'When in Rome...' is a good rule of thumb, so in Montpellier one should eat fish!
Having read "36 Hours in Montpellier" (NY Times, Aug.12,2012) in preparation, we had to find La Morue, down the smallest streets in the old part of the city. (the sign reads,'La Morue' The Cod) but they could be wrong, of course :-)
Our experience was set-up for a wonderful time ...new to south of France...trying to speak a stammering, stream of consciousness style of French...rented bikes...warm day and evening...somehow rode uphill, through the town, guessed at the turn of Rue Foch...and arrived right at this picture-book setting...famished.
Seated next to a lively group of student-age French women, and two just graduated young men who were very welcoming and helpful, we ate, drank, and visited thru, for us, a perfect meal in a perfect setting. Our lousy French was welcomed, the price was not so bad, the wine was great, and we didn't get killed riding home (every direction is downhill from here).
We love the south of France! This was the first of some wonderful meals over two weeks in France, but our most memorable. read more
