to be ongoing as someone has written a note to the staff on the hand dryer, the floor was soaked. The customer seating area and floors were disgusting. Not one table was cleaned or wiped down while we were there over 40 minutes. I enjoyed the mocha but my husband choose not to eat and just have a coffee. The croque Monsieur was dry and we not up to the usual quality or standard. I will not be coming back to this Paul again. The standards and quality have dropped, I hope it is not the same for other Paul locations.

Customers like myself come to Vesuvio for the friendly service, the atmosphere, and the coffee. It's not gourmet coffee, mind you, but it's fine. The area where Vesuvio falls short is with its food. It's not brilliant to be honest, but it is pretty fairly priced. The English breakfast is OK, as are the pastries.
